Originally by: Ask Jeeves eve is pretty unplayable for me at times (fleet battles/ most agent missions). it just gets horribly jerky on my good system (core 2 duo system). im hoping that the next generation Eve will run well as i dont think ill be able to find a fix for my bad performance, anyone have any info on when it's likely to appear?
I had the same problem as you did I mean my fps was terrible. Everytime I pvping in gangs or did missions my fps dropped so bad it wasn't even funny It was like trying to hear someone on t.s. and all you hear is every other 3rd word . But what I did to solve the problem was replaced my 512 stick of ram and put in 1 gig corsair stick. Plus I updated all of my drivers as well. But I do have have a motherboard that is specifically meant for computer gaming. Now my comp works like a charm.

From what I remember correctly, kali 2 is just factional warfare. Kali 3 is the one with the graphical updates( both DX 9 and 10 I think) so we still have a LONG time to wait.

That's on our list of goals, but we'll have to make significant inroads against the CPU bound issues. As to when, I'm only saying "when it's done".
That's what you guys said bout Kali, so about a year + delays = 2 years :D I don't mean that as an insult, really -=====-

i really hope its not that long. i see many people (myself included) buying core 2 duo's so they can smoothely run next gen games like Crysis. Just looking at peoples hardware spec's in their sigs on various forums will show you this.
You dont want to prevent most these people from playing Eve (do you?), as it won't run well at all on these newer dual core systems. I really hope the wait isnt that long, i dont especialy mind a long wait for the new engine atleast if they addressed these bacic performance issues so that people with new systems can run it well. if that's even possible

Edited by: Soraya Kha''marr on 04/12/2006 23:28:06 Edited by: Soraya Kha''marr on 04/12/2006 23:27:20 ok, someone mentioned how difficult it is to implicate multi-threading (making use of 2 or more cores in multi-core CPU systems). multi-threading makes a program just a huge complex nightmare. it would take lots of effort to rewrite the EvE code to properly support mutli-threading. and then, because its so complex, imagine how many bugs and unknowns can and will occur? imagine 10 to 100 times more bugs and a lot more time to sort em all out.
its just not feasible at the moment. as posted, programmers are struggling to multi-thread games; not like they didnt try, they tried to do it with Doom 3 and quake 4, but no luck. they decided it wasnt worth it and stuck with what we got now. id even go out on a limb here and say that single core CPUs will rule the gaming world for quite some time still, as they multi-core brethren just wont be supported.

Edited by: Ask Jeeves on 05/12/2006 02:18:14 yeah maybe, but core 2 is meant to be the best gaming processor around and it beats every other processor in gaming benchmarks. most people who are getting new machines are buying these processors atm, and pre-built systems company's are supplying them in their top gaming machines, which must mean its the way forward for gaming. I dont mean to be rude or anything, your probably right anyway. i dont really know how these things work, but maybe dual core processors win even if the game aint multithreaded? quake 4 runs great on my machine, not that im that kean to play it. _______________________________________

Could running 2 clients benefit from Dual core or Sli in any way? Ie assign each client to its own core.

Edited by: Ask Jeeves on 05/12/2006 02:23:28 yeah possibly, i remember reading about people doing that on Eve with two accounts, and it running smoothly and the same as if you just had one.
probably not for sligh though. i dont know how sligh works, but for the dual core u can assign each client to a sepearte processor through the task manager _______________________________________

How would you run the two clients? One or two monitors? If you run two monitors, you can't run SLI (so says my latest Nvidia drivers). If you run one monitor, then you've either got an monitor with insane resolution or you've got one client on top of the other. In the first instance, SLI might help. In the second, it's only ever rendering the one client, so you wouldn't see any performance increase.
On a side note, anyone running a dual 7950gx2 setup? Just looking to verify that if I buy the second gx2 that I'll be able to run both cards with the oncard SLI enabled but the betwixt-card SLI disabled and still run multiple monitors. Logically, I should be able to do this, but I don't really want to buy the second card if that doesn't work.

i really doubt that the second card would give any boost in this game. dont buy it if your mainly doing it for this game as from what ive heard this game wont gain anything from sli. i may be totaly wrong though _______________________________________

TBH I'm just gonna wait for Kali 2 to hit, and build a new DX10 machine around Eve's Requirements.
