So with the new missile modules (extra range and damage) coming soon, do we return to the good old days of drake fleets, especially as the smart-bomb firewall is getting nerf /countered with changes to missiles?

So far just comments in the o7 show.
5% buff to heavy missiles and new missile modules coming. More hit points for missiles and resists against their own damage type. Devblogs to follow soon. No real sauce yet.

Lol no the drake is still terribad. The only thing somewhat impacted by this buff are going to be battleships with rapid heavy missiles.

they're giving heavies a straight damage buff? well it's about time. They have almost identical stats to lights in terms of damage and range but apply much worse.

if you do fly a drake to use them you have 2 choices
use Mid slot options - have a crap tank
use Low slot options - have crap dps
use Low & Mid slot options - have a crap tank AND crap dps

that's easily simulated
open a fitting program
- remove 2 shield modules from a 'standard' drake fitting
the tank is now crap
- remove 2 BCU's from a 'standard' drake fitting
the dps is now crap
the planned modules are essentially tracking enhancers and tracking computers, but for missiles
raw dps will not be increased
for missiles, the equivalent of tracking speed is explosion velocity and explosion radius
explosion velocity and explosion radius are only limiting factors to missile dps when you are shooting a target that is 1 size class or more smaller than the weapons size class being fired. raw dps is not decreased, you merely apply less of the available dps to the target
this makes the modules highly situational
ie .. only of use when shooting a target that is smaller than the weapon class
moar range .... whoopdie-woo .. I'm so excited

Drake can get about 50k EHP with a dcu, invuln and buffer rigs. Granted thats not brick tank drake stats, but its more than enough to welp T3d/frigs/cruisers that are dumb enough to get close. If they kite.. mjd to freedom. Freedom drake best drake.
The fit i regularly fly has killed 10mn fessor/svipul (prenerf) recons, assault frigs, frig blobs, navy cruisers etc. You underestimate the power of an application fit missile boat. The drake is no different. Even with lowish tank, it kills things so fast, you end up not needing it in some cases. The people who fit max tank on a drake with only a scram for tackle are the ones who ***** about application/dps. When you properly fit, missile ships are spooky.
Note: confessors killed using non bonused thermal.
Disclaimer: I am not saying uber application drakes with 50k EHP are the next form of elite pvp.. but when thats all you end of fighting because of current meta.. you tend to fit for your targets.

Welp, I started playing a year and a half ago and spent at least a third of that time training for the Ishtar and just about maxing out drone skills, so I rather hope they don't nerf it into irrelevance. They can remove sentries from the hull and it will still be very good for PvE and small gang stuff, but mess with anything else and the Ishtar will be dead.
Anyone have idea on the next OP ship so I can go ahead and queu up the skills?
