As a two year Player in EvE and a regular user of the EvE-o fourms I have been subjected to months of Complainers about Jita - To be honest, it doesnt affect me very often as Im usually in 0.0 and such However, I have come to the conclusion that Either CCP is ignorant the problem that is Jita, or they simply dont care about thier customer base.
Firstly, Over the past 6 months, there has been hundreds of posts complaining about Lag in Jita, and granted CCP takes steps to remedy this problem upgrading Hardware and such, but think about it logically, that is always a temp. solution, better HW means more players can log in and then guess what back to the problem to many people in the system.
Secondly, the problem could be easily fixed - practically overnight with hundreds of posts explaining how some of them are excellent ideas that CCP could easily work into the story line, yet for some reason they still do nothing - DOnt get me wrong, I understand they have been busy with Revelations and such - but honestly, what a perfect time to transform Jita to something else during the large deployment a week or so ago.
Lastly, everyone fears if you take Jita away another system will replace it... So you take all the possible Jita's away in one fell swoop.. TBH every region of space should have its own HUB not just one for all of EVE.
CCP - Take Notice, we are your paying subscribers, and a majority of us feel that Jita is fubared. Fix it, do your jobs and rememdy the situation once and for all... Personally I dont care how, but HW upgrades dont do it so think outside the box.
Personall my fav. is making Jita an 0.0 system, the storyline could go something like. with so many people there concord couldnt keep control blah blah blah and evacuated.. now its 0.0.
Basically I feel that CCP is just ignoring a problem that re-occurs every few days in Jita and its TIME ITS TIME NOW!!! FIX IT!.

In addition, gratz on Coccurent User Levels, but what is that worth if some systems are unplayable? Fix the game on a whole before u start bragging that 30k + people play.
Oveur, other Devs... Tommorow for instance would be a a great time to change Jita to 0.0 dont even tell anyone.. Just do it who cares, so some people will get pwned. Also get rid of a bunch of stations, move agent missions further out ect. ect.
DO SOMETHING! STOP BEING LAZY! and dont say your not lazy cause u just did revelations, i'd rather see a lag free game everywhere including Jita before Revelations.

There use to be regional hubs. All the regional hubs were connect by the superhighway. The superhighway was removed to improve performance. Now we have Jita.

I know taht, so put back the regional hubs, minus the highways.. would that be hard god. and make Jita 0.0 for a few months to push everyone out and into thier respective hubs. Amarr go to ur silly Amarr Hubs, Gallentes go to ur sexy parties in Gall space, Matars go play in the mud on ur rocks, and Caldari will keep one of its glorious systems as its own hub.

If it wasn't Jita, it would just be some other system that you would be complaining about. It's just the way economy works. If you don't like it, move to Amarr and pay more for your market items. Not True... Thats the thing! There DOESNT HAVE TO BE A hub!! There are ways to remove this rediculous hub thing all together.. Or have smaller hubs at least - I mean im fine with a hub that has less than 300 people... but Jita is consistantly over 500, i think it was nearly 800!! tonight when all the crap started.

Firstly, this is rantish # 1 for me.. and secondly, I dont give a frak about other games, this is CCP they should hold themselves to a higher standard.. its been months and Jita really hasnt improved... thats to long. Who are you to tell me where in EVE I cannot go? Also, there's no need for such language on a forum where minors and other impressionable beings frequent.
If Jita is removed some other system will become market of choice, perhaps a solution would be a system in every region that has super-low tax, but no agents to run missions.. but until then, Jita will lag like hell and we'll all put up with it. -- *snip* Discussing moderation/ linking to flamebait is a no-no. If you don't like Jita, don't go there. Simple. There are lots of other regional hubs in EVE, just people tend to goto Jita because when you think "markets" you think "Jita".
It is entirely a construction of the playerbase, and those who complain about it could easily avoid it.

Why cant you ppl use your brain's and think about it and not post threads like this day after day about jita.
This is what I do.
Step 1 - fly to a system next door to jita Step 2 - open market and buy all items from jita in same station. Step 3 - Create courier mission from jita to same station as me and pay 2m reward to courier. Step 4 - wait for items to be delivered.
Voila.

Popularity tax. A mechanism whereby common player activities are taxed locally based on the regularity of events. E.g. Jita should have higher trade/contract brokerage fees than, say, litiura.
This would encourage traders to migrate to neighboring systems without ******* them off completely.
Economic pressure ftw.

One thing is, it takes time to implement whatever fix. If it's adding more hardware, they have to order it, test it, schedule a downtime to install it... If it's software, they have to test it, schedule a downtime to install it, etc. Whatever the solution is, it'll involve some changes to gameplay, probably, to get people out of hubs, and that takes time and meetings to agree on and implement.
I'm sure they'll fix it. Every MMO has problems when too many people enter one zone, the concept of spreading players around the zones is as old as the MMO genre.
Now, if it were me, I'd introduce market taxes based on how crowded the system is, and apply them to the seller. The buyer has no choice but to go where the goods are (cheapest), so slap the sellers and they'll spread out. That's my theory; it may be wrong and you might not agree, shrug. I'll wait to see what they do.

people will always want a hub system
look at the bigger picture, you could remove Jita from the game entirely and people would just go to Ours and lag that system out instead
only way to permanently get rid of this issue is to have a system where there was some sort of penalty to more popular systems. Sales Tax, Agent Quality, Docking Fees, etc could all be made to automatically change depending on a systems popularity. it would go a long way in spreading people out ----------- Turbulance |

Jita is a problem admitedly and so are some other high sec places that have everything in one system i think the easiest solution would be to have some form off traffic lights like it is in real life to control the traffic or like the gate queing system have a limit on the amount of pilots in jita so say like 300 and when thats reached and a player leaves, no1 in the queing system has a minute slot to jump through if failed he goes to the back of the que or something like that iono but something has to be done

Jita, and other systems, have high traffic due to the large number of sellers.
Easy fix, change the tax rate for selling and buying items on the market and contracts by 30%. And drop it by 10% for every one jump out, till you get to normal at 3 jumps.
Now, this will not 'fix' the problem. BUT it give the DEV's a great tool to control traffic by raising or lowering the tax rate.
People will shop where it is cheaper, so make it a little more pricey, and they will move.

no need for drastic actions - a handful of "minor" tools are at hand:
snip sobaseki<>jita and replace it with sobaseki<>perimeter (or urlen) snip muvolailen<>jita and replaace it with kisogo<>muvolailen for example
-> i estimate a 5% lesser strain from transit to lonetrek and the passage to the citadel
not much, i know... but it's a start, travellers are happy. and if people still want to idle in _the_ jita, it might aswell be a little offroute

The problem of it being such a superhub is pretty easy to fix.
Dynamically increase the refining tax the more often a particular station is used (that'll get people out of the 4-4 station). Not by a huge amount, but a lot of tiny daily rates. Dynamically reduce agent quality the more people use an agent, let the quality go back up as people use it less. Raise market taxes in a similar way.
So people can do everything they used to in any system, it'll just eventually cost more than in neighbouring systems, so people will move all by themselves.

The only solution to the Jita problem is to remove Jita from the game. It has been the major trade hub for far too long, and for as long as Jita exists people will head there to trade no matter what you do to stop it.
I would nuke simply Jita and the surrounding systems. Have some spatial anomaly send the stars in the systems nova heavily damaging the stations. The damaged stations would lose all station services and only allow hanger/clone bay access. Concord would announce that the stations are irreparably damaged and only have four months of life support remaining before becoming unusable, and all citizens are to commence an immediate evacuation of the area. After 4 months to stations would become undockable, system security would drop to 0.4, and the area would become a tourist attraction for new pilots like the Eve Gate is today.

Sounds like a plan tbh

There is a problem and it goes like this:
I search for the best price for item (a) I search for the best price for item (b) I search for the best price for item (c)
.... I can't be bothered to go to every region to find the best price, it would take all night.
I know (1) (a), (b) and (c) will be at Jita, I know (2) that more than likely with the cut-throat competition the price will be cheapest in Jita.
So we need an Eve-Wide market (similar to escrow), so I can quickly source and purchase an item anywhere. Regionalisation by stealthing other regions leads to the creation of an Eve-wide hub. No amount of twiddling about with jump-gates, security levels, agent locations etc. with make a damned bit of difference.

Not sure if this'll work but i honestly believe its a bit more realistic...
Gradually lower concord protection as more and more people enter the system. To the point where a pirate could get away with blasting a ship. Presumably due to Concord being way too busy dealing with the traffic to deal with a random ship being blasted.
You could even apply this throughout the whole of empire space. Would mean constantly fluctuating trade lanes, and those whining pirates complaining about warp to 0 might enjoy the new hunting grounds.

Eve wide hub.. sounds good to me. But, there should be a delivery time, if you get access to the entire universe (except 0.0). Because someone (perhaps a player?) has to move the stuff you bought.
Other than that, the only permanent solution, is a mind-set change in the entire playerbase. Starting with you

Dear Grant Smith in response to your reply:
"Yeah, I mean wtf at so many carebears? Get your lazy asses to 0.0 and have some fun ffs. :/ Playing Eve isnt about wealth or making money, it's about having fun, and I dont think anyone can tell me they have fun missioning or mining, trading or w/e, highsec sucks, get yourselves out of there. Daaayum."
For you the game might not be about mining, trading, missioning etc etc, but guess what? Now grab a chair and sit: Comfy? ok this might be shocking>>>some or alot of the tens of thousand of players do like that aspect of the game...now before i continue i will give you a few weeks to grasp that concept :P

I always find it amusing that the people who suggest turning a popular system 0.0 for a day 'without telling anyone' probably have gankships at the ready.
Sorry, by 'at the ready' I mean 'stuck in the hanger from lag'.

Put extra tax on goods that is not native to the region to promote more regional trade hubs, rather than one giant global one. Would promote the trader profession too.

Removing hubs doesnt do a god damned thing. It didn't work with Yulai and it wont work now. (for RP's sake, Yulai should STILL be the main hub, its Yulai ffs)
I live in 0.0, and hunt in 0.0 but i will still go to the most populated system to sell my faction gear because it'll sell quicker, end of story.
Jita doesnt need any missioners and it'll still be a trade hub.
What jita needs is a system that bypass's it so people don't have to travel through it who arn't going there.
Here an idea. There are 5709574054327509834 stations. Why not make 1 station sell 1 type of merchandise. One for weapons, one for armor stuff, one for shield stuff, one for comodities, one for implants etc etc. Yes some will be busyer, but it'll spread it out over 10ish stations.

I go to Jita because I know I can find most things there. Allow me to shop in Jita from a system a few jumps away and get my stuff delivered (for no fee I might add)and I won't have to go there any more.

The solution is easy.
Going AFK should disconnect you from Eve after 10 minutes.
10 minutes give you time to pinch even a well-above-normal sized loaf and not get disconnected. If you're running mining lasers, you'd also be exempt. Cloakers, you would not be exempt, so that would also solve the "look, I'm sitting AFK in enemy space in arazu for 9 hours while I'm at work. Have fun NPCing!" problem.
Jita population would drop substantially, I'm sure.
If that's not enough, they could look at other options, but I think this is a reasonable first step.

FIX IT!.
The power to make new trade hubs is in your hands, not CCP's. Open lucrative markets in other regions. Form alliances/corps and sell at competative rates to Jita in other regions. That will cause change. It's not CCP's fault people are stupid and fly to Jita to buy things other "paying customers" put on sale, in Jita.

Simply limit the total number of players that sell stuff at any one station to, I don't know, 500, 1000 (or start with a number and begin tuning it)? That would break it up really fast.
Everyone logs in one day and all their crap for sale is in their hangars, order posting fees refunded. They go to put it up? Oh SNAP! station's full, all the stores are rented out, guess I gotta move somewhere else...
It's not complicated. Add something like a research slot and charge rent to sell stuff. Do the same for auctions, and escrow. Add skills for each that increase the number of store slots you can have from 1 to 5. that way any one player could only have stuff for sale in at most, 5 stations, yet there'd be plenty of retail space over the whole map.
Just my 2 cents...
IMHO this would spread things out quite nicely. People would cry about it, but then again, Jita would become just another system.
Argument: Then I'd have to fly for hours just to put a ship together.
Refutation: With warp to 0 and a little planning ahead, you could minimize this.
Argument: Then I'd have to move 1 billion m3 of stuff!
Refutation: This would be a problem, which you could overcome with a little help from your corp or some old fashioned elbo w grease. The pain inflicted on every player in the game currently outweighs the issues caused to a few.
Argument: Then the players that got slots in Jita would pwn everyone financially.
Refutation: If done correctly you'd need to fly all over the place to get stuff, This would cause associations of builders that put all the stuff, for say interceptors, into the same system.
Then you'd have battleship, inty, cruiser, etc hubs.
-Kal /*----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ My opinion in no way represents that of my corp or anyone I am associated with, and is probably entirely wrong. |

People aren't stupid, they are quite clever, because they are seeking to minimize (a) the time it takes to find an item and (b) the cost of the item.
You could say CCP are stupid not to take human nature into account when designing their system. However, considering the nature of Eve and it's status as a grand MMO social experiment, I think they can be forgiven for not anticipating this. The solution (being able to see orders globally, not just regionally), might not be technically possible however.

I dont see what the problem is. People go to Jita, Jita is crowded. Why try and keep people out, if Jita is so bad, then dont go there.
Once again the few trying to tell the many how to play, where to go, and what to sell.

What do you expect exactly? If you'd be here long enough you'd know that before we had Jita there was Yulai. Yulai was THE hub and laggy. CCP tried to fix it and changed the mpa. Yulai was dead and there was no more central system where everyone met - for about 1 week.
You can kill Jita as a HUB but then we will have Amarr or TM Prime or some other random system. Peeps will allways try make a hub because it makes shopping for modules so much easier.

I remember seeing this exact thread about Amarr, then Yulai, now it's Jita. It's always going to be something else tbh. Once Jita is dealt with maybe it'll be Rens, or maybe we can go back to Yulai again?
I think Jita is great tbh. It's an insane **** storm but if you're just visiting now and then to buy something off the centralized market it has it's no problem. If you don't want to deal with it on a constant basis then, well, just move somewhere else? Once you have lvl 4 agents you can get agents from the same corp pretty much anywhere, and sure you may have to move a ton of stuff but that's a couple days hard work to be done with the Jita insanity forever.
I don't understand why so many people are waiting for CCP to do something when they can just pack up and leave themselves...

Edited by: Gary Payne on 13/12/2006 16:42:35 ive thought of a cool feature to clear jita of lag and players :D give a warning when it becomes unstable, that the system is about to be attacked by some other faction ships that will target and destroy any ships around the stations for a set duration, and they only way for them to prevent it is to get out before they get there :D. and then add splash damage from concord ships so any ships caught in the crossfire from concord and these faction ships get damaged/killed :D solution solved :D
