taking advantage of the super 8 turrets hardpoint (taken from http://essdb.milair.net/essdb.php dunno if those stats are accurate, cant login to check)
id put a 8x 650 t2 on top ecm, scram, web, mwd, cap recharge x2 eanm, DC, armor repair, gyro x2
a setup that might get tired quite fast with the huge cap need of an armor repair, but could be made up by the rechargers
or switch a recharge by a cap battery
it's an armor tanked one, so im losing most advantage of the shield boost (which i got no skills for) ------

better to fit a cap booster intead of rechargers for pvp... and your tank/ecm will be too weak for any decent solo pvp
also for this kind of setup a pest will perform better... better dps, or similar with noses, 1 more low slot for tankage... faster and more agile...
a phoon will be probably even more effective

problem is that the ship is alredy quite crap... so if you don't even use one of its bonuses you will end up with a veeeery poor setup and spending twice or more than for a pest or a phoon
also to make the crapstrom remotely work you need to be in a gang with tacklers so you can fit a huge shield or an ew boat... (even if personally in such situations i prefer a phoon anyday)

Ath Amon hates this ship with a passion for some reason, even though its a really good gang ship. Yes, it sucks solo like ALL shield tankers, but it rocks in a group. Better tanking than a Raven and higher dps as well with the heavy drones. --- Eve Wiki | Eve Tribune | Eve Pirate |

don't fly one and haven't checked fittings but personally i'd use something like:
8 650's
mwd, scrambler, web, XL SB, invuln, + cap injector OR second invuln
4 gyro's 1 power diag
Just a rough idea, adapt as neccesary.

mmm don't know if i really hate it...
is just that it was supposed to be an arty platform and we all know it doesn't work that way... and note that minnies now have not anymore any decent fleet ship
then i tought... mmmm this shield recharge time is not bad... maybe it can work in passive mode with hails... had some fun fitting a huge passive tank (passive tanked a large pos in 2 lol :P) and then it got rebalanced
so i lost all the hope for this ship...
also i said that in gang it can have some use... but for my taste at that point i'll grab a phoon with ew and tank

Just know that the Maelstrom will eat you up quickly if you get webbed and it gets close. 1000 dps with Hail, and also better tank than the phoon has. But it cant do that alone, it needs to be in a gang with tacklers just like the Raven. The Mega is still better for solo work up close.

actually a phoon can tank 1k dps with full tank and it can still deal around 800dps with 8 weapons or around 600 with 4 nos
it have also 3 free midslots as 1 will go for cap...
(this is the most defensive setup, of course adding damage mods dps can go up)
in gank imo ew is generally better than tankage... tank is benefical to the group only if you are the target while ew is always usefull and can protect both yourself and your comrades

Personally the Pest is better for Solo this is more a gang ship, but if one must.
Highs, 6x 650 AC 2x Heavy Nos
Meds, 1x XL SB 1x Web 1x Scram 2x Invun 1x Cap Booster
Lows
4x Gyro 1x PDU or DCU
Also if your carrying a Web you might want to try swapping the 650's for 800's if they will fit, I tried this on the test server and as long as your target is webbed you can hit them.

U can go with dual 650 and sieges then just fit lows with eans and plates works good enough. as for ur arty fit i still would prefer tempest with:
6x 1400mm, large remote rep, med neut mwd,2x sb, 2x tc 3x gyro, 2x plate, rcu t2 (maybe large rep offline cant remember now)

Edited by: Felix Dzerzhinsky on 11/12/2006 12:16:33 a full rack of 1200s on the top a nice shield amp and an XL SB in the mids with some cap and sensor boosting toys (unless you actually want to tank it in which case put in those photon scattering, invul, heat dispensation SHs :x) 3 gyros and PDU, sensor amps and some more cap toys in the bottom.
Nothing spacific, but thats the general direction I would go. Issues would be Cap stabalization with XL SB (if you can do the Gist-X thing, this IS the ship for it, and if you have a Pith-X sitting around - this IS for sure the ship for it. . .840 omggomg~!!) and creating enough sensor strength to actually lock anything fast enough. Cover these two things and you should be fine.

I personally would make this ship a full dmg autocannon bs. Have not used one yet, but i personally would use 8x 800mm t2 auto's - i dont care what the so called matari 'veterans' say 800's are amazing.
With 3x gyro's and hard tank in mids *get someone to tackle for you, but fit a web* its just brutal. -------------------------------------------------------- Forever Pirate 2

can't check but i think you can fit at least 425mm + siege and dual rep, probably even 650mm
also as we are speaking about gank the phoon doesn't really need a mwd as its have less range problems than a mael or a pest... and that is a lot of space saved
the dps difference between 425mm and 800mm is not that big, probably on a phoon is around 40 dps and half of that with 650mm

This set up is tried and tested. Its only for gang pvp so you will need tacklers, but this ship performs very very well with this set up:
x8 650mm or 800mm AC x1 mwd x1 hvy cap booster x2 invu fields x1 em ward x1 XL SB x1 DCU x3 Inertial stabs x1 Gyro
If u have isk for rigs then use these: EM ward rig mass reduction rig cap recharge/drone damage.
The only thing that stops this ship from being an AC boat is the mass, and w the inertial stabs it performs very well in this task. Its bonuses scream AC boat and the sleek design does to. As ive said make sure you have tacklers; most shield tankers tend to be gang specific anyway.

yup gang only...
shield tankers are considered gang pvp only because to solo you need to use 2-3 more slots so actually there is not much space left to fit a tank
also the shield oriented ships are quite slow and cumbersome so they have also some troubles to catch an enemy or dictate range.

Me personally i like the heavy damage, so i go:
Highs- 8-1400 Howy II Meds- 1-Large Shield Booster II, 100mn MWD, 3-Tracking Comp II, 1-Large Cap Booster Lows- 2-RCU II, 3-Gryo II
The fitting worked on the test server with my skills, you take advantage to both bonus and have more damage than a Tempy.

Three observations before I get to the setup - (a) This is NOT a PVP setup (b) This is an expensive investment and not for someone who isn't prepared to invest in a ship you'll be flying for a while (c) My personal philosophy is that having to rely on a Large Cap Booster with 800's to run the XL for as long as possible is a BAD(tm) idea. This (a) means you're reliant on continually purchasing/producing or procuring more boosters for the next mission and (b) takes up a slot which could be dedicated to Tanking/Mwd/Painter whatever and further reduces your available cargo capacity.
For my PvE ships I want to be able to run the tank as close to indefinitely as you can. With a modest skill set, this tank runs forever and is runs everything with cap stabile at 68-69%.
If I set for Angels (to follow the original posters topic) this gets 94/89 for exp/kin and reps 497 every 3.2 seconds .. FOREVER in a mission.
Having said that, the keystone is an expensive faction booster but when you're talking about being able to indefinitely tank entire rooms in AE, WC <insert favourite hellish mission here> it seems a worthwhile investment
High 2x Arbie Cruise 6x 800mm Scout (would be T2 if I had em or swap for 6 x 1200mm Scout Artillery)
Medium Gist-X Large Shield Booster Shield Boost Amplifier T1 (T2 in 6 days yeah!) 3x specific T2 hardener 1x Invuln-II (or swap for passive/MWD/Painter/Cap recharger II/Sensor boost .. whatever)
Low Internal Force Field Array I 4x PDS-II
Rigs 2x Cap Recharge I 1x Damage Rig (should have been a ROF rig but I fitted the wrong one)
And yes, I know a purist will note that I have missiles there - I do run this with 8xautocannon or 8xartillery as well - this is just current fit

was playing with something similar the other day, until it got popped in a fairly large engagement lol but i had 1 tracking and 2 falloff rigs, as they stack, didnt hink 3 fall off be worth it, and 15% tracking made more sense to me then a slight incrase in fall off edit: too early for typing

Fallof rigs are NOT stack nerfed. I had several ships with 3 of them.. no nerf.
Maelstrom I would use 8x800m all out ttank in middle with 1 booster cap injector. 3 Gyro in lows 1DC2 1 tracking enhancer.
DO NOT FLY ALONE!! this is the main battle tank of a gang. Others wil scramble and web. In fact i find stupid to use web or scramb in most BS since that is job for frigates.
If there is one module you want to be faction or better.. is the shield booster.... put as much as you can on this module.. since is the core of the setup Shield enhancing and 1 proj ambit rig)
On any normal engagement ( like 4x4 scale) you may be sure that no way something will kill you before you run out of cap charges, while you sttill do pretty good damage.
Just wait your tacklers engage something.. then you jump to 0 km of them and kill whatever it is....
If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

This reps 998.4 hp every 4.3 seconds and deals out a ****load of damage. Drawback is the locking time of course with no sensor booster.
