No this is not joke, I've scouted around 35 - 40 systems in remote regions of eve and have not yet found anything more valuable than Gneiss.
With the problem of respawning is there any Bistot left in eve?
I don't expect people to give any locations but is anyone out there currently mining it?

If everyone in 0.0 space would start mining the biggest roids they can find the Bist would respawn.

Bitot is large in the most distant of systems on the map. I've found it 21 jumps from a station but went back a week later and the other locals saw my jumps-in-space path on the map and reduced the system to rubble.
It's amazing how thay have not done anything about it AND in the past, I sorta remember a respawn of the asteroids. At least they could manually respawn all systems until they figure out a more permanent solution. Every day they DON'T do this, they're ****ing off their player base even more.
I love this game better than any game yet BUT I'm starting to question all the time invest into it these days and the Bistot thing is a really pain in my ass.

That's not exactly what I mean. What I do mean is, since everyone that has found it has mined it to death and left the lower ores, specificaly Scordite, has it stopped respawning all together because of this limit on belt volume?

Bistot is still out there and in good quantities. The only 'problems' are getting to it in the first place and having the patience to make the jumps back to the station.
Most regions have mining ops hacking away at it all day every day.

Who knows. The devs post conflicting info all the time, and trying to understand the actual cause of these things is sepculation at best.
One of those knubskull devs said the Bistot problem was because of BS mining in empire space. This is contradictory to everything else I've read from these sames forums. They just seem to make things up when it suits them.
Things will change and they'll most likely have several explanations on "why" they did. One or more will not make sense. Mark my words.
Unless you can get your girlfriend to go "undercover" to ask questions and record the answers of the devs while they sleep, we'll never really know the true "how" or "why" of their decisions.

Actually I wonder who the knubskull is since you obviously have no idea what the dev meant.

Edited by: FlareZFX on 11/11/2003 11:10:28 There's loads of bistot left, not just near any stations. I just got back from a hunting spot where I spent 2 weeks, and there were ~94-95 radius bistot roids all over the place. Just keep looking :)

i've seen bistot every time i've played the past 3 weeks. i even managed to mine 1k+ of it in a day in a system with a station in it. you can still mine there but there's only babyroids there now. you could get a couple of refines from it though. -------------------------------------------

The issue is not any Bist, but rather that it is not worth the effort to go and get it for most. It is not much fun to have to make 30-60 jumps round trip to move ore from where it was mined to where you can refine it.
It is kind of strange that the Devs did not expect that casual players û those that only play for a few hours per day, the independent players, and the smaller corporations would mine in empire space. The truth is that most would mine in all space that did not have too bad of a rat spawn except that most of the .4 choke points are more dangerous than 0.0 space.

I think the problem here is that someone will mine the babyroids anyway. It's the same as saying that everytime you eat meat, you contribute to the world hunger problems by favouring the food type that requires tens of times more natural resources to produce than plant food, and are therefore only making the situation worse ;)
The point is, uniting people into a certain way of thinking never works, and won't work with the Bistot shortage either.

ok, rare stuff is only available now in Baby Roids. Does minning the huge common mega roids create more smaller babyroids?...or did i read that wrong?

Mining a field dry doesn't create more/larger roids. It just creates baby roids. It takes time for them to grow up to daddy and mommy roids.

What we do is check each Bistot roids radius. If it is 91+, we mine 100 units and moe to the next one. Any less than 91 radius is allowed to grow.
This seems to work well, and the bis keeps growing. Sort of like thinning trees without depleating a forest.
Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

I'm not sure if anyone from the Fountain Alliance has posted on here, but AFAIK the FA have done some bist farming in some of the systems, and even killing all the belts in a system did not make the bist grow back any faster, you'll have to kill ALL the belts in the game at once for the bist to grow back as you think it would.
Since I'm not a programmer I'm oing to make an asumption here about how I would do the roid respawns...
Plant 1 tillion veld in the universe randomly Plant .75 tillion scord . . . . plant 1 million bist
This to me seems to be roughly what is happening at the moment, the amount is more than likeley way out, but it does show a point....

Ok so exactly how, assuming it's been mined out, would I recognise a field that spawns bistot?

The reason that the bistot is depleted are miners and miners cause lag.

has it ever actually crossed anyones mind that it is not a bug and indeed intentional, pretty much any ship of any value needs megacyte to build, so since bistot atm yields the most amount of it, everyone will go for that, but if ccp slow down its spawn rate, they in turn slow down a players progression in turn keeping them paying their subscription for longer. Or as many seem to do instead, just quit the game IMO Bistot spawns slow not because of some bug but because it is meant that way. Sass Arcane Technologies |

I agree, when you pop a baby theres a chance it comes back as a omber or scordite roids and vice verses.
The system is broke, it only works partly as intended. At this rate there won't be any bistot roids left, so I don't even bother to mine in 0.0 anymore.

A bit cynical. I don't think they slowed the spawning of Bistot to keep people subscribing for longer. I don't see the problem with Mega and Zyd being rare either - we can see the market working, the price has gone up - its more of a challenge to find. People have to think.
I get quite a lot of Mega and Zyd from NPC Pirate loot drops - not enough for me to setup a BS building Empire, but enough to keep things ticking over nicely.
However, I do feel that it should be possible to pick-up these ores in Empire space too (very rarely) - ores such as Gneiss for example. At the moment the Alliances "own" all of the Bistot fields - and this is surely not good for the game. If the spawns kind-of moved around a bit, it would make "claims" rather moot and let everyone else in on the fun too.

I honestly think the cost of megacite going up is nothing to do with bistot rarity, it is to do with the payout of insurance. If you do the maths, building a ship from scratch now using the current prices for zydrine and megacite means that you break even (or only make a small profit) If you buy top insurance. Where as before there was hardly any profit to be made on selling Ships as you must just as well insure it and blow it up. Instant payout no need to wait for a buyer etc...

I think you're mistaken if you think it's so easy to find bistot. A few corps have some spots left, but a vast majority of them are jacked. Plus don't tell me I have to jump 60 jumps just to mine veld and scor to make bistot respawn right.
Bistot USED to have 500-800 units in each rock. Yes that's right. And now it only respawns with 5-20.Make them respawn like they used to. You pop it, it comes back full. do this and ships will be easier to build and PVP will ensue! ---------------------------------------

There is alot of Bistot, out there, i could direct you to systems with around 19 belts, all with huge Bis roids in them
But why should i do that, its in CA space and we need it for ourselves So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

TomB confirmed in one of the CSM chats that there is a fixed limit in m3 of ore per belt and that the baby roid problem was caused by this.
Its easy to see that this is true.
If the regrowth rate is based upon volume then for each 1 bistot that regrows, 160 veldspar grows in the same time period. Since asteroids constantly grow, killing or depleting a bist rock without removing a proportional amount of lower ores means that the bist cannot regrow to its full size. The veldspar will hit the limit for the belt before the bist rock refills. The same goes for other ores as well.
Obviously there is some variation to this but if what TomB said is true, then the fix is to make the ore limit per type instead of per belt. ==========

There is Bistot in the following systems in Curse:
X2-ZA5 RYC-19 WO-GC0 IAK-JW
These are just a few of the systems that have Bistot in them. Please feel free to blow up any Curse Alliance pirates while you are mining it :)

You lot still havent got it yet have you (well some have)
the bistot supply is still there just harder to find and not as much therefore the price has gone up to accurately reflect the true cost of battleships.. people were building them to fast an cheaply.. They used to be waaay more expensive
why do you need to mine bistot ? you want megacite lots of it? why? to build battleships.
but when there was lots of bistot an megacite was cheap then it wasnt worth the shipbuilders time building an selling em for less than they would get for the top insurance payout.
just buy the megacite u need support the deep space miners who are supplying it .. its still on the market.. ok it cost smore and you aint gonna make on your insurance any more but o well.. inflation eh?
