Edited by: CHAOS100 on 03/12/2006 22:31:34 Edited by: CHAOS100 on 03/12/2006 22:16:59 So with the new changes, will the 2005 style 1600mm plate small blaster setup be the choice over medium blasters? You wont be able to do tons of damage, but you will be able to have a better passive tank. I was looking at the test server, and the 1600mm gives over 2000 more armor, what about removing the repper and actually fitting out more plates.
Heres a new crazy setup: 5 small neutron II mwd, scram, web 1 reactor control, 1 EANM II, 2 800mm CC plates, 1 1600mm plate. Medium drones also, maybe 1-2 armor HP bonus rigs.
This gives a very high amount of armor, and it barely has any cap requirement. Perhaps you could remove a plate and fit 1-2 NOS.
edit: I just fought a vexor and while he nossed me dry, my drones killed him before I got to 75% armor. Discuss.

I had a 1600mm plate, 1 eanm, a DCU1, a medium repper and an rcuII in the lows MWD and 2x 2+ warp scramblers in the mids 2x Med Nos and 2x small neut in the Highs
This is an alt and has no gunnery skills to speak of and this set up was purely for holding our war opponant in place while someone else did the damage. The only time I've had it tested was against a drake. I ended up having to warp out as I ran out of cap and had to try and hold off on my repper so that my dcu would last! I managed to warp out with 8% structure left! I was able to hold him and tank his damage for about 2-3 minutes. (more likely 2.. felt like 10)
It was a chance engagement and I didn't have time to adjust the drones I had on board but I held his drake for a goodly while while I waited for a corp mate to arrive and start to hammer him. If I'd have been able to boost instead of having to use 2 warp scramblers I think I'd have held him and he'd have popped. As it was, he stopped firing when I left and docked while he was in armour. I think the 4+ warp scramble was over kill due to the penalties now, but like I said it was chance, and now I'll fit a booster and make sure I have drones loaded everytime I leave. lol
The point? With small guns I'm pretty sure it would have caused him a bit more bother than I did tonight. Heck, if I'd have fitted offensive drones, he'd be dead now. I had 7300 armour and he was hitting me for fun all the while with T2 hobgoblins as well till my mate arrived and distracted him somewhat. Sort of an impotent set up but it was fit for task and it was nice to know I could tank his drake for long enough to make a difference.

The only reason the small guns big plate Thorax setups worked was because you had 8 (pre-change) heavies to do you damage for you. Now you can fit med electrons and a plate too, and since your doing less than 150 dps with light blasters the bonus really does make a difference. ---

The small blaster setup was more due to having omgwtf damage from drones, which it doesn't really get now. Also while you'll live alot longer with those extra plates, you still face the problem of rather crappy damage, even with your drones, and you will have next to no range to work with to use your guns.
Personally I'd still go with medium blasters, a single plate and a rep and eanms but to each their own.

I tried to fight a shark with a pistol underwater once, and I'll be damned if he didn't laugh at me and eat me. Sharks need a ******* nerf. True story.
