Edited by: dalman on 09/12/2006 02:19:40 I certainly care about my reputation and always try to act with honour. In more 'normal' circumstances, I'd prolly had said yes to wait longer for Burn Eden's pilot. This however, was not normal. Let's take a look at our situation: We're drawn into what's clearly the hardest group in the tournament.
3-4 days before the tournament is to start, our captain (trev) is called in to EVE-TV, and I'm drifted into the team as replacement. Trev was the one who had done all the preparations. I hadn't thought about the tourney 1 second before. One member of our team also pulled out, which we were not allowed to replace. So we're one member short.
Time for first match, vs IAC. A match that's gonna be very deciding. Parts of our team is US (quite naturally as Trev is US as well). One of them couldn't possibly make it to this match. Down to 5 members. We have our tactics lined up. Then one of our euros get a bit of a mess at work. He can't make it, and we didn't have phone numbers. So, 15 minutes before transport to the match we realize that we'll be one man short. That was our battleship pilot, supposed to fly a faction BS. So, we have to buy a BS + fitting of the market and put one pilot who was gonna fly a smaller ship into that, change some some more around, and create some kind of lineup that possibly could have any chance. It didn't go too well, and we lost badly. Not saying we would have won vs IAC with a full team. But it would have been a real fight and could have gone any way. And for 100% sure we would have killed at least their 3 smaller ships if we had lost.
Right, we've lost to IAC. Time to support IAC and hope they beat Burn Eden. And they did \o/. Or, wait, they did not. They got disqualified. Now we're in big big trouble. We've lost badly vs IAC, who then lost 28-0 vs burn eden.
Time to hope MC beat IAC then. Then we'd have a fair chance of progress. But nope. MC get their tactics spot on, but fail on execution.
At this point, we need a big win vs burn eden. We got it. IAC smashed us cause RL prevented us. BE smashed IAC cause of the can dropping. We smashed BE cause RL prevented them.
I seriously don't see how that's unfair, at all. All I see is 3 possibly kick-ass matches that all got turned into ****.
Now it's all down to how these 3 teams do in the matches vs MC and Xelas to decide which 2 go through (though technicly, if MC kick our asses and Xelas beat burn eden badly, MC can still go through). IAC has done well and are already through. We brought a very defensive setup vs Xelas, because we felt we needed a 28-0 win considering how the group was. Unfortunately they did the same, and we didn't manage to kill all their ships. And therefor we're the ones in the worst situation (as explained by Shin Ra).
Had our match vs IAC been a 'real match', and IAC vs Burn Eden been a 'real match' - then I'd said yes to wait for Burn Eden's pilot. Cause I'm confident we would have won anyway. But in this situation... IAC had gotten their (almost)flawless win on a silver plate. Burn Eden had gotten their flawless win on a silver plate. Now we got our flawless win presented on a silver plate.
We're not here for your entertainment. We're here to win. Are you seriously suggesting that this wasn't more than fair considering the situation?
