The problem is that the game design rewards rock-paper-scissor style player, rather than in space adaptation.
You brought the wrong ship? You lose (if you didn't Dscan, see the fight was probably a fit that your fit would lose to, and then just not try).
Station dock games where people hang around attack someone, who docks up, and then keep waiting around, boring both them and the intended victim. Hard counters of gank vs tank. Kite loses to brawl automatically close range, and brawl loses to kite automatically long range.
If there was a way for brawl fit ships to get into range to fight a kiter, such that both sides went right down to the wire for hull hp before one or the other exploded, then you could progress to fighting linked players in the same way.
Links simply make the hard counter rock-paper-scissor style of gameplay, which EVE has, that much harder counter.
There is no slippery slope in EVE, only cliffs. They'd have to rethink how they design the game's system.
I personally would like to be able to MWD a brawl boat into a kiter to stand a chance of beating them, for a real fight, rather than hit Dscan and warp off from everything but a select few possible engagements I can win or ruthlessly slaughter.
At 5 drones of T2, the Tristan is nearly as powerful as the Algos, with a cheaper price tag, better maneuverability and speed, and smaller sig radius to avoid the lazy carebearish T3 station blapping -10s who have no life. Pick tristan for FW.

Hell dude if you dont want to go and bring a friend with a commandship or a t3 BUY A FANCY point... Republic fleet ones reach out to almost 30 if memory serves... Hell bring a friend with probes and murderboat their fancy links ship...
Unless you've done it yourself, don't tell others this works. AFK alt linkboats use cap stable high speed to avoid being scanned down.
