Seriously this has got to be settled once and for all. My main language is not english but I have always been taught that the plural of bonus is bonuses. Only recently have ppl started to claim that its boni.
So which is it?
Taken from an online dictionary:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bonus
Quote: ûnoun, plural -nus es. 1.something given or paid over and above what is due. 2.a sum of money granted or given to an employee, a returned soldier, etc., in addition to regular pay, usually in appreciation for work done, length of service, accumulated favors, etc. 3.something free, as an extra dividend, given by a corporation to a purchaser of its securities. 4.a premium paid for a loan, contract, etc. 5.something extra or additional given freely: Every purchaser of a pound of coffee received a box of cookies as a bonus. [Origin: 1765û75; < L: good]
ùSynonyms 1. reward, honorarium, gift. 2. Bonus, bounty, premium refer to something extra beyond a stipulated payment. A bonus is a gift to reward performance, paid either by a private employer or by a government: a bonus based on salary; a soldiers' bonus. A bounty is a public aid or reward offered to stimulate interest in a specific purpose or undertaking and to encourage performance: a bounty for killing wolves. A premium is usually something additional given as an inducement to buy, produce, or the like: a premium received with a magazine subscription.
or
http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/b/b0387400.html
Quote: bo+nus Listen: [ bns ] n. pl. bo+nus+es
1. Something given or paid in addition to what is usual or expected.
2. a. A sum of money or an equivalent given to an employee in addition to the employee's usual compensation. b. A sum of money in addition to salary that is given to a professional athlete for signing up with a team.
3. A subsidy from a government to an industry.
4. A sum of money paid by a government to a war veteran.
5. A premium, as of stock, that is given by a corporation to another party, such as a purchaser of its securities.
6. A sum of money that is paid by a corporation in excess of interest or royalties charged for the granting of a privilege or a loan to that corporation.
7. Basketball An additional free throw awarded to a player who has been fouled when the opposing team has committed more than a specified number of fouls during a period of play.
I know that bonus in plural according to a latin dictionary is Boni, but its english we are talking about here.

Well, jupp, thats what i thought too... But, there is always a but, some "fancy-pants" always try to be better than the rest of us and thus use the word "Boni" to seem more "intellectual" (dunno if that is spelled correct or not ). So why not just do as the rest of us and use "Bonuses" instead of "Boni", 'cus honestly it just sounds stupid...

"Boni" sounds too much like the plural of "Boner"

So you agree that the "boni lobby" is blowing smoke out of their behinds and that statements such as Quote: Bonuses for language impaired people, boni for people with some link to the correct form, bonii for poeple that know it stems from Latin but got it wrong
is wrong?

Edited by: Scorpyn on 30/11/2006 22:10:34 Boni is mainly for ppl who without knowing what they are talking about go around telling everybody that boni is correct and bonuses is wrong.
However, when used instead of bonuses because you cba typing all those letters, I approve of it.

The plural form of Bonus is indeed Bonuses.
Boni is a latin Genitive (possesive) form.
