The recent events in the Kassigainen have drawn a lot of attention; allegation of murder, riots, Gallente insurgents - it would be disconcerting to any citizen of the state. IÆm not privy to the details û I donÆt know if those Gallente marines were on a humanitarian mission, I donÆt know if there really was a murder and I donÆt know the true cause of the riots. But I do know Kaalakiota. Kaalakiota is a corporation built on integrity. Many of the Mega-corporations invested a great deal of assets in trade with the empire, after the emperorsÆ death the commerce froze almost overnight. The resulting losses threatened to send the State into an economic depression the likeÆs of which we havenÆt seen since the exodus.
The duty of Kaalakiota leadership is to preserve the corporation so that the millions of employeeÆs under its care continue to have a job. The wage cuts and layoffs are an attempt to sa***uard the corporation by temporarily boosting profit margins enough to gain a foothold in the market. They chose to make sacrifices for the good of the whole, and if that was a mistake then it was a mistake made with honorable intent.
Although some have used this unfortunate event to paint Caldari leadership thieving tyrants, Caldari executives, particularly those of Kaalakiota and other members of the Patriot faction, are motivated by a since of duty to their employees and most lead a spartan lifestyle.
The news from Kassigainen IV is so scandalous because the Kaalakiota ethos is one of loyalty to its people. These sorts of atrocities and worse happen in corporations like Roden Ship yards and are then quietly swept under the rug without so much as a whimper of injustice. When the question of internal ôfoul playö within an organization founded in a tradition of corporate family and responsibility for itÆs members like Kaalakiota, it will come under public scrutiny because it is so uncharacteristic.
If there truly was foul play on the part of Home Guard officers at Truiisu Station then it is the result of corrupt local administrators û back water mining colonies are given quite a bit of autonomy. Neither Kaalakiota executives nor Home Guard command would have condoned the murder of an innocent; it is not in compliance with the guiding principals that have given the company itÆs focus for so long.

The motto is "all for the good of many" and not "for the good of all of our citizens," yet everyone's so surprised that people are leaving the State in droves... oddly enough it seems to be the people who get screwed over... hmm.
I wouldn't speak too soon, Grayson-haan. You'll look like a fool if something horrible really is happening. To be honest it already is: casualties have surpased 400. That's a quarter of the entire colony if I recall correctly. It's obvious that Kaalakiota cannot control the situation. The deathly silence coming out of Kassigainen is very telling. I'm guessing it means something like Kyonoke is happening, but that it's just a bit more... personal.

Edited by: Davlos on 16/11/2006 11:49:57 I hope you do realize, Grayson, that if your reasoning is accepted for such an incident like this, it will set a precedent for the rest of the mega-corporations to take advantage of such a reason to conveniently get rid of unhappy workers in order to preserve their good name and existence "for the benefit of" their other employees.
Kaalakiota should be made accountable for this. A poor attempt at apologetics. ---------------

The wage cuts and lay-offs were not the wisest courses of action û there are other ways the Kaalakiota could have handled the situation but I donÆt wish to get into a discussion on corporate management here. The executives panicked, and they made a junior mistake that someone at level shouldnÆt have made û they made the wrong decision but it was a decision with the intent to save as many employeeÆs as possible.
It has been said on this forum that Kaalakiota managers chose to cut wages to stuff their own pockets, but that is an untruth. I am not defending their mistakes, just their integrity.

Kaalakiota has always been driven by the welfare of all itÆs citizens - and if its leader had any part in the murder of an innocent man, they wonÆt hold their positions for long.

Kaalakiota has never been a beacon of integrity in it's corporate practices. Probably never will be.
Rumours abound about involvment in Gurista affairs, among other shady organizations and now their killing civilians.
The CEP needs to address this, and address it soon.

Forgive me Cain-haan, I am a soldier not an orator. I should have been clearer in what I was saying. I did not want to imply that Kaalakiota murdered an innocent man, but itÆs ok because they did it for the good of the many. I donÆt believe Kaalakiota leadership had anything to do with the murder. If there really was a murder, then itÆs more than likely the fault of the colonies manager or someone in his administration. Kaalakiota is responsible for millions of employees and hundreds of thousands of mining colonies like Truiisu Station û I doubt they ever gave it much consideration until the riots broke out.
My argument was that the decision to cut wages, the problem that cause the unhappy workers in the first place, was a decision made in what Kaalakiota thought was the best choice for the majority of itÆs employees.

Gurista have their finger in every pie, thatÆs the nature of organized crime. While for the most part Gurista infiltrations into the higher echelons are hunted down and snuffed out û sometimes they make useful tools.
If youÆve found yourself as pawn in the silent war between Kaalakiota and the Practicals or Guristas while running missions then I can understand why youÆre misinformed. ThatÆs a cut-throat world of espionage, double agents, and intrigue. You can never be sure who works for whom.

Well no, Ive only ever did agent work for the Navy, Hyasyoda and Ishukone, and it's respective subsidiaries.
To be quite honest. Practicals are not people I trust. Surely you can see the logic behind that?

Grayson-haan, from everything you've said above I see that you are quite the optimist. I really wish you were not as it is a dangerous way to think, but it makes your position a little more clear at least. I'm glad you believe we Guristas have services that are of some use to you, rather than immediately labeling us as scum.

The Gurista are great for the State!
It is because of the Gurista that the Caldari Navy is at the operational levels that it is at. The Caldari Navy could crush the Gurista Fleet at will, but they are allowed to exist because they present a more believable threat than the spineless Federation.
As for lay-offs and wage cuts, Caldari is big business. Profits drive the megacorps! As long as the workers will put up with the conditions, and stock holders are happy to the point it drives up the value of the stocks, you will not see the panel become involved.
The best thing here is for the Caldari to remember that they are free to work wherever they want, under the best conditions that they can negotiate a contract for. If these workers in Kassigainen do not like the conditions, then they can quit, they can move, they can bargin with other companies for a better life. That is your right as a citizen of the State, and about the only one you are given.
As for the Gurista, continue to be good junk yard dogs, barking from the fences and scaring the people of the state into wanting more Ravens and Scorpions on the frontlines.
It's good for business.

I put them in classifications based on there actions and bussiness practices, rather then any foreign political scientists opinions on where to classify them.
As far as I know, the official classifications are only correct in reference to Ishukone. The other megacorporations are to be switched between practical/patriot, or a 4th category which I like to call realist.
We can debate that later, though. The point is Kaalakiota is bad. My own small dealings with them, through agents, attempts to put me in leagues with Amarr Slave Traders, and Mordus Legion.
If that isnt practical behavior, I do not know where to put them.

Assuming they are allowed to leave and look for new work. One word from Kaalakiota and they could be branded for life and denied work from any company or megacorporation.
Even then, employees for Kaalakiota arent even considered humans to them, they are nothing but assets to be traded, bought, and thrown away at the will of the CEO.
Kaalakiota as well as CBD, Nugoeihuvi need to make amends for their continued lack of respect for human rights, in this regard.
I could go internationaly and bring forth accusations against Quafe, Roden Shipyards, Urban Management, Freedom Extension, and of course various Amarr and Khanid Corporations. Just to not sound too biased here.

You have your beliefs, I have mine. I have personally worked for the mega corps, as well as serving in the Caldari Navy. Anyone who tells you Caldari operates on something other than profit and glory is selling you something you shouldn't be buying.
While I will admit many poor souls become trapped because they do not have the means or extremes to move on, and the "Branding" as you call it, more like a poor business reference in my opinion, tends to hurt people from becoming re-employed, I do not debate this. It is those who overcome that will become great.
I also hold no ill will to those who flee to the north to the Gurista, or to mercenary teams for a better future. It's a business decision, and the state understands. Many will call this understanding "not caring", I call it "having your priorities straight"

A happy work force is a productive work force. Caldari corporations understand this as they exist for the long haul.
Unlike the genocidal xenophobic Gallente who enshrine short term goals in thier popularity contests.
As for the treatment of the workers by Kaalakiota in Kassigainen I simply do not believe this, Kaalakiota has always treated me well, they have never shortchanged me on my contracts with them and have always upheld their part in full even to paying excellent bonus's.
That the complaints about events in Kassigainen have been mostly made by Gallente citizens this is no surprise as the Gallente labour under a massive faceless bureaucracy who are answerable to no one. While the executive and lower level offers of the Kaalakiota Corporation can all be required to explain their actions.
The Caldari State has the lowest population of all the empires yet the most powerful economy this stength comes from the support of the Caldari people. A Caldari Corp that looses the support of the Caldari people withers and dies.
The state places its faith in the people of the Caldari State and in return the people place their faith in the State, that the faithless Gallente do not understand this simple contract is of no surprise.

For the record, Kaalakiota have always been enemies of the Guristas, at least my numerous missions on behalf of KK against them has proven.
Kaalakiota are not without fault, but they are a cornerstone upon which The State has been built, and I for one, am in their debt. No matter what happens in regards to this unfortunate chain of events, I have no doubt Kaalakiota will continue to be one of the leading forces within The Caldari State.
