After playing since May - losing the odd cruiser and battleship along the way - I have finally managed to amass 200mill isk does this make me rich in evev terms or am I still a pauper - thoughts on a postcard please

yes as single players go I would call 200M lower upper class.
As corporations go your still a pauper.

damm and i thought i could get my apoc gold plated - its funny though when i first started playing some meere 6 months ago - 200 mill would have been god like

I made about 950m in minerals, in about 5 minutes.
Plus, I've accumulated about 120m.. so.. and I've still got all the minerals and about 60m in cash..
But compared to others I know.. I'm middle upper class :d

me too... i havent really made much money for the last 2 months, i just run around in my blackbird, kill haulers and get chased by fleets. have a nice 65mil isk and probably another 50-100mil in assets

Nah, probably one of the many people who mysteriously "quit" dumped off their 950M worth of duped minerals before "quitting" the game.

im yet to hit a million... iv spent over a million, but never had it at one time.. i was hoping to get high up then save and save for the new content! but ill have to do alot of mining ot get that far that quick lol

I learned something early in the game thank god. Selling ships is not worth your time in money. I have serious doubts that this game will ever have decent ship prices. The fastest way to make money right now is to strip mine and sell the minerals, and then sell battleship blueprint copies on the side. Mostly I'm taking making big money now, and fast. You will find that the richest people in the game are the ones that have access to systems with bistot 0-5 jumps from a station. Right now at this point in the game that doesn't really exsist since only baby roid exsist within those areas, but back when the belts were respawning daily you can bet that massive rare stockpiles were made.
Pirate players are also extreamly wealthy. Total up all the ships destroyed in some of the major hot zones in the game, count up all the fittings and cargo those people dropped and then turn around and sell it on the market for isk. A group of pirates can easily break 100 million on a weekend.
CCP from all of their statements recently are obviously aware and in the process of balancing methods of profit.

Minimize your losses and maximize your gains.
Don't buy a ship unless you can afford 2.
If you lose a 6m isk ship making 8m isk in bounties alone, you have not lost a 6m isk ship but gained 2m isk in profit.
Stop paying for ammo (saw that from another thread).
Insurance is your friend (not insurance fraud).
Know the area.
Why pay for a module you can go get yourself?
Bigger price doesn't always mean bigger profit in manufacturing.
Some loot is worth more if you don't recycle it for minerals.
Trade the work of others.
If CCP introduces something new, run like a rabbit with your ass on fire to get to it first 
No sarcasm (except for the last one). 0.0 space isn't the only place to find cruiser spawns. The good modules don't just drop from 50k pirates. Many people using the market allow for your to make profit simply by trading their work. Many people ignore 'small ticket' items because making 200k isk isn't as sexy as making 15m isk on the sale, often ignoring that 200k is for a profit margin of 75%-100% and in more volume than the 10%-20% on the 15m isk.

That's mostly a myth. Most pirate players don't become pirates until after they're extremely wealthy.
Having had a ship destroyed earlier today, my loot would have been:
4 Heavy Drones
200ish rounds of Phased Plasma Large
20ish Torps
10ish Cruiser Missiles
1 Energized Adapative Armor Plating
Figure out where the rest of the Tempest went. Don't forget the people that self-destruct specifically to deny pirates loot.
And provided you split that '100m on a weekend' work 5 ways among those the blockades involved, you come up with 20m per person. Which is chickenfeed for a weekend. I can pull 600k per hour at spawns in Empire space in a Rupture by myself.
