If I remember correctly from someones testing on the test server, its better to use something with more highs, as more salvage modules means more chances at a successful salvage.
Plus isn't a setups thread a bit redundant as they'll all be the same? Highs: Salvager Is Mids: Whatever Lows: Whatever, maybe some cargo expanders. --------------

So whats the best ships to make a salvager? We need a mix of high slots, speed (and or room to fit a mwd), and cargo space.

Destroyers ;) Ample high slots. Pretty nippy with MWD. Reasobale cargo space. Cheap as well.

Salvagers don't affect ability to salvage; think of it like a tractor beam, except for wreckage...but that's not right either because you can still tractor in wreckage.
Increasing the chance of getting a salvage is through skills and riggings.
As for what ships make the best salvagers, I have to recommend either the Bestower or the Sigil. Both have the best (IMHO) combinations of speed and cargo space, with the critical necessity of having two highslots -- tractor beam and salvager.
I fit out a Sigil with 5 nanofibers, an afterburner II, a salvager and a tractor beam -- it does 1100 m/s with the burner on, and follows behind me on missions to police up loot.

Exequorer...1000+ cargo - cruiser slots - decent speed if using inertia stabs and nanofibres.

1 Small/Med shield Booster 1 MWD 1 Cap Booster (Or whatever)
2 Cargo expanders, Nano's, or whatever

Your doing it wrong, any 8 high BS works best.
High: 6xSalvage 2xTractor Beams
Low: 4 CE named
You have 1000+ cargo and doing 6 at a time with good skills, 82% chance per cycle of getting what is there.

notice in the topic how it says Industrial Salvager. as in, this is a thread dedicated to outfitting INDUSTRIALS as Salvage ships.
Industrials can carry alot more salvaged parts than any BS or other ship

They're 1m3 each, and you get on avg 2m3 per wreck, unless you're salvaging BS in 0.0. That means you can fit 100+ ships worth of salvage in a destroyer, and 300+ in an exequror.
There is no need whatsoever to use an industrial for any salvage operation.
Now if you're also looting, then yes. ----------------

Name of the thread is DarknessInc's Guide To Industrial Salvage Setups, not Industrial Ship Setups. Though that may have been the intent Besides... who said combat ships can't be used as haulers? RKK pilots do it all the time

Edited by: Grey Area on 29/11/2006 23:21:53 Coercer. 3 tractors, 3 salvager I's, Tech II MWD in midslot, four x carge expander II in lows. Stick a big secure can in the hold for a nit of extra space, and you can clear 1,000 m3 easily. It also means your salvagin and loot can be nicely separated...drop your loot in teh can and let your salvagin fill up the balance of space.
Yes, you may have to warp back once or twice on teh larger missions...but I find the extra speed moving from can to can and the multiple tractors/salvagers more than makes up for it. I cleared a level 4 "Vengeance" in one hit, and a level 4 Worlds Collide in two.
I'm told the Catalyst is even better, but I can't fly Gallente ships... ---

Im curious if a Moderator can clean this thread of the non-Industrial setups since this entire thread is for the assistance of Industrial Salvaging Setups, not destroyer, not battleship. Industrial

Can tractor beams pull wrecks?
If so I would probably just drop the weapon from a mission looting Exequror, and fit a Salvage module instead.

Darkness, I think your topic is too specific. you're making the assumption that the best ship for salvaging is an Industrial, which I think it open to question, and SHOULD be discussed. Most mission runners do NOT use Industrials for looting, and so WILL not use them for salvaging. I think discussion of this is germaine to the topic...I know it's your thread, but the trouble with an open forum, is everyone has the right to post. ---

You are absolutely right, Curzon. However, there *is* an advantage in putting multiple salvager modules on one ship. As far as I can see, each salvager module operates independently... which means higher chances that the wreck will be salvaged during the first cycle.

Sorry dude but your post is nice but its no good.
Lets picture this:
Setup 2 High: 1x Small Tractor Beam, 1x Salvager I Med: 1x Afterburner II, 1x Sensor Booster, 1x Med Shield Extender, 2x Small Shield Extender Low: 4x Named Cargo Expander
Compared to this: armagedon setup High: 4x small tractor beam, 4x salvager I Med: 1x abn or mwd II, 2 large cap batteries 2 Low: 4x local nanofibers, 4x local cargo expanders
What do you think will be better for looting lvl 4 missions?
Also if you want to loot and tank at the same time do it like so: Apocalpse 3x small tractor beam, 3x salvager , 2x cruise missile launcher med: aftburner t2, large Cap battery 3x low: 2x LAR, 3x N-type hardners, 2x Cap relay.
This way you can tank forever and keep the tractorbeams running and salvagers running. This would mean though you need a friendly raven to do it at the same time. . Seriously Have I Not Said How I Can Assist Some One You Are Killing Online? |

IMO an industrial would be better to loot and salvage a big mission.. If somebody wants to loot and salvage a big ass mission or maybe infiltraded outposts(not sure, but refinables + wrecks would be lots?) still make you warp in and out tho..
There were a few missions my industrial had bout +4,000m3 on loot only..

So what you really need is three ships/setups:

Slavaged componants arent that big.
You need multiple slavagers to have any real chance of salvaging.
