K, for all the muppets here;
- You have no idea how they are going to adress this 'problem' (which it is, btw). - You have not got all the data the devs have - You Do not know how they intended the game to work.
Ya'll who are empire mining nice and safe in 1.0 space should move out to lower security systems (1-2 jps from 1.0 systems, you can find 0.4 systems) and empty the belts there. The ore you remove there will have a chance of respawning in 1.0 (as ore respawns somewhere else, not in the same belt/system) giving the nubs something to mine and making everybody happy.
And if you think you're not hurting people, you're hurting the new ones. They are forced, day in day out to look at your uberhsip grazing away invulnerably at the rocks thay they should be mining. Ya can't tell a new player to go somewhere else to mine. HE should be the one that's safe, he should be mining those rocks.
Get off your high horse and wait. It's inevitable that it will happen.
wait and see.

Yes there's a respawn problem. Yes, when that is fixed you will still have the baby roid 'problem'.
Y'see, if the roids grow a certain amount each day (something that the respawn mechanism was supposed to do) and you mine them all out within 7 jumps of a station you'll still have to go out and get the roids. No amount of whining will ever fix this since this is the way it's supposed to work (according to what i've read).
<edit> silly profanity filter

Read Redu's post. Even with a fixed ore distribution system you will probably have to travel those jumps anyway
and the best part is, it makes sense too
