I would like to ask other peoples' thoughts on this. Rather that try to move the camera around with the same mouse that I need to target with, could we not instead use our numpads? It really would not be hard to do, and it would allow players the ability to move the view of their camera while at the same time performing some other function with their mouse, be it targeting or activating a module, or whatever. The idea is simple, and here is how I would have each key on the numpad work:
1 - Rotate up and clockwise around ship 2 - Rotate toward the top of ship 3 - Rotate up and counter-clockwise around ship 4 - Rotate clockwise around ship 5 - Center camera behind the ship 6 - Rotate counter-clockwise around ship 7 - Rotate down and clockwise around ship 8 - Rotate toward the underside of ship 9 - Rotate down and counter-clockwise around ship
And if you instead of having a ship centered view, if wanted to pan from your ship, you could toggle your numlock key on and off and use the same numpad keys.
I just think this arrangement, at least as an option, would be very beneficial on gameplay.
So, what does everyone else think?

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. Give another aspect to functioning within the game.

If you hold your right mouse button you can pan around with the camera.

Just a hotkey to align the camera directly behind the ship would help.

Good idea, you should be able to use the arrow tagents aswell. |

all good ideas so far.
I'd like a button to move current/closest target to (just-off)centre screen, and maybe a flightsim-like external padlock to keep them there .
