As I understand it Torps are for raw damage and Cruise is for accuracy.
In a raven for Lvl 4s which is better. Skills are equal for both. Are there any secondary missle skills that effect one but not the other? At max skills which has the most DPS?
I guess I really need a missle expert to explain to me the pros, cons, and tactics for each. Thanks for any help.
P.S. I did a search and read the missle guides and i only found the same general information. I would really like numbers if any one has them. Thanks again.

up to you, some use torps some use cms, personaly ill like the cms for npcing cause its easier to deal with cruiers and battlecruiers, but against battleships its not that well.
If u want to use t2 torps or cms, there is no difference in speed, but thats realy up to you, some say cms are better, some say torps, there is no general "that is the way to go" thing about that topic.

2 of the missile precision skills do not affect torpedoes as torps are not considered to be guided missiles (same skills also do not affect rockets). Both are good for level 4 missions so it's up to personal preference. I personaly use cruise missiles bcos that leaves me slightly more powergrid to change some fitting mods to damage mods. On easier missions you can even squeeze 5x BCU II in lows (I use cap injector fueled tank, no faction stuff as I'm not that ritch).

Torps are not affected by guided missile projection. Cruise missile are better against cruiser-size ships, but on the other hand a good target painter is doing almost the same job for torps. -- All my postings reflects just my personal opinion and my lacking knowledge of proper english.

I use cruise as for most level 4s you spend more time killing swarms of frigates and cruisers than killing battleships.
I do know people who use mixed cruise/torp or pure torp setups though and it all seems to work.

Are CM's really that bad at dealing with BS's? The way people talk about CM's and BS's you'd almost think they did next to nothing to them.

it's very simple. Get a quickfit and put your skills in. U will see the difference between damage output. Torps do 30% more damage (could be a bit wrong)

Depends on what your doing, when I was in 0.0 doing some belt ratting there were some of the BS spawns I absolutely could NOT break the tank on using pure CMs. I HAD to use at least a few torps, and it went a great deal faster fitting pure torps and leaving the drones to deal with the smaller ships.
I'm not quite sure how this works out with L4 missions as I never really got around to running any myself. In the end though with a painter even torps can hit friggates etc (they just dont do much and it's a huge waste of money really, but then so are cruise missiles in that case, they just do abit more damage)

Edited by: Riho on 14/11/2006 11:02:14 useing torps to do lvl4s... and they are ftw :)
takes down BSs fast :) cruise is good for cruisers... but lotss of missions have BC now and torps can rip em in 2 volleys... and in some missions i can 1 volley cruisers :)
not going to use cruise for missions ever :P only if i decide to fly caldari for pvp i might concider it
EDIT: and for the fitting... i have no probs what so ever :) 6 arbalest launchers, 1x heavy dim nos, 1x large smartbomb large t2 shield boost, named amp, 4x t2 resists 3x pdu t2, 2x BCU t2
alltho i have changed the amp and booster for some cheaper sort of faction gear :)

I am just wondering, would your smartbomb destroy your own torp? Or is it you stop firing torp before activate the smartbomb? It seems there are quite a few people use smartbomb will missiles.

Well, if you're worried about accuracy you could always go for 'Javelin' torpedoes. But they are really expensive.
That really is my concern about these torps, the cost a lot of your precious ISK.
I was wondering, should you wanna use missiles in PvP.. would you guys go for Torps or cruise missiles?... and why?

In pvp, depends who you are goin for. if you are trying to take on a BS at close range, use torps. If you are trying to take on anything else, or at a little more range, use cruise. Depends which you are more afraid of... (well or use t2 torps, but they aren't around much longer in the current state)

In PVP, only time you could viably fir Cruise is if your olly gonna be ganking cruisers and below. Fight a competant BS and it wil BBQ you pretty much garenteed. Torps on the other hand shread BS and as they stand now, Javelin torps do a fair abount of damage on cruisers, even HACs. ----- Move along, nothing to see here... |

You misspelled Harley's name nitwit, I'm gonna tell him. And stay tuned for a comprehensive side by side comparison of cruise/torps against various sig radius's (radiusi?) and with varying levels of skill. Because I love you.

It's radii, but you didn't hear that from me.
Anywho...with Kali coming out soon, will torps still be worth it? I've seen a few opinions already, but I'm just trying to garner a few more before I start skilling up (since whichever one I pick is the one I'm going to specialize in for T2 launchers/ammo).

Those were my thoughts exactly, but should you train all the skills which improve Cruise missiles and Torps, and you look at T2 missiles/javalin torps, the damage againts BSs isn't that much difference. Plus Javalin torps are VERY expensive.
But if you would Outfit a Typhoon, would you still fit torps over cruises (torps eat away your pwrgrid and CPU, leaving a lot less to tank)?

Heh, nevermind. It can get pretty complicated and varied when you start throwing in target's various velocity levels and the skills that modify the missiles based on that, like Missile Projection and Target Navigation Prediction. I plugged in a lot of stats into Excel based on a baseline of 0 velocity, but the data does no good since most things are moving. The torps did do a hair more damage all across the sig radius board (25-500) when the target was sitting still. Just use quickfit and play with the stats tab info to compare them.

Well tbh, I was a bit off to, I just found out that those high damage (fury) cruise missiles ruin your cap regeneration.. so they really arent an option. in that case those torps start to do quite some more damage.
But still the question remains, is it worth it to sacrifice a lot of your 'tank' (typhoon in this case) to fit those siege launchers?
