Why EvE rocks...
I want to start a thread for those of us who are enjoying our play time to post some of the finer things about the game that we appreciate. There are of course things I dont particularly care for, but even those I find add to my enjoyment.
1. Watching flashing through warp together, all in unison. I feel "The Flight of the Valkyries" should be part of the in-game music for times like this.
2. People complain of low population in 0.0...It is space. Space is big. I like it being lonely, as the vast expanse of space should be.
3. Over-crowded in high sec? It is the hubs of "humanity" it should be crowded. I dont go to New York or London and expect a lot of elbow room...I save that for Montana or the Sahara.
4. "I can help too even as a newb" In the galactic "paper, rock, scissors" of EvE, even my ship can make a difference in combat.
5. I can be as challenged as I feel like being. If I want to take a cruiser and PvE in 0.0, rock and roll. If I want to fly a BC in 1.0 ratting I can. If I want to look for a fight, I can. If I want to avoid PvP, I can.
6. No other game I know of allows me to improve my character while I am at work during the day. All MMORPGS are about "the Grind" CCP cut out the "level grind" and now we just have the "isk" grind.
7. You dont have to be rich. You dont >have< to grind isk constantly. I make enough ratting in 0.0 once or twice a week to keep me in ships and ammo as I see fit.
8. Need a break from the war you are stuck in? Hop a shuttle 30 jumps away. Instant RnR. If a war target finds you...then they deserve to pop you.
9. I care about my ships. I earned the isk for them. When I lose one I am a little upset. I feel the loss. Reminds me of my old MUD days when you die, get full looted, and start at the temple. Losing matters. Losing hurts. I love it.
10. EvE rewards "smart" playing generously. EvE punishes "stupid" playing harshly.
11. I love the feeling of surviving two major fleet engagements in one day. Watching my kills get added to. Knowing that I helped in a victory.
12. I loved squaring off against an enemy fleet with my RL brother, both ships on my screen, watching the torpedos spash against his shields, and fighting a delaying action while the rest of our fleet came in for the kill. Its fun being bait when you end up eating the fish.
13. Alliances. I love knowing that my character is a small part, in a bigger part, that is in a huge part. I am not a cog in the wheel, I am a bolt in the fuselage.
14. I dont understand 90% of the game, and still play well at what I do. I have no idea how to build things. I have no idea how to work as a trader. I dont even know how to get all those missions people always talk about making isk. But I do know about ratting, some about mining, and some about PvP and Fleet work. I am a combat pilot for now, and I am happy with that.
15. I may want to be a miner next week...or an industrialist after Christmas. Re-roll? Nope.
16. I have never played a game where getting "WTFBBQPWNED" can be "fun".
17. Space is dirty, cold, and unforgiving. Acts of kindness are few and far between. You want kindness, go to WoW. Those other pilots in local want my stuff. They want to kill me for it. They dont care what I had to do to get it. In fact, they want me to suffer.
18. The only safe point is in a station. And then you are stuck.
19. Ship selection. Dont like how a ship looks? Dont fly it. Love a certain ship? Make it your baby and learn its skills the best you can. You only have some 200 or so to pick from. Oh...and dont think that Ferox on screen is the same as the one you fought last week.
20. Want to be a carebear? You still have to grow claws, or at least a rock hard spine. You are never safe. There are no old carebears, the burn out and go to WoW...just peace loving 'roid huggers that want to shove flowers in your launchers instead of missiles.
21. EvE is big...I can hide. There is no easy way to find people. There are ways. But none overly easy. (I dont even know them yet.)
I have more...but I want to hear some others...add your own.

I think we need more of these threads to deflect the anti-pvp crowd.
BTW, I declare it no longer fashionable to call them carebears. Carebears will at least try before resorting to forum protesting. Wether or not it sticks, that will be for the community to decide. I was thinking anti-pvp or non-pvp because 'spineless twit who cowers under rock when another human has the potential to interact' is too long to type each time.
If you want to talk about 'griefing' back in the mud days, my pk ability was so lethal that I would log my char into a safe room while I went to work so opposing clans wouldn't be able to collect loot for fear of getting ganked. I miss those days. Eve brings them back in a better form. It has cool graphics.
Also, I like Eve for its aspect of being a business simulator. The economy is very cool as it mirrors some of the real life scenarios. Would provide a good thesis for someone doing an MBA....
Forums. I really like it when CCP staff come on to remind the community that it is a PvP game....
Vision. CCP looks to be in it for the longhaul. I would really like my son to be able to play once he reaches his teen years and beyond.
Lots of other stuff.

Things i like about eve.
The comradeship within corporations. The versatile way in which said corporations can pull together to achieve many different goals. The sheer amount of things you can do in game. The feeling you get when you have just relieved someone of there 100mil+ ship The feeling you get when someone has just relieved you of your 100mil+ ship The fact that a new player of 8 weeks can relieve a "1 1/2" year old character of his excitedly purchased T2 missile BPC.
This to name just a few.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 08/12/2006 14:39:02 1) Diversity / sandbox style 2) playing with mates 3) Full-competition mode in several areas, if we like, without the need to ask the other person, if he likes. By playing EVE he already agrees.
Point 3 has several implications, like player created stories, player politics etc... a lot of drama.
CTD/con-loss vs. log-out. A proposal for a fix. |
