I've ransomed a guy, waited out my 15 min flag timer and docked to drop off some loot, undocked scanned a ship in a belt and warped in and seen it was him, still in the same system, and ransomed him again, then seen him 2 systems away 3 hours later and ransomed him again.
He was let go all three times, and learned a lesson.
I ransomed a guy once, he paid me 50 mil to save his hulk, then I proceeded to shoot him into hull... then I ransomed him for more... he gave me another 50mil... then I blew him up.
I'm so uber.
You're filth.

I assumed as much.
A problem for pirates is that anyone ransomed and then popped will immediately assume that it was "pirates" when it could be any old asshat or someone out to blacken (or is that blacken further) pirates rep.
In times of doubt I ask myself "What would BoB do?", and then do the opposite. |

Hmm.. Interesting topic..
Good debate.. However i disagree with most of you....
If a person is ransoming someone, it is totally up to that person wether or not he wants to accept the ransom and let it go, or just pop it anyway :)
You say he is giving ransoming a bad name? Why the heck should we trust you anyway? :)
I never pay ransoms of over the amount semi-equal to what i can spare.. It doesnt really matter what ship im in or what fitting.. PAying a ransom is just a wager.. Sometimes he is honorable, other times he isnt. You choose, i choose, we all choose.. IF we _KNEW_ he would let us go, it wouldn't really be "pirating" now would it? :P

Well I sometimes let em go without ransoming (I mean I have a piwate alt). But the most funny thing about that pirating affair is that everyone hates you while having this firm statement - "you are ****er because you steal my ISK or pwn my ship while I'm flying in lowsec while being totally aware of the dangers".
To be frank ransoming the same guy 5 times in the same hour is crappy, but you need a peson to learn once and for all, that stepping into the same poo is a mistake, before that person loses smth of large value.

Well, I'd only ransom and release a person once....if I ran into them again, I'd just like to see WHY they're willing to pay the ransom...
Of course, these two encounters wouldn't be right after one another, you gotta be sporting about the whole thing. It's a game, and nobody likes people being *******s to them (pew pew aside) when they're trying to have fun.

I dont know how other pilots do it. but i usually charge 60-70% of the ships current market price for ransom. T1 Cruiser or below i usually just pop. i dont make enough money off it.

I once got ransomed in a slightly faction fitted Arby Ferox months and months ago.
A Apoc, Rifter and something else warped into the belt I was in, and before I could get away, I got tackled and beaten into hull, however I asked politely for a ransom, and they said 8mil - I didnt have 8 mil, but my Ferox was worth alot - I borrowed the money from a friend and paid, 10 minutes after they had left, I held my word, they held theirs.
Sometimes it pays to be ransomed. Izo Azlion.
