I think that if alts are too intrenched to remove, then link them together with the primary character so that what one does effects them all. Make all the alts visible as apects of the primary character.

Alts are not the problem imo, CCP is the problem. They make no attempt whatsoever to monitor or regulate any behavior in EVE.
You can rename cruisers and sell them as battleships, you can lag people to death, you can set up impossible to complete missions, you can scam people every possible way imaginable and CCP or its representatives just give you "we're very sorry for your loss but you can hardly expect us to ban them can you??".
Even if you use dodgy game mechanics rather then the weaknesses of the players (which imo is fine), CCP just ignores it.
Starting to get the feeling that Biomass peeps are really clandestine CCP employee's

I agree with drunkenmaster, as he gets straight to the point in a stern and rather sexful fashion. And that sort of thing appeals to me. I did not make this response due to any reasons of character linking or anything.

How about instead of banning Alternates, have an "Other Characters" tab on people's character info interface.
Also a "Character History" including all previously held alternates if some were created/deleted in the past.
This would help clear up a little of the corp thievery/infiltration problem.

I think banning alts would be a bad thing. Some of our corp members have alts trained to do specific tasks. I also have an alt with no training that I only ever log on when my main char is stuck.
Having something where you could see someone's alts would be more preferable, and only those using alts for nefarious purposes would have any reason to object

My!! You all just opened my eyes! YES!! Alts are the end-all of evilness!! It's not the players that make alt chars into criminals and not CCP that don't ban people for scamming... No Sir!! It is the game MECHANICS that OFFER us 2 more chars that FORCE us to be evil!!!!!!!!

How did they ever manage this in UO (seeing Trammel gets quotes all the ti,e, some people here must know UO, right?)...
Oh, sorry, You there don't know what I mean? Why, in UO you have FIVE chars per account per server.... Blimy!! The abuse THAT must cause on a daily basis!!

I agree 100% with you. If we all had just 1 character to use, people would pay a lot more attention to the reputation of their character and they'd have to take responsibility for what they do all the time. Now you can just buy a missile frigate and go kill newbies in empire space with your ALT, and it doesn't harm your main character a bit.
EDIT: Should have read it all first.. That tab that would show a pilot's other characters would be a nice solution indeed.

yeah, being able to see from the show info screen on a character to be able to see the other two characters he has on his slots, if any, would be a good idea.

Just to clear up the confusion about my reply to this post.
1) I have used alts to take out ORE THIEVES in 1.0 space.
2) As Joshua pointed out it is theoreticly possible to mount and M-50 on a Kestrel. Look at the mods and skills involed. I have the mods mounted and the skills to level IV. I can mount one M-50 on a Kestrel.
3)In the post I did not mean to insinuate that I fly around in a Kestrel with an M-50 mounted launching a single torpedo at the ore thief. At the time of the post I was thinking Kestrel (thats what my two alts fly. And working on my Scorpion. It should have said "They run at the sight of my Scorpion Bristiling with Torpedos". My Bad.
4) Ite takes me roughly 3-4 Days to train an alt to the point that he can fly a kestrel and use Standard Missiles. Once I have podded a couple of ore thieves my sec is too low to safely use the character efficiantly (too much down time from the main). So after about '2' days I delete him/her activate the other character alt and retrain a new one. I have yet to lose any expensive gear yet and Kestrels are easy to insure.
The point of all of this is that ALTS can be a pain in the ass. I hate ore thieves, most are alts and so I counter fire with fire. And believe me. Watching all four missle launcers fire at a target in 2 second intervals is cool. Sometimes you can get away from Concord Sometimes you can't.
Sorry for the confusion guys I'll think posts out a little better in the future.
The moral is adapt to the environment and overcome.

Best way to implement having people to pay for additionaly characters besides forcing 1 char per account and making them have a 2nd account?
Do what FFXI did, make you pay an additional $1/month for each character past 1.

Why the increase in pay? That wasn't something agreed upon when people started investing time in their alts, if so then the service for using a 2nd character should be way better, simultaneous training at a slightly reduced rate perhaps, to not offset dual accounts.
