I've had a few people in game tell me they do, but I submitted a petition on the 7th and everyones telling me it takes 'a while' to get it sorted out.. but 3+ days? I've not had a response to it.. so wondering if they'll just ignore it. It was when the server went lag crazy mid-warp through a mission deadspace gate, my ship refused to respond to commands for about 90 seconds.. then exploded O_o 1.2 bil down the drain, whee. So hopefully they do help out with that stuff.. considering if it says in the logs i never shot back or even targetted or moved or anything... hopefully they can check that.

They usually reimburse lag-deaths - give it some more time.

I once went 5 weeks without hearing from them, it can get pretty hectic around patch deplowments.

i had a lag death on saturday night (gmt) myself around midnight - 1am, myself and my corp mate both got the lag and hes based in a different country - from what my other corp mates tell me it can take upwards of a week to get a response as its considered low priority (next to griefing / using exploits etc)
hope that helps

It depends on the cause of the lag.
If the servers are running at max cpu and lagging, this is somthing a GM can verify and will reimburse you for it.
If however the lag is generated via a connection issue at some point between your pc and the cluster then you're probably out of luck. This is mainly to stop everyone shouting LAG when they die to try and get their ships back plus it's not CCPs fault you're suffering lag in this case.

that's my problem with that. Attempting to "algorithmize" everything creates stupid bureaucratic decisions
the GM should have a little "freedom" in those decisions. not only "log show lag, refund". in some cases people have been dropping shuttles with BMs to create lag, which the GM can probably verify in some log. in some cases the lag is caused by whatever but you can really see the guy came in and stopped moving and doing anything till death
dunno, maybe im just utopist. but id get rid of all refunds if a little "human factor" isnt taken into account in the GM decision ------

Edited by: Wild Rho on 11/12/2006 08:43:44 That's asking for trouble. If the GMs were given the freedom to make a judgement call regardless of what the server said it wouldn't be long before people cried foul about GMs playing favourites etc.
The criteria used to determine if a player suffered from a lag related problem HAS to be strictly stuck to, anything else just causes more problems than it helps.

You'll be lucky to get that back, unless there was a server crash or an issue it won't log whether there was lag between you and the server. I even had screenshots of me approaching a gate after i'd warped, but still taking damage from the npc's, all I got was "tough luck, nothing in the server records, so you must be lieing"*
*(may not of been the exact words).

i lost a ship to lag once....i petitioned it, and they said they don't reimburse for lag...
it was only a destroyer, so i wasn't really mad about it, it just kinda sucked, lol
i've had friends get stuck on rocks, lag out, all resulting in lost ships, and they didn't get squat either...it's kind of a crummy situation, but whatever, me and my friends are easy going enough not to flip out over stuff like that...

Edited by: Spy4Hire on 11/12/2006 10:29:46 99% of the time: No. Unless you're in good with a GM or something.
I can't count the number of ships I've lost due to lag drops, freezes, and CTDs.
Earlier tonight the system I was in (3 of us there) froze solid for almost 2 minutes. By the time things started moving again my HAC was half way through hull. Luckily I was able to get my rep going long enough to warp out... with 13% hull.
Everyone in the system experienced the same lag/freeze, we thought the node was going to drop out on us... One was Eurpean, the other on the West coast, I'm in the US midwest, so it's unlikely that the hiccup was
You can bet that after a 2 month wait on my petition I would have gotten the same response I always get: Our logs show no problems there at that time. Either that or 'petition closed due to no user response' (after having never recieved a GM response to begin with.)
Heck, I've even lost a BS after arriving at a planet when I warped out of a fight... the rats continued to pound the trash out of me while I came out of warp and aligned for a station. I checked the log afterward and saw no notification of being scrambled. What I did see, however, was 'X strikes you with Y for XYZ damage', 'Notice: Arriving at Planet G', 'X strikes you....', 'Notice: Warp', 'X strikes you...', BOOM. 7 weeks later: 'Our logs showed no problems, reimbursment denied'

What about jumpqueues? The implementation of those is pure asshattery.
Now recruiting!

I was in 0.0 a few months back sitting outside a station and saw one of my alliance-mates insta to the station and dock. Almost a minute later he is on local cursing up a storm because his ship got blown up... ... after he had docked.
His reimbursment petition took a week to be denied.
In a similar circumstance while we were camping a gate a BS jumped into us, decloaked, got blown up. His pod just sat there and it, too, got popped. Running across the guy a couple months later I learned that his BS was reimbursed because he lagged out on the jump-in. |

Yesssssss, isn't it tho. Sitting on the Kisogo gate to Jita as #27 for the que I was forced to laugh... One heavily tanked smartbomb BS would have raped a good 10 qued haulers for god knows what their cargo was. Not to mention the various frigs & cruisers that would've gone down as well. I think the only survivors would have been the lone freighter and BS also stuck in que.

The final decision is up to the GM working on the petition and they're normally pretty nice guys and girls as long as you're polite too. There is a blog about GM and their job somewhere.
Petitioning more than once for the same event seems to lower your chance for success a bit.
In most other online games you do not even have the chance to get anything back. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Yes, I have found they do I lost a ferox to Lag during a mission, pettitioned it, waited around a week maybe more (cant quite remember). I got myself a brand new one delivered, it even had that new Ferox smell that I love so much, also all destroyed modules were fitted in their correct positions (correct positioning of modules is importaint to me).
I think a polite pettition written in sentances is a plus point as is providing enough info to minimise the work the gm will have to do (they are human, lazyness is genetically coded into us), also dont demand, ask. Then cross fingers, sit back and wait.
One note though, dont spend the insurance money! it gets taken back if you are reimbursed, -ve wallet is not fun.
Warning, sig starts here,

I right clicked to a war cruiser, once it was locked it suddenly became a neutral cruiser and I got concordokkened for it. But few days ago I received my mega back.
So yes you get refunded for lagg deaths.

Maybe you play at off-times. Being American I usually end up playing with 20K+ players online and I often get extreme lag (more often then not in busy systems, and the occational mission.) Sometimes I will hang on jump in in non-busy systems, etc.

Every time I have tried to get reinbursement for a lag-related death (twice, after that I stopped trying), the GM's deducted that there was no lag. This makes me even more angry that they can bluntly lie to my face. I would understand if I was the only one who got lag, but when my whole gang gets lag, thats just wrong.
Ive been told that certain game logs are deleted after each downtime, which means unless the GM's get to your petition before the dt, they have no information to base their decision on.
It continually angers me that CCP will allow this much lag and blame it on the user end.

Losing a ship to lag at peak times probably helps your case, as the strain on the server is greatest then. I recently lost a ship to lag on a sunday evening, when the servers were groaning anyways XD
