Edited by: Drauqhk Shathet on 14/11/2006 01:07:11 The words that follow are my own and not in any way a reflection of NMTZ, and in fact are in direct contravention of NMTZ policies regarding posting on GalNet. Despite that, I feel that I must post.
To the pilots of Trinity Nova, I have no qualms with you taking a contract, and from the sound of it a fair lucrative one, against the NMTZ alliance. From all accounts you are a corp that deserves respect and that you honor your contracts to the best of your collective ability. That is not to say that you are honorable, or dishonorable for that matter. Simply that you are effective tools.
I see that many of my kin have spoken ill of you and your choice to be nothing more than a tool for someone else's bidding, but I harbor no such feeling and I decry the words of others in so denigrating you. Please forgive them for I suspect that they, as I, wish that everyone be the master of their own soul and destiny and I would think that a great deal of their anger stems from the perception that our esteemed comrades of TNT have chosen to forsake that for mere ISK.
I like to believe that my advanced age and the hard years I spent dirtside give me a bit of insight though. You all seem to be trying to justify that you took this contract out of no other consideration than the promised pay and no political motivation whatsoever. Unfortunately, every action in our ever more crowded bit of galaxy has political repercussions, and while you may not have intended political ramifications, there they are.
So I would counsel do not run from the political fallout but rather embrace it. Relinquish publicly that you ever had or ever intend to have any say over your own direction. Put to rest once and for all that you are anything other than the powerful and effective tool you so proudly strive to be. Let it be known that for the right price anything is possible.
As for myself however, while I admit that I admire in a sense your commitment to purpose, I must follow a different path. Though I might lose everything, I must stay true to what I feel is right.
I wish you well in the prosecution of your contract, and should you catch me; No quarter asked or given.

Edited by: shinmai on 14/11/2006 01:34:17 A rebuttal to Drauqhk's editorial by a fellow Molden Heath Matari citizen...
Drauqhk, I believe your 'advanced age', and 'hard years... spent dirtside' have addled your mind. How can you state that a corporation deserves respect and in the very next sentence state they are neither honorable, nor dishonorable. How can you respect something that is not honorable? Would you respect an Amarri slaver? NEVER I say! No matter how well they do their dispicable work.
You say that you can't agree with what TNT is doing. You must not have much conviction in your own goals if you would still respect a corporation that goes against your ethical beliefs. Exactly what is it in TNT that you believe deserves the respect of the fellow inhabitants of Molden Heath? That they would take up arms and destabalize a region without regard to the enhabitants? Why would you admire TNT's commitment to purpose and at the same time disagree with their actions? Just because someone has an iron will and purpose in life doesn't make them a roll model. Would you recommend to your children to follow the suicide blood cults because they are dedicated to what they do? Although an allegory to be sure you are essentially saying the same thing, "I really respect these guys" as they shoot your pod out from under you. A warped world that you live in Draughk.
Many of us have spoken ill of TNT for the resultant fallout of their actions against neutral parties, and not because they took ISK to fulfill a contract. There are mercenaries, and then there are mercenaries. And TNT has proven themselves to be the worst of the bunch as they have no regard for those that do not want to participate either directly or indirectly in their actions.
Out of all that you wrote there is one area I must agree with you. TNT must acknowledge the political fallout of their actions. They cannot say this is the result of their employer's actions, and if it hadn't been them taking the contract it would have been someone else. It was TNT's decision to take the contract, and the persecution of this war, with all its ugly side affects is 100% their own doing.

For every action there is an equal and opposed reaction.
Consider that while you generously sprinkle blame on everyone except yourself. We did not start this conflict. We never do; we just help bringing them to a close.
I am not sure how going straight for the target and even making sure to engage only valid targets out of mixed gangs makes us ôthe worst of the bunchö. The arrogance displayed on these forums is frankly astonishing. It seems that you are so full of yourselves that you actually believe taking a contract against NMTZ has much wider consequences for æinnocent bystandersÆ than would engaging any other alliance your size. This simply is not so.
It seems to me your sense of self importance has been so bloated you left any semblance of realistic assessment behind long ago.
It is of course gratifying for us to hear that our corporation has been successful enough to make an impact. But it would be sheer arrogance on our behalf to take credit for all that we have been credited with one these forums.

Exactly! Did you read my original post? If you had I would assume you would have understood the implication of your actions that you are failing to take responsibility for.

OK... As a neutral party to this wardec please tell me exactly what I did to your employer or your corporation in order to be culpable, and as a result, albiet indirectly, suffer loss?
Originally by: Epictetus We did not start this conflict. We never do; we just help bringing them to a close.
This does not limit your responsibility for the collateral damage your corporation has done to those neutral parties within the war zone.

I agree that for direct action TNT has been very discrete, and only attacking valid targets. But the point of my posts are the indirect consequencies of your actions.

Arrogance? How is expressing our displeasure in having our region's security destabalized, loosing capital assets to pirates, and loosing our freedom of movement in any way arrogant? Let me layout in detail the consequences third parties have indirectly suffered due to your choice to accept a contract wardec'ing NMTZ. A while back Molden Heath was a pretty wild place, inhabited by numerous pirate corporations. A number of corporations, and alliances have done an amazing job cleaning those pirates out and generally increasing the security of the region. Because NMTZ is now engaged in a war with you they are otherwise engaged and no longer patrolling as agressively as they once were. As a result we have had an increase in pirate corporation activity within the region. This increase in pirate activity began within 24 hours of your announced wardec. Amazing isn't it? But it's the truth.

Now that's arrogance. shin out...

It's not a case of not taking responsibility it's a case of not caring if it's my fault or not. I fight for money. It's what I do, It's what I am.
You want to worry about the fall out...TECOR shrugs his shoulders....worry about it, I however will count my isk.
I don't care, I really really don't care. I thought you would have got that by know. Polotics is the reason I am hired against you...so what...polotics will be left behind when it is finished....so what...Polotics,Polotics blah! blah! blah!
It's good for one thing, it gets me contracts.
Now before I go, is everyone clear on the fact that I don't care?

I wonder, Shinmai, what assets you have personally lost and are considering collateral damage? Or, is this another instance where the sky is supposed to be falling?
I would suggest that you, and any other pilot that feels unable to defend themselves from pirates, move to the safe confines of empire space until this nasty business blows over. The rain will make you wet afterall, but no one is forcing you to stand there in it.

You will make nothing of the sort. Once your gone with your small insignificant bundle of ISK, NMTZ will still be in Molden Heath bringing life and security to this volatile Minmatar region.
Epictetus, did you learn nothing in your days with Paratwa? You have become an insignicant, ISK focussed peon, such a waste...

I learned many things with the Paratwa; but i have learnt much more since i tore myself free of that demented priest and his teachings. How i let myself be lulled into that sense of self grandeur i will never quite understand. Our skills where average at best, but we let ourselves believe there was noone better. Embarassing really... Perhaps things have gotten better since those days, but i will certainly never be back to find out.
In the grand scheme of things i am certainly an insignificant peon, what you fail to recognise is that the same holds true for you. At least i get some ISK for my efforts.
And dont go talking about waste Aodha, at least Chaw and some of the others are still fighting for their old beliefs. No matter how misguided i believe they are i can respect that. You on the other hand left the paratwa behind even before i did. Your judgement is coming from way up the ledgers and certainly means nothing to me.

As you know nothing of the workings of the Sani Sabik and Blood Raiders, in your position, that opinion really doesn't hold.

I went to the front lines to battle against our most dangerous enemies. The Blood Raiders were the most obvious choice to join with in this cause as my own people would not make the call. Since then they have shown me another way of life, a life of rich delights and provided a great platform to attack the Empire.
To become a puppet to your master, ISK, dissapoints me greatly as you once showed a lot of promise as a warrior of free mind and spirit. Still, my opinion doesn't matter to you does it anymore...go speak with your master, he awaits you.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

Legally Retained
The fact that a contract was signed makes it a legal contract, but the actions entered into, perhaps are not. A contract does not make for justification of an action.
IMHO, perhaps not an -EM- View, but i felt worth mentioning

All actions undertaken by Trinity Nova pilots are fully within the remit of our Concord sanctioned war.
We have no need to justify our actions beyond the original statement that we are employed by our client and will do our best to meet the terms of our employment.
Thus we are legally retained and our actions are within the law.

For the record, as far as I as a member of the NMTZ diplomatic team am aware, there is no reason to suspect TNT having committed illegal actions inside this contract. They act completely inside the CONCORD saction of pilot wars. The issue is one of ethics, not of legalities.
