I remember a couple months ago there being an log off button so you could easily switching between characters. Why did they get rid of it? I find it annoying have to completely quit the game to get on my other character ! |

I think the removal had something to do with changes to the launcher, and needing a new login session per character. Basically it was tech related, rather than UX related.

Your memory is faulty.
The "Log Off button" never did what it was supposed to.
The only way to switch characters was to completely log out of the game. It has always been this way since the beginning of EVE.
Why? Because of some deeply ingrained legacy code that (and I am paraphrasing here); require a team of DEVs to spend 6 months to revise the code that would ultimately save players about a minute or so.

I've been here since 06 and I'm also fairly sure there used to be a "change characters" button.

This makes me look like a liar, but in the meantime, it does show a logoff button. |

I've been here since 04, there has never been a 'switch character' or 'log off' button like you think. Logoff and quit did pretty much the same thing. Dump you to desktop. If anything logoff dumped you to the initial log in screen. All you need to do now is close the client and hit logon again with the launcher. i do it all the time

That is how i recall it.It logged you out of the game but into the character screen wich did save you some time. Now you need to load the launcher , then load the character screen and then you can log in to the game. Not that it matters much in time and effort.

I think CCP should just do a compromise - have a button in the client that closes the client and has the launcher open a new one, authenticated for that same account.
It won't be much faster but people will think that it is. |

It won't be much faster but people will think that it is. It will require one less click though. Rejoice!

FWIW, Clicking the launch button on the launcher will log off the current client linked to that account and reopen the client at the character selection window. That "saves a click"

The log off button did used to do what it was supposed to do, it would take you back to the character selection screen for the account that client was running.
Now if you want to switch characters but have already changed character on a different account, you have to log back in again which is fcking annoying. Hitting play doesn't work when it's launching the wrong account. |

Not any time recently.
The log off button always closed the client, then reopened it on the login screen. (That's going from when I started. I'm pretty sure it was like that before, but I don't have personal experience of it.)

no i think you misunderstood. it never took you to the char select screen. only to the 'hit log in screen' as opposed to the desk top.

Either way, you need to be seriously ADHD if that's not fast enough for you.
Mr Epeen
There are 86,400 seconds in a day. You just saved one of them by typing 'u' instead of 'you'.-á Congratulations, dumbass!

I'm not sure if you are splitting hairs for the sake of it or if you didn't understand how this saves a click when trying to get a different toon logged in. Yes, you have to click to close the window but this is after the fact. If time is of the essence it does save a tick or two. OP stated you have to quit the client to log in another toon, this is not true.
