You must be working in an area that isn't very profitable to camp. No one is going to come camp your area if you're the only thing worth killing. You'll see the big camps in inter-region routes or areas with storyline agents. In fact, my crew camps a certain storyline agent and we get large numbers of misson runners with expensive gear coming out here.
And I've seen and/or heard of even bigger camps along the inter-Empire routes! _________________________________________________________

I've seen the campers (the lone gankers I've been talking about) at Aunenen.
Lots of traffic through there - lucrative trade - and only idiots sitting off the gate.

lol get over it. Gates are supposed to be campable, its why they put them into the game in the first place. With proper organisation and specialisation and the right numbers, you should be able to almost toally lock down a gate until someone with a better plan comes along and pushes you off.
So get a better plan... the pirates have been kind enough to tell you exactly what is going to happen ahead of time. If you can't think of a way around it, then you deserve to die.

the warp to 0km option was long overdue.

this method still depends on being able to lock and scram a frigate before it warps, and people using something like an executioner for a grocery run will still be near impossible to stop.

You're obviously not paying much attention. This is an old tactic given a new twist.
Warp to 0km doesn't change much for gate campers. They'll plan and organise as much as they ever did. What changes is that all the whiners on these forums, who think they're entitled to a free ride through low sec without any planning, will have to realise that "warp to 0km" isn't going to save their lazy asses the way they thought it might.
Pirates/Gate Campers have never had to think particularly hard to catch this section of the player base.

Would be nice to see sentries get a significant boost, or game mechanics altered. It should not be possible to perma tank sentries.
I have no issue with the camp being setup like this, but having it so that you can have an afk scorp do the boosting is silly. At least have the mechanics set so that you have to DO something in order to sit there :)

This is a none-starter. If you've got a group of people working together to camp a gate and camp the sentries, if you up the damage, intelligent players will only find a way to tank them with existing numbers or bring in a larger team.
Increasing sentry damage isn't a solution to something that isn't a problem anyway.
Originally by: Zebler At least have the mechanics set so that you have to DO something in order to sit there :)
You mean "DO something" other than get a gang together, fit the ships out properly, ensure the necessary supplies (ammo, boosters, missiles) are to hand to camp the gate?
Or do you mean "DO something" more than the lazy people flying through the gate who couldn't be bothered to research the likelihood of a camp being there or not?

Edited by: Lagerstars on 27/11/2006 15:15:38 I dont see how this has anything to do with warp to 0km - the problem is when you try to get away on the otherside - when you have jumped thru the gate surely? Anyone stupid enough not to use Insta's before ARE stupid! And surely tactics on the otherside wont be any different?

well as cheap as this tactic is, atleast the pirate doing it has the balls to sit on top of the gate in sentry range unlike chicken snipers who deserve to have their targets logout.

The suggested tactic can hardly be described as a counter to WTZ. In fact, it's a tactic that's viable on inbound traffic regardless of whether there is a WTZ option or not ... even with WTZ, inbound is always a risk, and the tactic suggested in the linked post is not "new" per se, and has nothing to do with WTZ, which impacts the outbound.

You pretty much read my mind. No offense but people on this forum give pirates waaaay too much credit. 90% of the pirates in Eve are ****wads that use lame grief tactics to pop newbies coming through gates and this warp to 0km is going to shut those people down permenantly because they simply aren't smart enough to use "tactics" of any kind that don't include exploiting some portion of the game that is on the "crap to fix" list.
Real pirates, those that are organized, that actually make an effort to target for profit and plan their camps out are going to be as effective as ever because instas didn't stop them, so warping to 0km won't stop them either. Piracy, ... real piracy, is in no danger of disapearing, this is simply going to eliminate griefers and quite frankly to that I say.. good ridens. i personally think there are better ships to use than the hawk, but this isnt anything new. snigg and veto have used this sorta tactic for years as pirates.
0m warp in was a nessary step to fighting lag. this really only stops more sniping type battleship camping which is kinda lame anyway so win win.
there are plenty of modules to help you out in tackling\fighting targets. -------------------------------------------------------- Forever Pirate 2

Do you people that are *****ing about snipers know what it takes to be an effective sniper? You dont just hop in a T2 outfitted mega or apoc.
You ***** about snipers, well learn some **** skills besides mining and refining, fly a transport instead of a Itty V. OR you could even get a couple friends together, and take a sniper out with a little help.
A corpmate got jumped last night and lost 2 guns worth 17 mill each, called out for help to his corpmates, and they came and took out his attacker.

Ummm - does thiis even have anything to do with WTZ . . . . with WTZ if they are jumping OUT this won't stop them, it is only effective when someone jumps IN to the gate camp . . . so nothing different from current situation . . . same game different day

I'm not sure why this is adaptation? do they catch incomming ships? cuz that would be adaptation if WTZ hits, warping AWAY from the gate has always been the tricky part, not warping TO the gate...
I don't get it.. but then again, i didn't sleep at all last nite so i'm rather tired and my brain may be working on 50%

Perma tanking sentries solo is one thing. Using gang organization and such is another. I applaud those who use teamwork to overcome the sentries. About the scorp being afk, I'm not sure that's the best idea at all. It may be tanked to hell and back, but that doesn't save it from being attacked by another gang of 5 bs's.
I fly through this gate camp and get ganked by these guys, I'm coming back 30 minutes later with friends and I know exactly where they are. Warp to 0 on the gate and start an ECM on the scorp with another scorp, he loses lock of his hawk buddy. The hawk gets pounded into the ground by the sentries whilst being scrammed and webbed to hell and back by the other members of my gang. If they don't aggress and jump through, I'm already at 0km from the gate, so I jump as well. Then all I have to do is scram them before they warp away.
What I see this doing is actually giving anti-pirates a better way to find pirates. And it also gives the advantage to the non-pirates. A 2 man sniper group was near impossible to catch without a cov-ops and multiple other ships. With the new system, it will make things very interesting.

Yes, but for that to happen at such a close range, you'd first have to target them and THEN damp them to the point that they couldn't target anything past 20km.
A couple damps isn't going to do much to a ship with over 2000 sensor points.

You don't damp the tackler you damp/jam the shield transfer ship. Then watch as the sentries nuke the tackler.

You think you could dampen him enough to cause him to lose his target of the hawk? What if they are sitting right next to each other?
I guess if everyone is using Scorps to do this, you could just use a couple racial ECMs...
...Bah, can't catch my nano-d ceptor anyways...
EDIT: By the way, this is going to make for some great reverse ganks... Even if they have a scout on the other side, you could jump through some bait and have 10 buddies there in a heartbeat.
