Wow.... usually, when somebody goes off on a rant, I can find at least one or two points that I can at least identify with, even if I don't go so far as to agreeing.
This is one of the few occasions where I've looked at the original post and thought: "What the hell is this guy smoking?"
Contracts: more versatile, more personal, easier, more customizable and easier to browse than the escrow system. downside: takes a little getting used to if you basically LIVED on escrow all your time in EVE.
The map: bloody awesome. I don't care if it's a little slower to activate, the sheer sparkly COOLness of zooming out like that makes it worthwile, and I still get a little thrill when I see it happen, or when I see the stars neatly shift out of alignment in the sky and form the EVE stellar cluster. Plus, the system map is a stupidly useful tool for fleet ops. and it sure as buggery isn't dark, either.
Now, I'm afraid I don't know anything about research. I'm not interested in it. Nor, frankly, am I interested in the way people rant about the price, or how it's somehow "unfair" that some players (I hasten to add) PLAYERS are driving the price up.
now, the market in EVE was created by design to be a forum where players can compete, much like the real world. prices are determined by three things - profit margin, demand, and availability. tech 2 ships cost more to produce than regular ships, are in constant high demand, and are of limited availability. As a result of this, the so-called "Tycoons" can and DO get away with asking a lot for them. However, that is their right as players, and frankly the only thing that would upset me over this issue would be if CCP stepped in and set up some inviolable universal law that forcibly limited the price on these things. This isn't WoW, where an item has a fixed price that is determined by the NPCs. No, this is EVE, which has a dynamic market economy, and if players want to follow unethical or greedy business practices, then that is their prerogative and CCP should not intervene unless the players in question are breaching the EULA. It's corporate piracy, and space piracy is a valid game tactic in EVE.
If you don't like it, fly tech 1 instead.
