I am referring mainly to marines, although other fighters exist. At present I have approximately 10 legions at my disposal. There doesn't seem to be much need for troops these days, so I'm gathering what I can in the hope that there will be a price spike when faction warfare eventually hits (if anyone else has a reasonably large collection, I would probably be interested in purchasing it - contact me ingame).
I really like the idea of fighting pitched battles inside stations and would love to be able to use troops somehow - it would be interesting if they could be used as part of a process of capturing structures. Does anyone else sympathise with this quaint but rather pointless idea?

I had a station idea about using marines (and slaver hounds, and, well everything) to do just that. Then I read about the dev blog here

about them working on walking around in station.
So i guess CCP is doing somethinga, but the marines in industrial idea will probably be passed by.
A shame, especially because all those flavor items have so much potential.

Perhaps when planetary interaction gets implemented you can find use for them. I think there was something on drawing board about that. Would be propably cool to find use for all those passengers, as long as it does not turn into SIM's clone.
It's however question of it's own if they indeed should sit in your hangar for years being your 'property' - most factions dont allow slavery. If there comes possiblity to use them for something they should start taking some resources also. I would not mind owning my own battalion of heavy infantry.
Perhaps use them to take ower POS towers if shields are gone.

Yes, I like the idea of using these marines, but I would like my janitors to repackage things for me. I would also like a stocktrader to buy and sell my equipent for the best prices, and my rookie pilots to take out my industrials and fly to Jita on my behalf...
