I have to admit that attacking miners is really fun, and I have been killing quite a few mining barges and haulers lately.
Of course, if the client does not pay the ransom, he is getting ganked.
A few of those ganks have been really disappointing for me, unfortunately. For example, I have killed an Iteron V, and only two
Cargo Expander IIs out of total five have survived. Likewise, three out of four strip miners from a killed Covetor got destroyed
in the process of ganking. Sad.
These kills were not done with a high-DPS setup. I have used an Incursus with 3 Light Ion Blaster Is and a Hobgoblin I to kill the
Iteron V and the barge.
A question to the community: is there any particular technique for ganking ships that maximizes the loot survival rate?
Has anyone done any experiments to find out how to do this?
Is the survival of modules random lottery?
Can anyone recommend any particular setups for... err... loot harvesting?

It's random. Each module get a 50% chance of blowing up as do each stack of objects in the cargo hold. So nothing you can do to improve your "yield" .

had a kill mail in corp once of a hauler that we killed, dropped over 50 items including T2 bp's. and there was no loot to get

Its random.
AFAIK stcked items count as one single itme when the ships pop.
Dont feel bad about loosing the strip miners: Wost we ever saw was an officer fitted carrier losing all its best fittings when it died(still dropped a couple hundred mill in other loot though)

I think so.
Can't check the killmail now, but there were 3 of them destroyed, which made me quite sad.
Strip miners for meeeee! NOT.
