Every year there is always some stupid rumor that on christmas day ccp will complete your current training skill, and it never seems to come through. (Even though I hope beyond hope and set some long lvl 5 just in case)
However nice that might seem, what I have in mind is alittle more down to earth workable: A skill bank.
I played Fable a bit on my xbox 360, and was quite intrigued by how they managed growth (though very simplistic)
It also seems that in recent times ccp might be more willing to mess withhow people train skills, i.e. the new training que they mention in the drawing board part of the forums.
So here is what I am getting at, I want all my lost time over the year applied to my character in skills of my choice :)
I understand that this would be a nightmare to try and figure out so what I suggest is a skill bank.
I.e for every minute you loss training time you get skill points applied to a skill bank. Sorta like what Fable has.
This would prob be a pain to implement, but would get rid of the need for any ques, as well make it easier for players with lives that dont want to get on just to switch skill training all the time, and make it easier for noobs who dont know from the start to always train a skill, or for the people that just plain forget to flip something.
Thats my christmas wish anyway

I'm no programmer, but that seems like a LOT of work to get that running, especially if you wanted it to work retroactively.

Haha nice one... but sadly, I could answer yes and so could everyone else on this board, cuse the definition of whine is relative... just like everything else :P

Since at the copletion of skilltraining there is an eve-mail sent by you to yourself, a simple skillbank_time += login_date - skill_completion_date would fix the problem.
login_date is the time at which you get online after the skill has completed. Easy. (Yeah, I know, all the special cases and impossible scenarios left to code into this simple function...).
But it's a good idea, I think I lost a week or two since I started playing (in april). I could really use that lost time for a lvl5 skill or something.

It would actually be ALOT more complicated than that. Because skill rely on a couple of dif factors. First you have your base attribs done by your starting char, then your learning skills, then implants. Each time you add one you would have to adjust the skill bank.
Second you have to deal with the primary and secondary attribs on skills.
How on earth would you store that kinda thing.
Best case you have even numbers for all atribs, but that never happens.
IT would be a royal pain to figure out how to store sp in a bank....
I think the best way would be to keep track of the time, not the sp.
For example, I have lost 10 mins of time here at these stats and 10 mins of time here at higher/lower stats. Not so bad.

Actually given the fact that new starter characters are getting 800k skill points with Revelations and all the associated whining attached to that issue, completing any skill training at midnight on the 24th December would be quite a relevant little prezzie that might silence the whiners for once.

Nah, you'd still have the people who would whine that they weren't able to set the skill they wanted and the skill that was completed only had an hour or so left.
Although, I don't actually like the idea of "Whatever skill you're training to level 5", what if our lovely Titan characters are training their Doomsday skills to level 5.
I much rather the suggestion of a "Corpse launcher", that also gets seeded on the market. Or perhaps seed Snowballs on the market, for those that still have their Snowball launchers (Yeah, I still have mine and all 100 SnowBalls)

Paintball cannons! They should leave splats of the appropriate colour (whatever ammo you load). That would allow carebear pvp in high security space.
