I appreciate that. Are you aware that (to the best of my recollection) studies have shown that it takes 27 positive statements to a person to overcome a single negative statement (or something like that)?

I never said I hate new players. I dislike new players who whine about features without any thought for the established playerbase - that's how we ended up with WTZ. It's pretty much accepted by everyone with two brain cells to rub together that scan probing missions is too easy ATM and it's going to be changed by the devs - they've said so.
However, EVE isn't a consentual game in any respect. Just because you're in high-sec or a newb doesn't change that. ___

Since you seam to have some knowledge of playing MMO's then your aware that their forums are, mostly, a poor representation of their actual players. While you call us "elitist" in reality we're just defending the reason's why we play and love Eve. Your 100% correct that Eve has a very steep learning/starting curve, and we like it that way. It scares off all the ADD kids that don't have the intelligence/will to actually apply themselves to the game. Eve isn't a game where you can run around doing what you want with zero impact on/from other players, and we like it like this. Eve has a mainly adult player base, we don't want to be coddled or have our hands held or any of the other things that mainstream games do. Your best bet would be to find a player corp that suits what your looking to do in game as Eve really doesn't get off the ground for new players till they do. Your 100% correct that Eves' vets are cold towards new players, because most of them come here, spend 14 days trying the game, find that it's a great game, but want this and that changed to fit their playstyle. Thats what ****es off the vets more that anything, you either accept what Eve is or find find another game that fits your playstyle better.

I don't agree that "It's pretty much accepted by everyone with two brain cells to rub together that scan probing missions is to easy ATM. . . ". I have seen specific posts in the large thread about this subject that state it is a completely fair method to curtain the mission running in "highsec" areas.
I cannot comment on change in game mechanics specifically because I haven't played the game before Revelations came out. I have no idea what it was like before that. How can I reasonably be asking for changes to new features when I have no context for what the game was like before the latest expantion?
What I CAN comment on is the fact that there is a high difficulty to get started in the game and the interference with a method that I have found to aid in overcoming this difficulty by veteran players. I come to the forums to find a way to counter-act this interference with missions and find that not only does there appear to not be a good way to counter-act this but some existing players seem to relish this aspect of gameplay.
Yes, I am aware that forums are not necessarily the greatest method of judging a playerbase. I have not however, encountered such an open "we don't like new players" attitude before. This directly counters the idea that "EVE is for adults". Most adults I know and have played with aren't stubborn contraries who fight against those that show disdain for them just to prove them wrong. This especially applies to matters concerning games they play in their spare time.
Most adults I have played with would see open hostility to them, as new players, and simply respond with the attitude "I don't have time to overcome such hostility just to play a game." They certainly aren't going to bother when this hostility is coupled with overcoming the complexity of the game; which they may like but they still have to spend additional limited spare time to do.
My biggest concern when I started looking at EVE was that it was too "hard-core". I had heard this from others who had played the game. In fact, that evaluation is what had prevented me from trying it as long ago as 2004. My friend and I have been looking for a new game lately and we decided to go ahead and examine EVE. We don't want to waste our time on a game that has too high an entry barrier (we had tried a game just before EVE that we quit before our first paid month was up because the veterans of the game had a complete lock on resources to make items in the game that were required).
As "adult" as they may be, I don't think EVE players realize the impact their comments have on people looking to find out if EVE is a game they want to play.

If this is in response to my post, I think your reading way to much into the cold shoulder your getting. it's not that we don't like/want new players to join Eve. We're just after a certain type of players.
Quote: Most adults I have played with would see open hostility to them, as new players, and simply respond with the attitude "I don't have time to overcome such hostility just to play a game."
The hostility isn't because their new players. It's because they can't or don't want to use; the tools that are already in game, or the gray matter in their heads to mitigate the fact that they will have to deal with other players that don't have their best interests in mind. To that effect Eve is "hard-core" and we don't want that to ever change
If you read the 40+ page thread about mission's and being scanned out and have "two brain cells to rub together" it should be apparent that somethings not right. Hell the fact that it's a 40+ page thread should say something. And with a little more research you'd find that theres a patch coming on the 13th that will address this along with some other things.
Quote: "we had tried a game just before EVE that we quit before our first paid month was up because the veterans of the game had a complete lock on resources to make items in the game that were required."
The great thing about Eve is that you can build up a force and take those resources from the vets without having to be a vet to do it, just the will and the brains.
And finally I think we know exactly what impact our comments have on new players. There is no hand holding in Eve, not from the Dev's and not from the players. Don't like it find another game to play, period. -------------------------------- As a Freelancer...scratch that Originally by: Shar Tegral Stop projecting your out of game beliefs of what society should be upon the rest of us.

people in eve have no problems with new players (every one here was a new player once upon a time)
a lot of corps give people ways into 0.0 and to pvp, mine is amongst them (something i personaly spent a lot of time and effort to set up..so if your stipulations on the eve player base is right...why would i do this?)
what people in eve do not like, have never like nor ever will like, are the players who come in wanting 0 interaction, 0 risk. claiming they liked the look of eve and from the first moments of entering the game, do their best to try and change it to their idea of a caerbear heaven. it is this attitude and not the activitys of people who try and take part in the game which people do not like..and it is thie activity which in fact creates this hostility.
so in short
new player ok industrial player ok mission runners who take part in the game i.e. the mmo part ok pvp ok pirate ok
Whiner not ok solo players who want to change eve to suit themselves not ok caerbears (people who fear risk and try to change the game so they dont face any) not ok
