Cant be in two places at the same time, jumping back though would cause an arriving before you left and you're simply not allowed to do that.

got killed by the locals before you could collapse their hole? The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

What actually happened is that you blinked.
During that long interval of blinking your eyelids, you actually did jump through the gate. A Quantum singularity happened to be in your approach spot. You entered it and were instantly transferred back to your point of origin just before the jump.
The Stargate code, not being able to cope with the sudden re-appearance of your ship which it had recorded as "just sent through", went into "fumble" mode and slapped an extended timer on your ship. This prevents the AI aboard the Stargates from going stark-raving mad and thus crashing.
Other than that, I too have had the same thing happen to me on more than one occassion. It's a fail-jump. Code needs time to reset and recover.

This seems to happen when you jump between 20 and 30 seconds after jumping last. i.e. seems the session change timer is buggy.
It's happening to me in WH space, not Kspace. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Had this happen when moving around in a really fast ship the other day. In K-space. On a gate, not a wormhole. |

This instability during jumping has happened to me too.
I bet this is causing hell for the macro hauler out there as you need to click "Ok" to get focus back on eve UI. I wonder if CCP is trialing a sort of macro defence.
If this is the above then CCP just needs to randomise the location and colour of the message box to beat the OCR bots out there.
Or it could just be a session change timer bug :)

Getting this occasionally, too. Any chance of a dev comment?
It's particularly bad that it shows up as a pop-up you have to click to dismiss.
EDIT: Got it again, and checked. It's actually a modal dialog. Pretty bad if you are reapproaching in combat. What happens in lowsec, stays in lowsec, lowering the barrier to entry to lowsec PVP: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=476644&#post476644 |

consider for a moment that CCP actually replaced the "session change in progress" message that you get when you try to activate a gate inside your 30 second session change window, with a message that is somewhat more specific.
yes kids, its a new error message. Deal with it
and I'm slightly confused, I thought the station session change timer was reduced, but I didn't think the gate timer got changed and AFAIK it is still 30 seconds The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

All session timers were supposed to be 20s now. If there's a stealth extra 10s, that's bad. Especially as the new error message is modal. What happens in lowsec, stays in lowsec, lowering the barrier to entry to lowsec PVP: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=476644&#post476644 |

well I never actually timed the little timer gizmo, so it could be 20, point is its a new message replacing the crappy old one

Look at all these shitposters.
It would be nice if CCP could actually explain what is happening here because it isn't the traditional messages about session change timers, or systems not being ready. (a¦á_a¦â) ~ Get Out, Nasty Face ~ (a¦á_a¦â)

Agreed. When it was said the session change timer would be changed to 20 seconds I thought it actually meant that. Sure the session change timer now shows 20 seconds but I still cant jump after that time has passed. This new error message isnt really preferable to the good old "session change already in progress". |

I can't say I've had that issue I got it last night while trying to jump while the timer graphic was still up it let me jump when the timer ended
I did not pull out a stopwatch

So I timed the message.
First time I got it it was only about 5 seconds after the session change timer finished.
Second time I had to wait a whole minute before I could jump.
So it doesn't seem to be a set time??? |

most definitely have not encountered this in all my travels
could it be a consequence of time dilation?

I've had this issue after short warps between gates in sparsely populated null-sec. It's happening reasonably often and it doesn't seem to matter whether the target system has 0 or 30 other pilots in it. |
