My Favorite book of all time period, I loved it and to this day I dont know why it is that it hit home for me so hard. But it did and its beautifully written so well worth a read if you're a fantasy fan

Absolutely loved that trilogy, one of the few series where I've been unable to read anything for a week or so afterwards, because my mindset has still been fixed in the world Robin created. Currently got the three Tawny Man books on order, aswell, so I can follow on from the Assassin trilogy! 
Currently reading Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time", first book......have heard all the reviews about how it gets long-winded and boring in the later books, but would prefer to find out for myself.
A few other authors (of varying genres) to mention (I'd list books, but I'd like to get at least some sleep tonight):

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever
The best fantasy story I have ever read, bar none. The books have some of the best characters sa well. Couldn@t recommend it more.

Good Omens - Terry Pratchett

I'm not usually a detective story fan but I really enjoyed: The Vanished Man by Jeffery Deaver.
Nearly anything by Ian Banks for some quality Sci Fi writing.
Robert Jordans Wheel of time is a bit of a strange one. The series is pretty good at the start but over time it drags on a bit.
One of the worst was book 10 (Cross Roads of twilight) where throughout the whole book basically bugger all actually happened. The next one was better though and with any luck the final book (still to be finished) will make for a good ending.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it.

Ian Banks and Dan Simmons for the moden sci fi.
Azimov for the older stuff
Ed Mcbain for the detective (namely the 87th precinct stories)
And Terry Pratchett and the late but great Douglas Adams for the wierd and funny.
There are others but they are the consistant ones.
Edit : Clive Barker for the twisted stuff you only dared to think of.

Neal Stephenson
The Diamond Age, Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, Baroque Cycle (Quicksilver, The Confusion, The System of the World)
The first 2 are just good sci-fi/cyberpunk, Crypto is multiple storylines across different generations all heading toward a single point, and the last 3 are just awesome tales of piracy, economics and the insaity of the Baroque era.

i will read toyminator some time its on the to read list
some people have mentioned the Robert Jordan - Wheel of Time books, ive read these, and i think they have all been good. but then again i love anything stupidly long and epic.

I liked them but i think they pale in comparison to the "prince of nothing" series in the same genre.

1. The Stand- great book, first story i ever read by S.K.
2. A Wrinkle In Time- madeline L'engel ftw, even though its a book for a younger audience, i have read this about 50 times, and love it even more everytime i read it.
3. Tales From The Bounty Hunters- starwars book of short stories, from u guessed it, the bounty hunters and man does it rock

I love Pratchett and Adams..Spider Robinsons books are along that vain and are very enjoyable ..But Stranger in a Strange land was amazing. That and Enders game should be required reading for all 13 year olds...(age i was) Anyone who likes Pratchett should read Night Watch..Different than his usual style, more serious and VERY VERY GOOD...Also the Darkness series mentioned above By Harry H Turtledove..Amazing series..hell icould go on and on..Adventures of the Stainless steel rat anybody.??LOL

I'd agree on both counts. In defense of the movie, however, considering the book is longer than War and Peace, I'm quite thrilled with the result. Yes, sucks compared to the book, but it's a, "Oh crap, who's the moron who thought of doing this?" level suck as opposed to say, a Peter Jackson level suck.

Absolutely, I haven't read any of those books in many many years. Excellent stuff.
Also I love the Necroscope series of books.
Also the first 3 Wilt books, the 4th wasn't anywhere near as funny.
Also I've almost finished reading I, Luciferand of course it's too early to say it'll stand the test of time, but i can recommend it whole heartely.
