The pilgrim will soon be broken as this nos nerf seems to be happening. To use neuts you need med cap booster, you will need a med armor rep.
To get them to fit you will need to drop a mwd for ab, making the pilgrim worse or fitting power grid rigs, which means you can no longer fit a 800mm plate, which makes the pilgrim even worse.
So your setup will look something like HI. 3 neuts which will cost you an extra 75 in pg compared to named nos(thanks nos nerf) MED ab (yep no longer a mwd) scram, web and or damps/tracking disruptors, med cap booster. LOW Med armor rep, some armor resistance
Rigs probably PG to fit a plate or upgrade ab to mwd.
So not only has the nos nerf taken away the pilgims cap weapon, it now is slower, has less of a tank and now realise on cap boosters to get anything done. In other words, close to useless.

why would you want three medium neuts?
the NOS when it drains with the nerf is still the same as the previous drain amount, just that it takes other things into consideration before draining, which determine whether it drains or not.
this equaled (with recon level 4) 10 energy drained roughly per second using an e50 medium NOS. So a setup that included two medium nos usually only drained 20 energy per second.
1 medium neut 50W infectious will nuke 324 energy with level 4 recon, divided by 12 seconds thats 27 energy nuked per second. So if you are trying to get the pilgrim at least NEAR to where it was before in terms of taking the enemies cap, one medium neut is all you need, and it accomplishes more than two medium NOS. And one booster would be able to sustain your medium armor repairer and your medium neut. 3 neuts NO, one NEUT yes...
So I am saying 3 medium neuts will nuke a targets cap so fast that it depends what you're really going for. If you solo hunting npcers, its always best to kill as fast as possible, give backup less chance to arrive in time, and the faster you kill the cap, the faster the armor goes down and the faster he dies.
Im just trying to show you that you dont need to put on 3 neuts for them to be as effective as 3 nos, because neuts are so more powerful, don't drain, but in the end the effect is the same on the target, whether you get the energy or not, his cap is gone.

One neut will drain more cap than 2 nos's. So if you were to go against a cruiser he will have less cap by % than yourself just because of the neut.

I can see how the neut setup will work great for draining it down. but once drained, how do you keep him empty without draining yourself completely aswell? iDrone |

Edited by: Aaron Mirrorsaver on 07/08/2007 15:57:22 he'll kep himself empty by running his own tank, and draining himself. plus once you hit zero, even his own hardeners will drain anything he has left.
depp, my point is you'll have to rely on cap injection to survive once the target and even before the target is out of cap.
could also engage only one nos, with all your modules to keep your cap up through most of the fight, then when you think his is about half, kill the rest of it with the neut and then turn on your cap booster. -- Greater Love hath no man than this; that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Mind telling me why you have a mwd on a cov-ops? You are wasting cap/pg/cpu on something you are never going to actualy use.

I was looking at the Pilgrim and i was thinking of using it for a different role then its intended for.
This is a gang only set up since you will not have a web or a scrambler.
High: Cloak and some guns. Med: 2x Sensor Dampners t2, 2x Jamers t2 and 1x MWD(MWD for tight situations where you need to escape or soemthing.) Lows: In here you would build a tank. Put rat spesific hardeners a plate or make it nano what ever suits you.
Drones: 5 Light ECM Drones, and 5 Medium Scout Drones for damage.
Basicaly i was thinking as a Jammer ship and support.
I didnt do calculations to see if it will al fit or if its gona work. I just had this idea of using the Pilgrim this way instead of cap draining. Since it has 5 Medium Slots i assumed it can be a good EW ship.
What do you guys think? will that kinda setup work?

I'll try your fitting, but im skeptical about that. It would be nice if you pew pew in fleet, but if you go around soloing i guess that the "traditional" fitting with nos/neuts would be better. ______

Well i tried, the jammers and the result wasnt what i expected, so im thinking of using dampners instead.
Is it a good idea to shield tank a pilgrim? 5 medium slots, i was thinking of using 2 dampeners and then 3 slots for shields and then use the lows to increase shield recharge rate or whatever and maybe put some Overdrives t2 so that i can travel fast cloaked? Think a shield tanked pilgrim for gang only warfare is viable? What type of setup would you guys fit for a shield tank? and what about rigs?

3 shield mods and 2 damps will prob get you killed. Damp ships rely on keeping the target(s) at range - without a mwd they'll close and you're toast: you'd be better off using the Lachesis tbh.
You could try a rack of guns - that sometimes comes as a suprise to your target as theyll try and orbit outside you neut range, then are often thrown as your guns open up, but its a short lived tactic.
For the time being my pilgrim is just used as a bigger cov ops frig, and I ferry stuff around with it. Its not really a combat capable ship unless you are lucky and find some hapless soul alone in a belt afk ratting.

still using my pilgrim, still getting success. (and no not against NON pvp fitted ships)
no problems. Prefer killing cap faster with neuts, and I used neuts before the NOS nerf.
if you think you were meant to fly around solo uncloaked and engage and wtfpwn things 1-1 (like you can fidn someone 1-1 without back up nearby anyhow,) then keep doing so and saying it sucks. If you use it like it was meant to, then it's just as good.

Edited by: Aaron Mirrorsaver on 26/10/2007 06:30:09 well finally, carebear stare guy posted the best available setup.
Its exact to mine, and it is what I have been pvping with since the nerf. Except I use 2 EANM II, instead of 1 and 1 dcu II. However, if you use a ship fitter, I believe he gets slightly more hit points using the dcu II. I avoid using DC on ships with little hull HP, I'd use it on ships with a lot of structure HP, carriers, BS, bc's.. etc...
if your in structure in a recon, with 1000 HP your dead :)
And my resists are like 75 average across the board, with the kin/therm pump , those two would be in the 80's.
You could also try 2 trimark armor pumps, to get 9000+ armor.
I currently do not use an MWD. Though I would fit it if required, but in an all recon gang with rapiers, I am more the tanking/dps guy.
my setup with recon 4
high: 2x 50w neuts, cloak
mid: 2x balmer 1x med chem booster 1x faint warp prohibitor 1x x5 web
low: 1x 1600mm, 1x MAR II, 2xEANM II, 1x Thermic II
no rigs.
With recon 5 I use a warp disruptor II.
Passive is best tank because if your out of cap, your armor doesn't melt like wet tissue.
In your setup verton, you have no web or mwd (unless I oops its 2a.m) how do you plan to keep them in your optimal when you decloak next to them?
edit: I said to you I wouldn't share this but with my corp members, even the carebear stare guy said he was reluctant to share his, the thing is not sharing but people complaining it was totally useless. And I am sure he isn't lying when he says his setup pwns.
Part of my reasoning is if everyone keeps saying it sucks and the pilgrim pilots stop buying, then the price goes down even further than 50 mil :) Good reasons huh? Let's hope not too many notice this nice fitting :)

Doesn't fit (PG, not CPU, I have Eng V, Elec V), cap isn't stable even w/ max skills.

Valid point. Most people are to busy trying to get away when I decloak. They usually don't even try to approach and get to their optimal range. You'll notice that I also have an ECM burst fitted. I have found this very useful because in addition to the tracking inhibitors, the ECM frequently breaks their lock, therefore lowering their DPS significantly.

I am confused by all these posts with no MWD, or even an AB. Are these all low-sec set ups you are listing? After flying the pilgrim since the first month they were out, I can say I have yet to find a set up that feels comfortable flying against my old targets.

no,
I am saying to you in the gang, with support, from other recons, the pilgrim doesn't need MWD. If a target or targets are long range webbed by a rapier, where is it going, people don't seem to realise either that each race recon were made to complament each other, complament each other's weaknesses and strengthen each other, and this is the idea behind my corp.
