I just noticed that my tracking went down when I switched to barrage so I checked the stats and sure enough, a penalty to tracking. A bit odd for an ammo with this description: An advanced version of the standard Nuclear ammo with a Morphite-enriched warhead and a smart tracking system.

I assume this is either a bug or CCP doesn't actually want people to use t2 ammo?

Well it definitely used to be extra tracking and I don't see why they would intentionally nerf that since no one ever complained about it and it was working fine.

Yes, read the patch notes. Barrage was given a minus to tracking with the patch, it is now useless.

Maybe because the manufacturers actually managed to sell about 50% of the produced ammo in Minmatar space? --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

The problem with Barrage is how well it can track at long ranges (like optimal +0.8 falloff).
People are able to create the situation where they can track you and you can't track them, no matter what ammo you use. Blasters can almost track as good as autocannons (vulcan's 0.147 and hvy ions 0.138) but at autocannons optimal +0.8 falloff, it's blasters optimal + 1.6 falloff... and so blasters are out of range and their damage disapears (even though they were tracking worse than the vaga to begin with). Lasers aren't even in the game because although this range is close to their optimal, their tracking isn't even close (focused med pulse is 0.068).
So you end up with one setup beats all (well missiles still work). That's why everyone loves the vagabond these days. It's too fast/agil for it to be webbed, no other hac can track it, the only defence options are EWAR, missiles, or for a battleship, heavy nos, MWD, web.... but even then, when he sees the nos, he can run.

What ammo you use is now entirely about which role you are filling. You want better tracking at close range (to hit ships smaller than yours), use Phased Plasma, you want midrange targets, use Barrage, you want to get right up close on med to large targets, use Hail.

Edited by: Ammon Ishar on 12/12/2006 19:05:59 Hail gives now -50% faloff... so around 5-6 km max range (medium AC) and realy bad tracking (0.07 or so) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Might As well Train Another Race |
