Just got this link off one of my corpmates, and its proof (if you needed any) that the US legal system is totally totally nuts. Have even seen stuff on BBC news about it.

basically, Congress and the IRS are debating when to start taxing online curency, with them even being included on the stock exchange. even though it'l be funny to see a news presenter annouce the value of isk is down two points at the closing of the days trading its still totally nuts.
personally, i can see the point with games where its allowed to 'cash out' assets on ebay or whatever, cos people are just getting round gambling laws etc. but on games like eve where you're not allowed to its dumb as you'd have to risk getting banned for it to have any value whatsoever.
we could all prob make a fair bit of money as a rent boys/girls if we wanted, does this meen ill have to pay butt-tax because my a-hole has the potential to make money if i broke the law and sold it on ebay? does the estimated escrow value and tax lvl of my butt decrease or increase everytime i take a dump? Would i have to pay extra tax on food because its part of my potential butt transactions?
Looks like they'l have to give game manufacturers the choice of allowing their hypothetical cash to be cashed out into dolars and taxed, or not allowed and make the process of selling isk etc actually illegal in the same way as trading any other curency without a liscence. (5 year prison sentence for macro mining wouldnt upset me). seems to me that it's gonna open up a whole hornets nest of rl law into the online world. Can't wait to see the first US lawsuit where someone gets put in prison for manslaughter after some total geek tops themselves after they got their inty full of t2 bpo's blown up

There is one thing I found good about WoW, the autolocking of threads with all caps in the title...

This has been dragged up more then 1000 times.
Read the EULA, there is clearly states that all isk, items etc ingame are the property of CCP so this has no effect what so ever on EVE players. Since you don't own it no one can tax it. Same goes for all the real gamer games (WoW, FoM, EQ2 etc).
That "lawchange" that is propped is to go up against "real money MMOGs" and online poker sites where you actually have real life value in the in game stuff.

this would only affect games that allow the exchange, such as second like of project entropia, just as you cannot tax investments until you actually recieve a dividend.
the eve-online EULA specifally forbids the exchange of ingame items or currency for real world currency. and technically doing so could be considered an illegal enterprise.
