I am trying to use scan probes in order to find abandoned wrecks to salvage. My skills in this area are very low.
The problem I am having is my probe's lifespan is shorter than the analysis time, so I never receive the results. Am I doing something wrong?
Specifics:
Skills: Astrometics Level 2
Equipment: Scan Probe Launcher 1
Probes: Snoop Scanner
The probe has a lifespan of 5 minutes but the analysis time is 600 secs. At the 300 sec mark I get a "no probes found" message and the analysis stops.

Your probe is popping before your scan is done.
You will need Ast III to use 10Au probes. The flight time on the probe is 10 mins with the scan time should be about 6 mins.

or you wait 'til tuesday - when the recon probe launcher is seeded snoop gonna be useful again

The Snoop scanner only scans for ships, I tried to use it for other types of objects, no go. And wrecks/cans can't be scanned it seems.
You need to be in a cov ops ship to shorten the duration of the probe ship scanners like Snoop scanner. Since the bonuses given by the cov ops ship shorten the scan time in half or so, also there's Signal Acquisition skill which reduces more the scan time.
You don't need a cov ops ship to use the racial probe scanners, cause their flight time is way more than you can smile at.

Train Signal Aquisition, it's a science skill, reduces scanning times by 10% per lvl.

Thank you for all the advice. I read some "How to" guides on scanning, but they did not seem to offer this information.
Or, if they did, it was overcome by all the other stuff.

I added it to the FAQ section at the end yesterday :)
Btw atm you can not probe for wrecks, I don't know if it's a bug or intended but that's how it is.
