Every time I launch EVE, Windows 7 kicks me to the desktop after a few minutes and warns me that "Windows has detected your computer's performance is slow." and asks me if I'd like to change the color scheme to fix it.
My computers performance is fine, this warning pops up unnecessarily. I have plenty of system ram, cpu cycles, gpu cycles, and gpu ram available.
It presents me with 3 options, the last one being "Keep the current color scheme, and don't show this message again". Which I click. Every time. It doesn't matter, it always pops up again.
I've done a bunch of google searching and found several sites that detail how to disable this warning message (through the Action Center Settings I have unchecked "Windows Troubleshooting" and it does not fix the issue). Nothing is working. I have no idea how to fix this and it's really frustrating.
Does anyone have any OTHER ideas, registry hacks, or anything I can try to fix this? |

Try disabling Windows Aero (it's all useless resource hogging fluff anyways) and see if you still get those popups. Is this related to Eve alone, or are you having this occur when using other programs?
You can also try taking a peek at your Event Viewer (Start > Control Panel > System and Security > View Event Logs, its under Administrative Tools near the bottum) to see what might be causing the popups to trigger. That should be your first stop when diagnosing an unusual issue like this.
Once you're there, click on the Windows Logs dropdown and select System. It will take a few seconds to load all the events, since you can easily have a crap ton of them and not all of them are problems. Most of them should be Information events and can be safely ignored, though keep an eye out for ones that have Critical, Warning, or Error Levels (yellow and red icons). When you get a popup again, make a mental note of the time and check back here to see if something erroneous occurs at that time. That can give you a good idea of what's going on when this happens.

Hi Sobaan, thanks for the reply. I would like to leave Aero/Desktop Composition enabled because I don't like the screen tearing that happens when it's off. Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my original post.
I took a look through my logs like you suggested and saw quite a bit of information in there, but because I had never looked in there before it was full of so many events I couldn't decipher them all. I decided to clear the logs so I have less information to sort through, and when the next error happens I will make a mental note about the time like you suggested and check the logs again.

I rebooted and launched EVE, and within a minute I was kicked out to the warning message again. I closed EVE and Steam, and then checked the logs and didn't find anything that seemed helpful.
I see a service control manager error, but I'm pretty sure it's related to my antivirus (MSE) being unable to update because I have windows auto updates set to off (I prefer to do it manually about once a week or so). All the googling seemed to point to this.
But that's all there was. Everything else seems to just be "information", which I scanned through as well but didn't see anything that seemed to be related. |

Aero is the usual suspect for this headache. Next in line is an anti-virus that won't take no automatic updates for an answer.
I had the same issue when I would flip from one account to the next in a hurry to check things. Only way I got it to stop, shut off Aero. Using Avast for anti-everything. That doesn't mess with Eve, but I do have one of the setting checked for 'gamer' so it's popups do not bump me to desktop mid-pew.

it will disable the system checker completely
1.Go to the Start Menu and type Action Center on the Search box
2.Start it (it should be the top entry, under the "Control Panel" group)
3.On the left sidebar, click Change Action Center settings
4.Untick the Windows Troubleshooting checkbox, under "Maintenance Messages".
5.Click the Ok button and you are done.
other option is to set the game executable option to turn off aero only when eve is running, that will restart aero when eve closes, I don't really understand what you call "tearing" |

I the OP is getting tearing on their desktop with aero turned off there is something wrong with
a. the graphic card
b. the graphic card drivers
c. Some badly written program that is messing up a or b.
does this happen in both dx9 and dx11? |

I have difficulties representing what tearing means, but I assume it's some kind of ugly visual artefacts where the screen seems to bleed or is splitted.
anyway I never saw that expect with bad video card drivers
are you up to date
when you disable aero and reboot with aero off, does it still happens?
did you also try my first solution : disablng warning permanently at system level ? |
