Edited by: Xaviar Onassis on 06/12/2006 12:54:21 Edited by: Xaviar Onassis on 06/12/2006 12:50:13 First off, I'm new to pvp, new to 0.0 and have no clue about how to set up a ship to be good against people. I'm an ex-carebear-mission-runner who's moved to 0.0 for a bit of a laugh, to blow some of the money I made carebearing and mission-running and maybe learn a bit about how to do pvp.
Last night, I slipped back into carebear mode and tried to bring an iteron IV full of marketable toys from empire to 0.0. On my own. With no scouts, escort or tank. Yes, it wasn't the smartest idea I've ever had, but Warp to 0 and a t2 cloak made me over-confident.
Needless to say, as soon as I hit 0.0 I was locked and scrambled by some less-than-friendly folks and paid a substantial ransom to be let on my way.
Having reached my destination and shoved the toys on the market, I hopped into a convenient Domi and went back to ask for my money back.
Those negotiations were interrupted by the arrival of eight or so new hostiles from [VETO.] and I left in my pod. (Grats on the pair of db heavy nos I should have known better to take into pvp that weren't on the killmail.)
Anyway, my question is this: Is it considered bad form (or criminallyl stupid) to return to people that have received ransom from you and ask for it back?
The original pair weren't in [VETO.] and I've no idea if they're associated or not, but I don't think the gank squad's arrival was connected with my return. I had a smack-free convo with one of the originals afterwards and he didn't seem to be too upset or surprised that I'd tried. Of course, he was also pretty happy that the domi went boom...
My attitude at the moment is: catch me with my pants down and I'll pay your ransom, but I'll make one try to get it back afterwards if I can. [Edit: I like that so much it's now my sig ]
I'm not into long-held grudges or smack-talking or making a nuisance of myself, and I'm fully prepared to lose combat ships in the attempts, but am I just going to bring more trouble on my head than I can cope with?
Let me know what you think, please.
Xav --- Catch me with my pants down and I'll meet your ransom demand. I'll also promise not to try to take it back more than once or twice... |

I don't see a problem with that tbh. i wouldn't object if someone did that to me. in fact i'd praise them for showing courage at coming back.

If you return back for your money back good for you, but don't expect for them not to kill you either. A ransom is normally only to let you go not for a permanent safe passage, if thats what your after then you might want to ask for it and it might not come cheap.

Sure, go for it but it's hard to get back at them and it's hard to get past the other people on the way especially if you don't have much pvp experience and are solo.
But the whole concept is brave and I will definitely give you an applause if you do this successfully.

No, I'm not after safe passage, just the one-off release.
If I'd been in a combat-worthy ship, I'd have fought them, but there's not a lot to do in an iteron IV with its only high slot full of t2 cloak once you're locked and scrammed... --- Catch me with my pants down and I'll meet your ransom demand. I'll also promise not to try to take it back more than once or twice... |

Depends on if the corp in question has a refund sytem enabled.
I suggest you write to their CEO and complain that you feel you recieved bad service. Point out that you did not feel sufficiently terrified and traumatised. DEMAND either that they refund you or give you your next 2 gankings free of charge. Threaten a lawsuit if need be.
Or mail one of the VETO guys, I am sure they can point you to the proper complaint form which you should fill in and return. In triplicate with an official stamp of course...

My guys in the thick of it again I see.
When I was ransoming (Mainly low-sec) I usually gave them 24 hours (if they were nice) before I shot them again, However some only give you until the end of their aggression timer so watch out.
Going back and seeking revenge is great as long as you can keep your cool, Some people go back in their Vindicators fully faction fitted or whatever and end up dying and leaving the game, which isn't good.
Basically, I'd say to let yourself get to know the 0.0 way of life cheaply first, learn the ropes and then maybe experiment with BS's and the like, get yourself an organised 0.0 based corp and you might be onto a winner.

It definitely shows some ball balls to go back and try to get your cash back, nice!
The bottom line here is... if you were a "ransom-ee", who's to stop you being a "ransom-er" ? Hehehe.

The original two were unconnected with our corp, as far as I'm aware the fact that the roaming gang my pilots were in came across you was pure coincidence.
We've been patrolling the area you were killed in for some time now.
If you'd like the to buy the two Dark Blood Heavy Nosferatus back at a decent discount price, you're free to contact me in game providing they're still in the corp's posession, which I think they will be.
It just seems as though you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As for your question, it's not bad form at all to go back for your money if you want to try and take the people on that ransomed you, I've had many a fight with people who've come back for revenge and a lot of civil conversations with them afterwards.
Eve is free form, the choice is yours.

Yeeh, bring the fight on, makes life much more fun for everyone :)
Just make sure the length of time they are letting you go for has passed before you attack tho - that would be a bit bad form (although it could be sort of funny).

I have to say this a lot :P
Actions speak louder than words, just do it or don't, otherwise you end up performing some "softcore smack"

Since when did anyone "need" a reason to kill you in 0.0?
So some Veto guys show up and waste you. It's apparently what they do - and they don't seem to have a rhyme or reason for it.

I assume you meant you were going to ransom them back for the money you paid them earlier which would be great, not to mention lots of fun for you if you pull it off :) Nothing wrong with trying to get your money back :D
**** happens tho :P or in this case Veto happened ^^

Thanks for all the replies.
Verone, I'll be in touch as soon as I can get online (probably Friday) to talk about the DB heavy nos. Note that I don't have alts, so anyone else claiming to be me and after a cheap pair is being naughty .
DefJam101, I wasn't intending any kind of smack, not even soft-core, and did point out that I'd had a smack-free convo with one of the original pair (who I've refrained from naming for the same reason). Point taken, though I'd gladly self-destruct my pod rather than engage in smack of any kind... besides, I went after them in a domi and lost it, that's action, not words. Ineffective and expensive action, I'll grant you .
Agent Li, I don't have a problem with what happened and wasn't trying to whine, complain or cry "greifer". Verone do what they do and if my one experience of them is anything to go by, they did it very well: first thing I knew, my drones started taking damage while I was trying to lock down one of my two targets, next thing I'm in hull with no cap, no locks and franticly spamming the "warp to" button in the hope of saving my pod...
DarknessInc, sorry, I wasn't trying to stroke my e-peen, just wanted to make sure there wasn't some convention I was unaware of about the expected behaviour of ransomees in case my actions would heap grief and strife on me. It appears that most of respondants think I did the right thing, even if I did it badly, so that's good enough for me --- Catch me with my pants down and I'll meet your ransom demand. I'll also promise not to try to take it back more than once or twice... |
