As Revelations comes to pass, my attention now turns to the next patch.
As I plan on getting a serious hardware upgrade within the next 6 months, I thought it be appropriate to suggest the new shiny things IĘd like to see whilst playing the game as well as fixes, improvements and optimisation options which would allow slower machines to play the game better.
This list it not meant to be a complete one, nor is it meant to suggest any oversights by the CCP, itĘs just a wish list.
Ship Design Overhaul These ships need complete redesigns as they simply just donĘt make sense. Rupture (I switched gallente as soon as I realised how ugly it was ū ItĘs that bad) Stabber Griffin (those sideways facing exhaust jets arenĘt actually cool) Typhoon (itĘs a good idea, it just looks like a the remains of last mornings breakfast.) Moa (the fugiliest ship in the game) Blackbird
Model Overhaul All of them, but especially. Domi Raven Scorp (the new version still needs a bit of work, but a vast improvement ) Thron (looks great in current dx 9 screenshots.) Condor (more crow/raptor - needs to look a little cooler) All Caldari Cruisers (need more detailing, their currently way too blocky) All Mimitar Cruisers (need cleaning up, IĘll come back to the rust in a sec.) All noob frigates (especially the ibis, what an ugly ship) All stations (increase the number of undocking ports and make stations stightly larger) Capital ships. (need to be scaled up) Drones
Hit effects. Currently, the hit effects in EvE are substandard. I was playing homeworld (original) and the hit effects and turret effects compared to EvEĘs are superb. in eve, there seems to be a central gimble in which missiles spawn from, or shockwaves emerge. With all the detail in the up and comming models, this effect looks jarring as well as dated. Turret and hit effects need to match the quality of the ship models ū or else itĘs better playing the game with them permanently turned off. - Remove the flat, bitmap based effects (nos, nuets, weapons fire, engine trails) and replace as many as possible with volumetric effects when viewing ships up close or there hodĘs. - Replace the flat shockwaves (there out of date) and replace with blast spheres. see this
Graphical updates. - Lens Flares need buffingą see this
- Planets need proper scaling, right now, you may as well not have planets in the game, and also, higher detail maps would be nice to make them feel more real, again see above image. - Replace system backgrounds, with massive and live volumetric effects, which span several constellations or a region ū with overlaying system nebulae adding to the ambience ū this would actually improve the use of the seamless map, and give you a real feel for your region. ū it would also make every system have a different back drop. (see infinity - for an image see here- for video in realtime see here) - Add special distortion effects to webifers and warp core scramblers, in which light gets diffracted. - Bloom (it was talked about, as long as it could be toggled, it would rock!) - Rust (the longer youĘve had a ship, the darker and more battle hardened itĘd look, mimitar would have a greater rust factor where as amarr ships would stay shiner longer.) - Increase the size of guns!! (Possibly 4 times larger than current on cruisers and battleships.)

Ship Behaviours. All those these are not quite graphical upgrades, i'd love to see this sometime down the line. Right now, all ships have similar behaviours; they move in pretty much the same way, with only agility being the factor that changes between the classes. Even Titans bank and roll the same as battleships. IĘd like to see each ship category in each race have there own specific behaviours, with varying bank, strafe, drift amounts with changes in the way ships maneouver, (eg acceleration, a ceptor would face itĘs direction before itĘs actual velocity would change, where some battleships would slow down first then turn and face and accelerate.) thatĘs +32 different behaviours, all in all making you actually notice the difference between one ship class and other.
Thats it for now, i'll add more when they come to me. Sig removed lacks EVE content, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

While I understand what you are getting at with these suggestions, a few just aren't plausible. I realise a lot of things in EVE aren't plausible either, but if you're going to add more ship/graphical "realism", a bit of common sense would apply for sure.
You wouldn't see rust on our spaceships, since they are not exposed to a saturated oxygen environment on a regular basis and their armor most assuredly does not consist of iron, nor would you see scarring/impacting on the armor from, say, space-debris since every ship has a shield system.
Aside from that, some good suggestions in there. The planet/backdrop update might keep the art departement busy for a while considering EVE's scale, but it sure would add to the vastness of space.
Finally, I disagree with changing the blackbird, it looks just right! Crammed to the brink wih electronics.

sure, "rust" was a word used for want of a better term, you would find extensive battle damage on ships, cosmetic or otherwise no matter how good your shield or armour repair system was. After seeing some of the dx10 trials, i've come to believe anything is possible, either way, i'd hope to see these effects with a toggle on or off menu, which would be a step in the right direction as far as optimisation and customising is conserned. it's already implemented on fighter drones, (kinda) I see why it wouldn't be a strech for it to be applied to all player flown ships.

The rupture, as a ship, just doesn't make sence, the bellicose isn't pritty, but atleast looks like it's ment to do something in space, unlike the hair dryer... wtf :P Sig removed lacks EVE content, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

Aye, the belli isnt a supermodel, but it is at the very least consistent with what I expect a spaceship to look like... Every time my rupture flies off i have to check for the exhaust fumes to work out which way my 'Flying Power Drill' is heading... :) Lets just avoid the Stabber discussion completely shall we? :D

GFX in general in that Nexus 2 trailer is fine, but the ships are UGLY. They look as if they're made from pastic. The weapon effects look sub-par and don't fit at all with the rest. Except maybe the ships made from lego.
Thanfully eve won't have that, as it was showed in the ~DX9~ (don't forget) presentations. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Might As well Train Another Race

Ya, that was very pretty, but I don't put much (any) stock in pre-rendered videos for games. The chances of gameplay actually being anything like that are pretty much nil.
However, some of the more cinematic effects (distortion from the engines/weapons) would go a long way in eve. Also, *please* gives us more detailed textures, especially on large ships and planets.
That's my only real gripe. It would help with a sense of scale so much.

I think ships should show battle damage once shields are down....then fire or/and sparks once armour is penetrated. You can repair hull and armour in space but the battle damage marks can only be removed if in station.
I guess some guys would like to leave their battle scars on the ship as a badge.

One of the largest 'quality of life' features in EVE is that there is no majestic combat effects that will put the pilot ( both sides ) in awe to momentarily entrench the gamer in the combat.
I am refering to both sides of the plate : immersion and distraction. In the real world combat moments can put adrenaline in you and envoke <insert panic, awe, terror, etc here> and that is really lacking in EVE. This will require a gameplay change and graphics upgrade. Fights will need to be in closer quarters at the capital and command levels and the ranged combat will need to have heat and subsystem targeting added.
I'd go as far to say that the subsystem targeting system should tie close quarter combat ( such as gang modules that need to scan subsystems at the close range ) to long range combat ( the snipers who's guns can target subsystemse because of an active information scan ) but are limited by heat ( which should also bleed AOE thermal damage like a constant smart bomb to make sure 20 ships aren't sitting on top of each other ).
Just my 0.02 isk.

it's apparently a modification of the original nexus games, so the footage was made ingame and not prerendered. now imagine more detailed ship models to go with those quite intense battle effects
( a little note at the ship designers: look at the models in the linked thread, those ships are symmetrical but still quite exotic and make some sense from the engineers point of view ) __________________________________________________ a manly man with a female avatar |

I'm kinda working on the homeworld 2 mod atm for angels falls first. iif you want to see a trailer right click here
I'd like to know what exactly the devs are looking at, in terms of upgrading the engine, I mean, are they going to completely overhaul the graphical element (or even the frame work) or is this just going to be a high poly count and cosmetic upgrade to the game? Graphics wise, in relation to all space based pc games, EvE is getting pwnedinthefaceÖ Sig removed lacks EVE content, email [email protected] if you have any questions - Xorus |

I would like to see them fix the stupid thing on ship modules that looks like a first draft, like the punisher where the wingtips and armor plates over the engines are just floating in space, not attached to something. Or the light on the amarr shuttle that is just not aligned properly. Very amature errors, and hasn't been fixed for 3 years

Just currious what would this do to system requirements then?
Not sayin that a game needs to coddle to the lowest common denominator but to put the bar to high ends up looking like a very pretty game for a few.
Add to that with all those graphics what would a fleet battle be?
Not sayin it cant be done at all. Just a thought.

That Nexus trailer looks awesome. There's no reason why EVE can't look like that but it does mean that you'll need faster computers to play it without the lag. :(
My biggest personal beef with the EVE ship designs is that they don't make any sense. I'm not talking about adhering to hard sci-fi known physics, I mean they look fugly and/or just plain dumb. Here's the short list of complaints:
1. We're all supposed to be capsule pilots but the ships are chock full of portholes 2. Just about every ship has nonsensical thruster arrangements that would cause them to spin and be otherwise uncontrollable 3. Certain designs (like anything Caldari) are angular and craptacular-looking 4. More elegant designs like Gallante ships still have their drawbacks. The Brutix has one of the most menacing prows in the entire game but the arse-end is like an afterthought, just weird and gimpy with this ridiculous wings that make me think of the forelimbs of a t-rex, just about pointless and useless.
Overall, I'm still very impressed with the detailing in the engine, the lighting model, the texture effects. I've been playing space games since Wing Commander 1 so I can appreciate just how revolutionary EVE is, even today. But still, laurels are not for resting on! The ships really could do with some revamping.
