Has anybody tried this mission yet?
I had a go last night on the level 3 version and all I can say is wow!
Mission is set in dead space, you warp in and are placed near an old stargate with POS modules near by, first spawn is a few cruisers and a couple of frigates. You kill a couple and another load (around 9) spawn, I had to warp out 7 times with 16 thousand shield (passive tank) on my Drake. The Dir rats are just mean!
Any ideas on how overcome this mission?
Btw, I gave up in the end . The mission had already taken me 2 hours, didn't realy feel like wasting another 2.

There's been a lot of posts on this. The idea is basically that "Certain" mobs trigger the spawns. So the objective is to leave them for last. Then either regen, or shoot them\it down and repeat.

I'm not certain how accurate this data is, I took notes when I did the Guristas version.
Wave 1: Trigger ship is the Renegade Wave 2: Trigger ship is the Assaulter Wave 3: Trigger ship is the Death Dealer Wave 4: Final wave spawns when you kill all the Enforcers Wave 5: Leader is one of the Death Dealers
Also, many of the structures are 150km away from each other, so you can warp to them, forcing the pirates to chase you around :) It's also a good way to return to the arena when you end up 120km away from a new wave spawn.

I warped in 100 km out with a battleship and turned around and flew toward the Sun. Shoot the closest group at a time even though they all eventually aggro. Use some drones for the ones that get too close.

I'm pretty sure I wasn't hallucinating :)
Maybe CCP is throwing us a curve ball and varies the spawns.

Hi Topodo,
Aye, I too haven't figured out which spawns the next. But will report it when I have ....if I ever do, lol.

Maybe the name of the 'trigger' spawns vary a little from mission to mission, but I think you can spot them because there's only one of the 'trigger' name on the wave... at least as far as I could see. So when the wave spawns, take a few seconds to identify the 'odd one out' and save it till last.
You can also warp between the mission structures to distance yourself from the rats (or get yourself in range).

This is key. There is always an odd one out (except for maybe the initial spawn) and this one needs to be saved for last. If you kill these "leaders" immediately then you will quickly have tons of ships shooting at you. ------------- Stop whining. |

I did this mission today in my ferox. Had to warp out once for the first time in a level 3. However I really enjoyed doing this mission! All the other level 3s are boring cos they are too easy in a ferox, this one was a bit more of a challenge. We need more missions like this, like a 'level 3.5'. Not quite as hard as level 4s but harder than 3s. Better rewards too! I noticed about 6 of the ships had a 281,250 isk bounty! No decent loot drops though. _____________________________________________________

I did the L3 Serpentis Blockade and got 6m isk bounties and almost 50 salvage pieces.
It wasn't really clear to me at a glance which was the trigger rat. The first spawn it appeared to be a squad leader, but I don't remember there being only one.
The only one that was clear was the last spawn - the Captain Sentry - only one of that type.
And it sure wasn't the highest isk ones because the HAC's with 260k bounties (and insane resists to therm) did not appear to cause a spawn. But maybe when I killed the last of them? Shrug. Guess next time I pay closer attention.

Edited by: Aeronor on 01/02/2007 00:20:49 Funny thing is, the gate which you're supposed to be defending has a bounty on it. So I blew it up for the heck of it. It's funny, because after the mission the agent says something like "The merchants which own the gate you defended are very grateful for your assistance."
Oops, some collateral damage there, eh merchants??

I have run level 3 Blockade before, but last night was hard.
Had to gang with my mate in a Megathron, I was in a Ferrox. Could not stay long enough to knock out the medium to large ships. I had 80% on Therm & Knietic, had to change set up to give me near 90% on both, even then had to keep running. I would get one ship, run come back, get 1 ship, run........
Shooting at the 250,000isk ships was useless on my own, they kept regenerating, if I got in close with antimatter I got hammered.
Took us nearly 3 hours, with cups of tea and buscuits at regular intervals, most of the time I counted over 1 missile per second hitting my ship contantly. Got some awesome screenshots of dozens of missiles in flight, all heading at my ship.
At the end, the salvage and loot was pitiful. Lost the time bonus as failed the night before because of shutdown time. Had to share reward with mate.
Could have made more money buying and selling on the market, or just scanning and looting/salvaging lv4 wrecks.
Has something changed with the level difficulty ever so slightly....

Yeah and my Mega actually took a pounding that I did not anticipate, lol. had to change to my initial setup still took a wee while to get rid of them all, i think we managed to blow up all the trigger ships first....cos there was a crap load of ships, and a crapload of missiles, from where I was sitting (150km away potting them off)I could see at least 70-80 missiles at one point flying towards my fellow corp mate.
Was a good ride, had me us on our toes.

Yeah it's a great mission force's you to think about sound tactics yeah?
I actually lost my typhoon in it. I had just warp back in (after fleeing with style) and as with the first warp in I find myself smack bang in the middle of not three groups but six, three above (Original Spawn) and three below, (Most probably from killing one of the ships mentioned above) Well it was raining missile, there are from 3-5 missile firing ships in each group and the BC were firing from two launchers, so each group were shooting 6-8 missiles at anyone time.
In the time it took to get clear of a module and turn 180' to warp out I was well into armor and that was including the 1600 plate large repper & 4 hardeners all flashing away. The lag was appalling and the warp out just hung hung moved hung POP!
I wish I had had the presents of mind to take an SS as the sight of that many missiles in flight toward your ship would have been priceless, snowing, it was snowing missiles.
I finished the mission sometime later after CCP were gracious and returned my ship. How did I do it? Same as always divide and concur with a BM place here and there for good measure. I do look forward to my next blockade encounter.

"OK! Where did I leave that freighter!?"
"Huh!? wtf man, did you just say you lost YOUR FREIGHTER! that must have taken some doing, lmao!"

I've gotten the mission twice so far since the patch from my lvl 3 agent in Isikesu. The first time I was in my navy Caracal and as always the fisrt ship I killed was the small one (in this case being the only destroyer in the initial group) and that destroyer is the trigger ship. Then warp in 40k out 6 or 7 more ships, some BC's and a few cruisers and a couple frigs. Of that second group I believe it's the highest bountied BC that is the trigger ship.
For the first time I ran it i had to switch to my Drake and warp in and out and recharge a few times even using a bookmark. I eventually decided I'd just wait until DT and complete once the mission reset. Warped back in after DT and didn't kill the trigger ships until last with the exception of the Dire Pithum Moa's. I saved those for last overall.
On the second time around I made the bonus in my Navy Caracal. Warp in leave trigger ship alone and kill him last. This way I only ever had about 6-8 ships at any one time locked and trying to hit me, some did some didn't, and with three hardners I was able to tank it around 40% shields until I killed a ship or two. Making sure you don't kill the trigger ships first helps a ton. And also make sure the first thing you do when you get in is fly in the direction of a station or warpable place so when you need to warp you can instawarp...and save the stasis tower for last...only makes you go slower so for at least me no big deal.
This mission is supprisingly hard and for the reward side Guristas Extravaganza was just as rewarding but much easier and I also got a bonus zone which dropped a faction mod. As long as you don't kill the trigger ships first you should be fine but it's one mission you'll want to be alert on.
To the best of my knowledge the trigger ships are as follows: 1)The lone Destroyer 2)BC with the highest bounty 3)Ditto 4)Ditto
As per my knowledge that's what I remember it being. Good luck with this mission and for any questions or help on it convo or evemail me ingame.

Yea, except that you're totally wrong.
The rat in the first wave that triggers the second is the lone destroyer, and has the SMALLEST bounty out of the whole set.
Further sets include Corelum Guardians and their 260k bounties with their absurd HAC resistances (to all 4 damage types!) who also do not trigger the next stage.
Personally, I find this mission so easy that I often kill the spawner ship first to give the next wave time to fly the 90km they spawn at to where I can slaughter them like so much fattened cattle. It's convenient to have all but 3-5 wrecks within a 20km sphere, for convenient tractor/salvaging.
Also, this mission does not take place in deadspace.

The last time I did this on lvl3 in a drake I never had to move from the warp in spot. The key on a drake is to go more tank then gank. But you don't need to warp out of the mission. If you warp into the mission at 50km you can actually do mini warps between some of the objects which will force the HACs to re target and start spamming from 100km again. --------------- This sig has been censored in fear of recieving the ban hammer... |

Gaius Sejanus, We all look at you in awe and wonder - happy now.
Would be interested to know how long you've been playing and what ship you used, could explain the ease away. Ive been on 8 months and had a rigged Ferox, found it more time consuming than hard, bud hard none the less.

I just kill whatever I can hit with my Myrmidon's medium rails and then try to keep everything at optimal range. If you only shoot the non-trigger spawns first, you will end up hundreds of KM away from the incoming spawns unless you sit in one spot, which is just silly in the beginning. Keep everything at at least 10km and you shouldn't have any trouble.
I haven't had any problems with this mission (only been playing for a little less than three months, so I don't have great skills). I generally tend to avoid shooting the NPCs with the biggest bounties, because they take so long to kill that you don't lower the DPS fast enough. But if you shoot everything else first, and keep the Vindicators at >10km, they cannot really hurt you.

It's a tough mission if you kill the triggers. Otherwise it's pretty straight forward. Killing a trigger ahead of time doesn't matter if you're 100k out from warpin as they spawn there.
Oh and for the L4 version (angels), the BS do damage on thermal (i think, weakest resist in any case) up close. Just warp to the mission at 100 and you'll be fine tho.
To the OP. There are Sticky threads at the top of this forum. There is a search box to the top right. Either of which would have given you and answer about this mission.

You could just kill the triggers only, the mission is complete once you kill the trigger in the final wave. Saves oodles of time if you can keep your distance/snipe etc.

I really used to struggle with this mission, but my active tanked drake (heresy!) and its lovely heavy launchers can fight through it now with no warp outs (assuming I respect the triggers). It's definitely my favourite lvl3.

i fly amarr on my main, and the lvl4 variant of this mission makes me want to go afk and pound my head into a wall. 6+ cruisers that throw tracking disruptors up from 50km= the most irritating mission i can imagine. takes forever to clear them out when you cant hit them at optimal with 60m/s tranversal. personally i dont see why they need that many. it doesnt make the mission harder, i sit there and tank, let my drones (with crappy skills because i spent most of my time training on guns, i dislike drones tbh) eat up the cruisers while i go read war & peace. just makes me want to cross train for a raven or get the afk missionmobile droneboat space turd domi.
in summation...i can understand 2-3 td ships, but 6 per wave(im doing the mission right now..ive kept count ) is a bit much and a huge waste of time n effort. its not like i cant tank (sustainable dual repped abaddon ftw) and im not asking them to make the mission easier. make a few more BS's warp in right on top of me for all i care, but getting EW'd to death on a mission makes it almost as boring as mining Meatwad FTW |
