Do you realize that this map is a big POS and has no practical use except for scanning with probes?

If the idea was to make the scanner window more compact by removing the minimap, it didn't turn out so well.
Currently we are forced to use the F11 map, which takes a large chunk of space and moves the overview to the center.
So while the new scanner is more compact and handy, in the end we will have much less space anyway :(
For those that haven't used the scanner; the minimap was used to quickly see your position and scanning direction in a system, as well as moving between different clusters in a system for scanning. The full screen map just isn't efficient enough for this.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is... "/signed" !

Wait, I'm confused...
Everyone *****ed and moaned about the fact that the scanner and probes were on a flat 2d plane... and now you want it back?
You can still do directional scanning on the map and to a better degree. You can't see weather you are going up or down on the scanner, you can on the map, you can't see distances on the scanner, you can on the map. and you have your probe results ship up on the same map...
I'm not sure where the problem is...

more to the point, why did ccp get rid of it? it worked fine before, and was useful for finding people that warped to planets during pvp.
CCP plz bring it back

I tell you what I would like. On the old scanner, you could see your scanner arc. I wouldn't mind seeing that on the new map, would be nice to see the vertical arc for a change too.

This is not about probes, just scanning. No one has whined about the scanner.
Originally by: maarud You can still do directional scanning on the map and to a better degree.
You don't need the map to do the actual scanning, in fact you couldn't use the map for that. The map is used to get a visual image of the system and it's different scannable belt clusters, and warp directly to them. The map also displays your scanning direction, to help you find the proper scanning direction in the normal view. You don't need a 3D map for any of this.
If you use the full screen map for scanning purposes, you need to constantly switch between the full screen map and the normal view. Since the option to see the old ScannerMan(tm) is still available by clicking F11, you will see that people will use that instead for it's better efficiency.
Originally by: maarud I'm not sure where the problem is...
The removal of the scanner minimap was an unnecessary user interface change, that simply forces us to use the not-so-neat F11 map.

I miss it too, far easier and quicker than switching between display modes.
The system overview is really good for scanning, but too slow for quick location fix's -----------------------------------------------

I also would like to see the mini map back, but why not make it an option. For people who dont use it or want the compact scaner for they simply leave it off.
the new system map == instant death in anything less than fleet combat. it is of no use to small gangs as you cant waste the time on fancy gfx.

While you're at it increase the size of the box where you input the range to scan for. I only see 7 or so of the digits.

Yes, please. I appreciate the effort put into the new eye-candy map, I'm sure some people like it. But using it to get the layout of a new system and a quick belt-check is about as practical as using Google Earth to see if your car is still in front of your house.

Out of all the things that was changed in the revelations patch i miss this the most Like people have said the system map is way to bulky while the radar thingy was jsut the right size to hae in the corner of your screen to give you an idea of where you are while still allowing you to still have the ability to fight properly if you get jumped onto.

The loss of radar scanner man is a sad one for any serious PvPer.
Personally I reckon an optional radar screen like the old one pictured should be able to appear in the bottom right just under the overview so we can see it constantly, or maybe incorporate it into the overview under the gang window?
I'd love to see that.
Originally by: Ebedar Hyperion setup that put out about 1500 DPS, yet it still lost to a ridiculously well well tanked BC.

hi Ripper mate!
I have high expectations that in a few months time 'Radar Scanner Man' will be looked back on and we will probbly think how did we ever use such a poor system, like all new changes it takes time to get accustomed to use, just like the big overview overhaul change when it came out way back when was widely hated at first, but now dearly loved over its predecessor. ----------------------------------------------- Great minds think alike but fools seldom differ

Everything would be fine if u could just see the fricking scanning arc on the F10 map. You need to know what direction your scanning in to pinpoint where u need to lay probes if u don't want to use long range probes.

I miss it, would prefer basically a moveable one that looks like the F11 one, without all the extra junk. (If I could turn of all the other useless maps that is).

The map is too clumbersome to be used like the radar was, it takes to long to do the same thing. F11 while almost the same means you have to sacrifice 1/5th of your screen, which is distracting, it also doesn't show the distance in AU when you hover with the mouse like the old radar did.
This just made system scanning more fiddly and take longer that it used to.
