You know Ginger... they need to add a decoration for all character portraits that would allow an option to have a laser target reticle painted on your forehead. That would be perfect for you.

If I understood it correctly, the fighters should return when recalled. In this case they did not return and stayed at the gate to get shot by sentry guns. This bug does happen from time to time (fighters not returning when ordered) and you end up having to re-assign them to someone else out of the grid and then recalling them. Despite my delight that this bug cost Ginger several fighters, it has to be acknowledged as a bug and fixed. ----

I have heard of this happening before. In our case, the fighters chased a target that jumped out. They continued to MWD in the direction of the star system the target had entered and would not respond to commands to return (I think that fighters only listen to commands when they are not in warp). In our case, the fighters weren't destroyed. I don't recall what the solution was.
A bug is a bug. You can chuckle at it happening to someone you don't care for, but you shouldn't dismiss a bug because of it. Some day it will affect you or someone you know.

Agreed, many just post as they are jealous of your fame within eve. Being well known in eve is half way to winning the game (oh and btw, I won it about 1 yr back so you can only hope for 2nd place )

Ginger exposed the Caldari secret warp disruption torpedo, which is why javelin torps were nerfed in Kali/Revelations, so now they all hate him for it

I just tested this on SiSi and my fighters disengaged as soon as the target jumped, and responded immedately when I recalled them. I suspect GM has discovered another diabolical undocumented item in eve. Perhaps some sort of jerky that one carries in their cargohold so that the fighters keep pursuing?

Tbh, this is a bug. Like or dislike Ginger, this is clearly a bug.
EDIT: He isn't saying the fighters jumped, he's saying they followed the target to a gate, no matter what he ordered them, and promptly got pwned by sentries.

If u have a carrier try engaging a target on a gate.Let the target jump out and watch as the fighters continue to try to follow that target into the next system and if your act is criminal watch and enjoy as all your fighters go pop and wont follow u no matter how many times u tell them to return to drone bay or return and orbit or even warp out the carrier. So all those who are aggroed by fighter just insta or run for the gate then come back in and enjoy the show
I tested ginger's exact scenario. I sicked some firblogs onto an enyo and after a little bit of time watching them attempt to hit it I jumped through. The fighters then disengaged and I was able to recall them to my carrier and return them to my drone bay. The fighters did not get stuck following, they responded as soon as I issued my command.
BTW: Ginger gets flamed for being an idiot (my motives at least, re: warp scrambling torps), not because he is doing anything right.

You missed the point.
He isn't jumping, and the target isn't jumping.
It goes like this; GM attacks Joe with fighters. Joe warps to a gate. Because the fighters are mid warp, GM cannot recall them, and thus the fighters are doomed. After arriving at the gate, GM's fighters get promptly pwned by gate sentries, because GM is criminally flagged.
The problem here is, there is absolutely nothing that GM can do to avoid this. This is obviously broken.

This isn't a bug it's how fighters work genius. Fighters follow targets in warp and just like your own ship can't stop mid-warp> You have to finish warping to your destination and then warp out. Fighters are exactly the same. As soon as you see your fighters stop following and begin to attack you hit recall and presto they return.

Edited by: Ginger Magician on 26/11/2006 13:29:59 What happens is that the fighters do not return they keep saying following once the target has jumped out. Whilst they are in follow mode they will not return to drone bay return to orbit or even follow u when u warp the carrier. In this case I was right on the gate with my carrier and the target bs was sitting in jump range of the gate.I locked the bs launched fighters and engaged target.Shortly after receiving some fighter lovin he jumped out whereupon I ofc recalled the fighters. Out of 9 active fighters only 4 returned and the rest were stuck in follow mode and refused to obey any commands. It could be something to do with sentry fire as well perhaps but as I was criminally flagged and I was taking sentry fire on the carrier as well the amount of damage received by the fighters was relatively low in most cases only shield damage.
The first time this happened to me also involved a bs who jumped out.The fighters became stuck in follow mode and showed as being at full health for some 10 mins.Unfortunately after that 10 mins they suddenly disappeared 1 by 1 from my drone list and I subsequently found out that the targets friends had popped all the fighters some mintues before without them ever showing taking damage or responding to the aggro. Apparently they were also fired on by sentry guns despite the fact that I was not criminally flagged and I only ordered them to engage a target who had aggroed me and was a red flasher. In general these bugs are a nasty mess and given the ridiculously high cost of fighter drones it is a costly business when things go wrong with them.

This is the exact scenario I tested. My carrier locked the enyo and sent fighters onto it. After shooting a fighter a couple times and waiting for my agression timer I jumped through and all the fighters ceased following and were recalled. I just tried it again with 12 fighters this time. The fighters all went idle as soon as the target jumped into the next system. I was then able to recall them to my dronebay and they all responded, although it wasn't all at once. Took roughtly 10 seconds for them all to switch from idle to follow (follow me).
I also tested sending fighters onto a target which warps away and then jumps through a gate. The fighters were technically following when the target jumped, but that was because they were back to following (returning) to me automatically when the target was gone.

As for your second point about fighters following the BS. You do know that you can't see the fighter HP when they are following someone that you aren't on the same grid with, or when you assign your fighters to someone off grid. That is the risk you take by sending fighters to follow a target.
I agree fighters have some issues still though, and it would be nice to get some hp update remotely.

Thx to ccp I have personally lost 250mill to this bug and they wont give me anything back And another good way if u dont have sentry help is to keep the guy who was aggroed in the next system bring your friends in and just kill all the fighter drones one by one. They will not aggro u in any way and unless the carrier actually is there and can lock u there is no risk.
Great isnt it
So all those who are aggroed by fighter just insta or run for the gate then come back in and enjoy the show
One can only imagine the fun with bugs revelations will bring too given that this bug has existed since carriers were introduced and so far CCP havent even realised the problem.
Solution: Stop trying to kill Frigates with Carriers. Take it to 0.0 you idiot. Noob no one really cares what you say :P
