While the bounty pics were functioning as usual, instead of the various adds I was getting what looked a bit like a test signal, as well as this image:
Anyone know whats happening here ?

Obtain the skill mechanic at level 5.
Board some sort of Industrial..
Collect 5k of Consumer Electronics.
Fit a Remote Repairer.
Fly to the billboard and remote repair it. You will notice the Consumer Electronics disappearing from your hold. Once they are all gone, the Billboard will work again.

Most hilarious thing I've ever seen in EVE was a noob actually get shot and destroyed by a billboard.
In EVE, you don't f*ck with the advertising.
It's hard to do now, since sentry guns are so powerful and CONCORD responds so fast, but them things is armed.

All I ever see on the billboards it those three images along with the bounty posters. None of the usual adds.

The "Test Signal" looks like the default skin of the billboard, scaled to an inappropriate size. Might be your video card.
Remember Pilotwings on the Super NES? When you were really high above the ground, the little white dome things would show their texture at 100% scale, even though it should have been indistinguishably small, then as you got closer it would snap to its proper display parameters. I doubt EvE is using Mode 7 scaling, but it could be a similar phenomenon.

Could be, but why has it only started recently ?
And why is it randomly switching between the 3 images when I'm not moving the camera ?
The face only showed up today.
I also saw what appears to be a bounty pic that didn't load. Though I'm going to assume that if I had stayed in system long enough that the pic would of loaded, as every other bounty pic there has loaded.

The billboards seem to use a seperate server that can be used to put arbitrary data on the billboards (always one image and scrolling text below it).
If you see an exclamation mark, its the same thing as if you see an exclamation mark on these forums - the two systems seem to draw from the same database, the character portrait just hasnt been rendered yet.
For the "Head" picture: It seems the letters below it were the intended content - "Third Capsuleer Tournament Announced".

I haven't looked at billboards closely recently, but I am noticing I don't see many of the old adverts, oh and that ghostly blue face thing has been around for a looooong time.

That face is definately Oveur - the character, not the person - in a very blurred version. Just search for him and put up a big version next to the billboard and you'll see I'm right... Now it's not enough for him to have an ego the size of a planet - he's gotta put his face on the billboards

You need to give it a good whack, like your tv. Just shoot it one time with a projectile or missle, and you will see the light.

I realy feel like those billboards are a wasted opportunity. They just tell me about some crazed Eve player who has blown a lot of people up, and what I would receive if I could amass an army of two thousand to go after him. Not a lot of help.
Wouldn't it be cool, if they told you how many people were in the immediate vicinty on the OTHER side of the gate you are approaching?
Put home addresses in loss and killmails. Maybe then the community will find a way to control themselves a bit better. |
