New set of rules really made some very interesting combinations like the 4 Navy Vexors supported by a Damnation or a Huggin for stopping the ships dead and nano'd Machariel to bump them out. That last one was really hillarious and shows peoplehave a lot of sense of humor and are not afraid to show it. WTG.
What i didn't like at all was the commentators. Especially the comment from SpiralJunkie saying they know nothing about ASCN and the rest laughing and agreeing with him then immediately after that Ifni says morale is low in ASCN and the team will probably get shredded to pieces. WTF?!?!? You just said you know nothing about ASCN! They should do some actual research about the alliances they're commenting on and taht does not include sitting on the ass and telling people to do your work.
The video was very laggy for me even with nothing else running. Probably because 20k people were also watching ;)
So: Players.........thumbs up Commentators....thumbs down CCP.............WTG for creating such an excellent game

I did watch the video feed and the flood of "WTF!?!" comments on our internal chat channels that followed immediately after. Im sure he said: "Morale in ASCN is low" and not that it might be low.
Chris asked for comments on the tourney and i gave my view of it. No need to pick apart my comment
Why would a morale be low because we're at war? Is there any reason at all? It means that targets are coming to us to shoot. Hmmmm... If your assumption would be correct then at least half the alliances in this tourney would have low morale because quite a lot have active wars. AAA, RA, MC, Goonswarm, AXE, LV, BOB, XELAS, ATUK come to mind in a heartbeat. They are all at war be it 0.0 or empire with some other alliance(s). How come morale isn't low there? ASCN came in second in the 2nd tournament dispite being declared an underdog in nearly every engagement by the commentating team. (mainly the same people as this time) Yet still the commentators refuse to recognise the pvp abilities of our team. May it be because they don't like us? Impartiality is a key component of top notch reporting.
I would really like to see the commentators doing their job themselves and prepare for the event instead of asking other people to do their work. They had almost a year to gather information. Yet all they did was ask other people to do their work.
Taking pot shots at people that are not there ( John McCreedy comes to mind ) also shows a low standard of communication. To the commenting team:
Stop making fun of people that are not there. Make a joke on your own account if you must make fun of people. Treat all teams according to their performance and not personal preference. Next time you feel like saying something really stupid like morale being low because one of the sides is at war with some random one man corp pickup the glass and drink some juice to let other people say something sensible instead. Do your homework.
Oh and p.s. Drazila Uvera is a 21 days old member of Federal Navy Academy. Dude, grow a spine and post with your main or don't post at all. I'll uderstand if you posted with your alt by mistake. It's been known to happen. ;)
All in all... The commentators still have a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully they will use these 5 days to sharpen their performance. Im looking forward to another weekend of top notch pvp action.

Edited by: vipeer on 06/12/2006 16:37:32 Did you actually see how many alliance info they had. The folder had less than 10 post-its on it and, it'd say, that would be the amount of the alliances that bothered to submit the info. A quarter. That's how serious the EVE TV team was about gathering proper info. A FC who has 1/4 of the information will get his fleet slaughtered. They all come on EVE TV as experts at pvp so they should know that flying a quarter fitted ship into combat will only end in tears. Advice to SpiralJunkie for next year: Gather all the relevant info. Should be a prereq to enter the tourney anyway. Secondly: ASCN team won last 5 matches. The team went through the previous tourney all the way to the finals where it was undecided. Lost one or two AF during the whole tourney and if there were no time limit on the finals the ASCN team would have won because their tank was obviously unbreakable. Why would the morale be low then? ASCN team obviously is on a winning streak and not a loosing one. Calling me an idiot by itself warrants a reply. Idiot i am not. My post is supported by arguments and suggestions. Idiotic posts look like that: "m1 pwnzor Y00. U su3k. EVE TV is crap (insert random slander)...bla bla bla bla...bla" My post is far from that. It is true im not an expert at pvp but still good enough to kill a Vindicator in a 1 vs. 8 enemies fight. English is also not my first language so im sorry for any grammar mistakes. Reasons for not submiting alliance information are unknown to me. We have one person designated to deal with such things and if it was his decision not to submint alliance info i have full confidence in his decisions. I guess submitting info would only give the commenting pannel more targets to shoot at... so he decided against it. I agree with you that whining about bad recruitment possiblities due to slander is just that. Whining. If someone wants to join an alliance he should get info himself and decide for himself. We keep mentioning it so it will be clear that morale in ASCN is not low as some people would like it to be but riding high on the Valkyries bringing death and destruction to our enemies. Other people are also telling Spiral to cool it and come up with intelligent jokes rather than mindless slander. The rail crow was actually a rocket crow. It was a tossup between rockets and light missiles. Our pilot decided to use rockets while BoBo pilot decided to go with light missiles. We all know how that turned out
The point of my post was to give constructive criticism supported by arguments i deem solid enough to use and ended with a suggestion on how i think EVE TV team should aim to improve their performance.
Oh, ASCN team was voted a looser into every match in the previous tournament but they came on top. BoBo team was supposed to shred Kozak and the rest to pieces. No such thing happened and yet one year later the ASCN team is again declared an underdog. I for one am at best suprised about the lack of reality grasp, while not voicing my other, more sinister concerns.
All in all the fights are fun to watch. If only the comment would be on par with the pvp performance this show would be a real candy to watch. Sadly the state of affairs is bias to put it bluntly. I really hope the EVE TV team will use all these threads pouring on them this week and find a grain or two of gold in them to enhace their performance. We'll see on Friday.
Edit: found a spelling error
