Has this been definitively answered by anyone?
I think the debate is still one of the following:
1. No crew, just the pod pilot. The current ships being flown were originally designed for large crews, but with the advent of the pods, they have been eliminated and replaced with that single, highly trained pod pilot
2. Reduced crew. The pod replaces the majority of ships' crew, but we are still flying around with other people in our ships, running certain systems, etc.
Anyone have anything definitive to settle this? I'd like to know before I end up with my foot in my mouth in a RP situation....

It was answered- there was a whole load of ship schematics, once upon a time, with the ship crew numbers on. Maybe someone has the link.
It was 1-5 or so for frigates, several thoausand for BSs. -----------------------------------------------

The ships do indeed have room for a crew; the battleship crews can number thousands. They are considered expendable, though, so when the ships are destroyed, only their pilots are saved. Cold, but true. As for the viewing window, those are for the crew as well, particularly its navigational sections. Best regards, [GM]Abraxas The EVE Online Customer Support Team ___
This was in response to the question i posed:
I was playing and I got wondering, how can there be one person piloting such huge ships? I can understand a single person piloting a Frigate, because that is the smallest of the ships. Or possibly an Industrial because that doesn't require much room either. However, on the bigger ships like Cruisers on up, they are really big so how can there only be one person on the ship? Do these ships have room for a crew and do they live on the ship, maintaining its functions and making sure things work properly? Also, if we are in pods and just get "plugged" into the ships, why are there usually always "Bridge" sections in the ships? If we cannot see outside the pods, then what is the use of having a viewing window in the front of the ships? It's just mind boggling!
___
Way back when i started playing. There you have it!

Kind of a bummer, eh? Every time you 'cash out' an expiring insurance policy it's mass-murder.
*cue RP explanation about undocking without crew for that purpose*

There's a chronicle about a ship's crewmember:

Too bad CCP never thought to expand on the idea of a crew. Imagine finding a escape pod in space and finding a engineer inside who could become part of your team, to help you fight better, something like a human rig.
I'd love to be the captain and have my Scotty and Spock handy to make the ship work better.

To be honest, I really don't like the idea of having crew on board my ship and have always, I guess roleplayed in my mind (although I ABSOLULTELY do not roleplay Eve as a whole) that I'm just a pilot in a pod plugged into the ship.
I just think that having a lot of people crew a particular ship would demand some kind of political or charismatic power in your character. Or having some kind of reputation. You can train to fly a cruiser with a new character in about a week, and I just dont feel a new character would be able to get **** load of people to work for him aboard it.
If I can control my ship in its entirety from my computer screen wth my mouse and keyboard, I can easily concieve my character is 'plugged' into the ship in his pod in such a way he can command it in it's entiery aswell. I just tell myself the engines, tank, weapon bays etc... work like everything does in a car. it's a machine and just works without requiring men everywhere working it.
Does what i've just said make any sense at all? I'm expecting someone to quote this and just say "No" :D

As a pod pilot youre supposed to act like they arent there. Thats part of the surrounding of the game. We're all the "highest of the high class" when we start, and thousands of people are lucky just to serve on the same ship we pilot, even if they never see us. Thats how it is. So in a way, acting as if you have no crew is just as you should act. The same way an emperor might act around servants: as if they arent there. - - -
