Okay, I used to get a lot of disconnects from EVE and even AIM would cut out. All my router would show in its logs was 'protocol 6', which I found to mean too many UDP packets on the network, which meant someone had bit torret with it's ass wide open.
I solved that problem (I hope) by setting up routing priorities, setting my bit torret using friend at the lowest priority, and myself the highest.
Well, the disconnects have died off a bit, but they're still there. Now I get protocol 17 a lot. WTF is that!?
A jovian cookie to everyone who helps me! ^_^

Edited by: baaaaal on 26/11/2006 05:30:27 how many global max connections is your friends torrent program set to? ive got mine set to 800 in utorrent and i never have any connection problems when playing eve, i limit my upload to 25-30kb/s in utorrent when im playing eve though and the download speed to around 800 (max is 1200kb/s)
if your friend is downloading at the max speed your connection is capable of regardless of what ports get priority in your router config its going to render any other internet stuff useless including just trying to browse the web. ive got the same router as you btw running firmware 1.4
btw you do realise under gamefuel 0 is the highest priority right?

I told him to cut back, but if it's still causing problems, screw him then.
How do I block bit torrent from the network? Deny its UDP packets?
What IS protocol 17?

assign dns address manually on your router for each comp and take him off the list when you want to play eve if he isnt willing to cut back when your playing eve disable his net completly i dont know about blocking specific programs because ive never had to do it and eve might need udp ports , he could just change his torrent port to the same as eve or some other port he knows isnt blocked and carry on as normal.
i dont know what protocol 17 is but if you ask @ http://www.dslreports.com/forum/dlink someone can probably tell you ------------------------------------------ My opinions are my own and not that of the alliance I belong to. |

Try updating your firmware to the newest, 1.7 released the beginning of this month. It fixes quite a few issues, but may not be related to what you are having.
You can upgrade it from within the router itself, under the admin section i believe ************************************************
