So whats the easiest way to go about doing this, ship type, mods, etc. This is mainly for killing a belt ganking recon so whatever it would take to scramble it and kill it at the same time.

Edited by: Gindar on 16/11/2006 05:04:56 recon is a very dangerous ship if you are not set up right. spotting one on scanner is similar to spotting a cynosural field on overview.
recons main defense is ewar, however knowing the specific ship type will aid you greatly in how you should dock to refit your ship.
if you are solo, fit the following defenses: -arazu/lachesis: tech2 sensor boosters and mwd -rook/falcon: sensor backup arrays -rapier/huginn: sensor damps and long range guns -curse/pilgrim: *use extreme caution when approaching this ship* cap injectors, tech2 sensor boosters, tracking enchancers. ideally you are in a passive tanked ferox or raven with fof missiles. preferably tech2.
their main offense is typically drones, sometimes with rails, missiles, and artillery. equip 2x large smartbombs and 2x remote sensor dampeners.
if possible, jam them within scramble range. however, use extreme caution with the amarr and caldari types when doing this, as they can control your targetting. if you can't afford this your best bet will be the aforementioned FOF missiles. Well recons are tough to jam with their big sensor strengths. They are usually armed to the teeth with EW. I can only speak from experiance from the Gal recons, but if you can get under their damp range and lay some nice damage on them, they pop nicely. ________________________

drones, sensor boosters and EW (dampeners, nos, ECM) is good counter measures... they don't all work against all Recons though...

Edited by: Polibius on 16/11/2006 13:45:03 I think i might be missing something, as i've been told if i'm ratting in a battleship and a recon uncloaks it shouldn't be able to break my tank. Also if I start firing on it, wo'nt it just warp away?
Also, i'm ASKING what ships to fly, I need to konw the most effective way to take care of a recon.
Thanks for the help so far

Depends what Recon also.
If i uncloak in a Pilgrim then i can nos like hell. But i`ve engaged a Dominix that had 3 Heavy nos and after 3 minutes i was at 10% armor, Domi in 30% structure and his nos deactivated my scrambler that takes 4 cap to activate once and he got away..
Generally i don`t like to engage Dominix because they are flexible and can field anything.
But people hunting in Recons are experienced (most of them), so take it as a sign they are confident to kill u meaning for u they are a huge threat (sp).
Recons also sport a lot of EW. Gallente Recon with 4 dampeners can knock a standard BS to 5km lock range with a HIGH locktime.
This is my lazy attempt to make an uber-signature, please go away!

It really depends on the recon ship in question.
Fow example, a pilgrim (very popular for killing solo bs with), you'd have to use either a passive shieldtank or a bunch of heavy nosses and make sure to be able to stay in 20km range.
A falcon on the other hand will jam you permanently so then you'd need drones and a good tank and maybe eccm to force a gap into its jamming cycles. But you dont need to worry about having nosses or being nossed much. Staying at range may help too.
An Arazu is another game again, since it scrambles at long range and will dampen or use ecm. You need to get in close again and try to get lock to nos him or kill him. There's a fair chance however that he'll damped you hard enough that a combination with a web will leave you unable to lock, not to mention being faster then you, so drones help alot here too.
Then there's the rapier, less damage output but you can kiss any chance of getting close goodbye. If he fits a faction scrambler you wont be able to nos, but he hasn't got that good of a chance to stop you from locking him either, so have guns and drones at least.

K ill just expand a bit.
Recons shouldnt be able to break a BS's tank in the short term. And it'll take a very short time for a BS to destroy a recon. However chances are the recon wont engage a BS.
A cloaked recon ship (force recon) may get uncloaked by the roids, which is a good way to catch it off guard. It may not be at its best range. As a poster up the top said, each recon ships has its stengths, and you should protect yourself in that form. Eg - if its a rook, use eccm.
Drones are very useful - Always keep combat drones out at all times. As soon as the recon appears, it will be able to lock you, and it'll lock you faster than you can lock him. So jamming him before he jams you is unlikely. So drones area must - they'll attack him automatically if theyre out before he starts agressing.

As a pilgrim pilot myself, i would have to say, fly either a Raven or Dominix, Dominix for aforementioned reasons, and Raven, well, they scare me, Javeline Cruise HURT!
But generaly, if a Recon uncloaks next to you, he is already confident he can beat you.

A falcon wont do **** to a BS. Its got lower DPS than a blackbird. Rook may be a slight problem, but chances are it wont jam you 100% of the time and you'll be able to get some hits on it.

Put it this way.
If a recon is hunting you he is going to make sure he does everything right for him resulting in your death.
If you are hunting the recon he is just gonna cloak and hide.
They only real way to catch a recon is with traps and such of that nature or be specially fitted to counter the recon that is hunting you.
I know if I was hunting someone in my Arazu there is lil chance I am going to give them the oprotunity to kill me. ----------------------------------------------- ok ok

As an arazu-pilot I know that the last thing an arazu-pilot is afraid of is a bs. They are generally by far the easiest thing to catch with one. However anything smaller can catch up with you (not that they will before the pilot cloaks due to the target being faster, but anyway)
Have a friend in a ceptor come to the rescue if an arazu is there. Falcon is quite hard, but it wont do much damage to you. Rapier isnt really that much of a threat solo since it is vulnerable to damage from you. Pilgrim is quite evil at soloing, best way would probably be to have a smartbomb and capbooster (or passive tank as mentioned before)
However, imo recons arent supposed to be solo-ships, and if they are used in a group as tacklers/scouts you can kiss your ship godbye

well said, and honestly this is what I love about the class, imho a recon is more of a stealth bomber then the sb's ever were. I love this class, not many other ship types in eve if any give you as much control over the situations you find yourself in.

Well, how about this...
Ratting BS in a belt, Gangmate in a cloaked recon ship next to you. preferably a Falcon or Rook. hostile recon uncloaks, locks you, jams you or whatever it does. your mate uncloaks, locks the recon, jams it. You lock it, scramble, web, nos it. Voila! dead recon. Probably not the most effective way to catch one, but it works ----------------------------------- Rawr. awrarawr! |

Edited by: Franky B on 18/11/2006 14:07:27 Edited by: Franky B on 18/11/2006 14:06:42 your mate has a 5-6 second lockon time. any adequate recon pilot will disengage and cloak (unless they're flying a recon that does not jam... which is a hard one since amaar recons normally pack in ECM, caldari are made for ECM and gallente have dampers). the only situation where that could work is when you're facing a minny recon.
