In my preparation for rig manufacturing I have found that the components that I have salvaged are completely disproportionate to the components necessary for rig production. For example, a couple of the most commonly needed salvage are the burned logic circuit and the charred micro circuit. At least 5 of the rigs need 110 pieces of the logic circuit, and from my experience as well as posted drop rates from others, this component only only drops 3% or less of the time compared with other components which are more commonly found in the wrecks. With less than half of the wrecks dropping pieces at all, the overall drop rate is significantly less. Thus you may need to salvage 10,000 wrecks to get enough of this component for one rig. This is in comparison to the malfunctioning shield emitter, which in my experience has been a common drop. Now you may expect that this is a needed component, however when you look at many of the shield recipes, such as the shield strengh boosting Core Defense Field Extender, you do not see the shield emitter but instead see......yes you guessed it, the burned logic circuit At the current time it would seem there will be a severe shortage of some components, but a huge glut of some of the others.
I cannot find this discussed much elsewhere. Am I missing something or is this system incorrect and in need of fixing, and is it being addressed? I have seem dev posts on looking at the drop rate of wrecks themselves, but unless there is more of a match to what components are actually necessary, having more components may not do much to actually help build many rigs.
Just a thought, now excuse me I have to get back to playing this wonderful game

Edited by: Zyrla Bladestorm on 02/12/2006 21:16:55 have to say I've noticed the same thing, looking at projectile rigs, most of them will need something like 60 trigger units that drop with modest frequency, but 90 of one type of circuit and 80 of another type of circuit, which drop maybe 6-10x less frequently than the triggers, so in the long run the triggers will be worthless.
Rare is one thing, at this rate even the simplest tech I rigs will end up costing hundreds of millions apiece, maybe billions. . ----- It's great being Minmatar, ain't it? Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Is there a chance that the drops are related to the rat they came from? more shield parts from caldari based ships, and so on? This way the rigs would require parts from different regions, opening up further trade routes? I'm sure noone has salvaged enough in different regions to get a clear picture of this yet.

I have done a bit of salvaging around the different regions, and I am compiling a spreadsheet.
The logic cards seem to be the rare items, you will get numbers (in a particular region) of like Common 15, Normal 8, Rare 1.
The problem is with this is that the rigs requires Common 99, Normal 66, Rare 99.
Makes no sense, there will be a glut of the common components, and no rigs. |

There basicly are two drop groups:
Curcuits & Non-curcuits
Circuits drop all over eve. Non-circuits are race/faction specific.
So far so good. No problem.
Curcuits are used around 3 times more than non-circuits in production.
Fair enough. Not a problem.
Each Non-circuits material drop about twice as much as each curcuit material seen on total eve scale.
*UPS!* The materials needed 3 times more drops at half the rate. Thatas going to **** up the rig market as that makes non curcuits near worthless due to a 6:1 oversupply.
[I've left out a lot of math here. But if a real need for the numbers arise, i'll post it.]

Info has filtered down that suggest that indeed there ARE richer sources of the circuits. TBC though.

Why does this all smack of EQ and tradeskills. "I have to go camp the BigusDinkus for his thighbone for 2 weeks" because it is camped by zillions of folks all of whom need 10 in order to get their Staff of Wooziwidgits, and you want one too.
I liked it when you mined things, and made things. Now you have to hope to find things? Now I think I will go play WoW for a bit...

so true, at least I played on a Zek and could nuke the fuggers and steal their camp Brdaan Tagnik`zur of Rallos Zek, 67 enchanter RETIRED
here there isn't even a camp spot where it drops as a random rare, it's camp the whole damn system, salvage everything, and wait makes the S Ro ancient cyclopse of EQ almost seem common

Mmmmmm. Jboots. I never got those. But I was (still am, though I haven't played in a while) a level 70 beastlord. Epic'd. And trying to work on my 1.5 epic. Horrible evil quest. Maybe I'll be able to solo some of it if I get level 75....

Has anyone noticed if skill level in salvaging affects the materials you get out of the wrecks? I've only trained it to 2 so far, but seem to get four different items from Angel wrecks, and four different items from Blood Raider wrecks. Also, anyone else notice drones don't have any salvagable items in them?

It may be that the rares are not used in tech 2 rig manufacture, but that the named rat salvage like Intact Shield Emitter are used instead,
It may also be that once the system is fully functional and every wreck can be salvaged for components, that player ships (and other NPC ships than the rats that currently are salvageable) will drop with more frequency the current rares.
That would make pirate salvagers a profitable profession.
