Okay, I'm going to tell you about TWO events that I experienced lately!
One was a week or so ago, in Amamake, gate to Osbog. I WTZ to the gate (coming from Derelik), and BOOYEAH, overview lags up with names! I could only do my best to r-click and jump the gate, and the last thing I saw before I left was a lot of corpses, in the overview that is. I don't know for sure, but I THINK they had smartbombs. And by GOD, what a hellish amount of them!
Second one was just yesterday, or day before, when I got my second podding in three months. I bet there were at least twenty ships near some no-sec gate, but WTZ (I thought!) saved me and my little Belli (don't comment, please).
They followed me, though...
I had set a destination, travelling to all the yellow gates, and it... JUST so happened that I arrived at my destination when I jumped that camped gate. This equalled not being sure where the heck to go. Woooooops. Long story short, I think there were around 15 names on that killmail. My ship+fittings was about 5 mil (implants about 6 mil), but I bet they sprayed at least 1 mil worth of ammo on me. 
Yakoff laid the final blow on both Belli and pod (I think he was in some tiny ship, shooting with several 125mms, JUST to get final blow. ;))'
So how'bout you? Got blown up by a ganksquad?

and the answer to the op is yes, pretty much everyone who has ever left high sec has been ganked, and some that haven't left have been ganked too

boy, if they could put as much effort into life as they do into killing someone in a game, imagine how successful they would be. Hell, look at the innovative mind of ginger magician, that boy would definitely go somewhere if he put his cleverness into reality as much as he does into cheating CCP.

Biggest camp I have ever been in was in N-rael about 3 months ago when we knew the goons were about to invade.
I have never seen that many ships in one place before.
I cant give exact numbers but there were about 200 in the gang. Hmmm...between 100 and 120 BS and a crapton of support. Overkill? You bet.
It wasent planned, it just started and then kind of kept on growing until it became a monster.
A sight I will never forget is when 1 single enemy BS jumped into us, intel said the main enemy fleet was on the other side so I suppose the poor guy forgot to turn off auto-pilot.

Most impressive gatecamp for me (in a rax) was once provided by TCF in 0.0, including bubble, tacklers and lots of damagedealers. DidnŠt even see my pod in space before waking up in the cloning station... :D

biggest gatecamp i ever saw was fa vs atuk (its on one of atuks videos... if u watch the damage messages on the top of the screen you'll see me scrambling a cargo container cos im a dumbass)
..... i dont know how many there were cos the screen only refreshed once every 3 seconds
lag-tastic and i was one of the ones camping (in my merlin ... raaar)

I was at the ASCN/BoB/5 party in EC-P8R a while back. We didn't just lock down a gate with 150 people, we locked down a system with 600.
oddly enough the lag wasn't horrific.

EC-P8R was definitly the biggest and longest camp ever :P
3 days and always between 200-600 people in the system.
