Edited by: MysticNZ on 13/12/2006 08:27:57 I normally take a trip to FDZ once and a while to have a 1v1. I've had quite a few actually with no problems, until now.
I'm not crying about this, but if you say you are going to 1v1, then 1v1.

So, they pulled a Force Rcon on my Stabber...
A Stabber... can you not fight a stabber?
Not only did he use a force recon, but all his buddies joined in as well...
No, they didn't get me.
Don't agree to a 1v1 if you are going to pull this sort of stuff, makes you look like an idiot.

some ppl like 1v1¦s and sometimes its fun to arrange one and not to chase the change 3 hours, in those cases 1v1 should allways be honoured.

It never stops to amaze me how many people trust strangers on the 1vs1 thing. You know that people don't honor them and still you do it over and over and over and over again.
Unless you have a VERY VALID reason to believe you can trust the other jsut don't....
Oh and btw REAL MEN don't even bother with 1vs1 =p

When you are a member of a big alliance, when you have other people watching, you'd think you would stick to the 1v1 thing. If this guy wasn't a member of an alliance, I probably wouldn't have posted it here. -=====-

Please remember that we're playing a game where we fly spaceships. I can understand if you're roleplaying and have some notion of "honor" as it were.
But you've taken it outside of the game, into the realm of reality. Your notion of honor or what it means to "be a man" is null and void at this point. I'm not outright saying your opinion on the matter is wrong, hardly the case.
But try to remember that your feelings about this issue really only have ground within a game environment where such a thing as "honor" could possibly exist. Outside? It doesn't matter, because outside the game..it's just that, a game.
You said that pulling "this sort of stuff" makes them look like an idiot. You brought this event into the forums my friend, where anyone with any common sense would not hesitate to label you the idiot.
While I hesitate to call you one, if it walks like a duck..ect.

I will be very honest here.
Why on earth do people ask for 1v1, this is a game designed around team work and achivments people wanting to have solo fights confuse me... Go play Command and Conquire if you want a fair fight.
In this time you can either bring it or die, I will never have a 1v1 because people either won't honor it or will fit for it.
Sit at a gate with a bubble and kill what comes your way, that's how the game is designed. Try again!

hey MysticNZ, I know what you mean and I understand it..
but.. the "real man" remark is a bit too much imo.. Why? you would wonder.. well, in my opinion a real man would be having fun with his gf or a woman instead doing a 1vs1 in a game.
Another thing would be if you called this. "brave pvper" or anything else.. but anyways, yes, its all semantics, we understand you.. and the other guy is a chicken.

It is possible to minimize the risk of a gank in a duel.
Make a gang with the guy...warp to safe spot, then invite him to warp to you.
Fighting at a planet is just a bit silly...especially after anouncing it in local.
Even if the guy wanted to honour it...you may have had a whole bunch of vultures swoop in on the pair of you.
Arranged 1v1 can be fun, especially if you too lazy to hunt I have even had one guy pick my tin up and hand it to me in station. There are some of us that keep our word

Indeed. The girl I play with was last killed in a hauler by 5 D2 with a bubble on the far side of the galaxy from where they have any territorial interests. At all. Ooookay, I guess, but fun? I can't see how. Maybe if the internet had never been invented these guys would be shooting ducks in a pen for giggles?
The game has interdictor bubbles. How they are used reflects on the propensities of the players who use them, not the design of the game. That's what makes Eve so cool. It allows many things, and dictates very few.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 13/12/2006 21:51:04 Agree, 1-on-1 should be honored. Remember when Amist (RA) and some V were duelling in Konora at the station. He wanted 1-on-1's and got them. He was alone and surrounded by like 20 V, who were watching. It was respected and fun, the only difficulty was to tell everyone, who arrived later and didn't know what's going on, not to disturb the duels. But once they knew it, they respected it. Think Amist won a couple of duels in a row in his cruiser and was allowed to collect all the loot, like it has been said before. I think it's the way it should be.
If you don't honor a duel it seems a bit, like you can't get your kills in other ways and need to fall back to such 'tactics'

The game is designed to be open ended and allow a multitude of different playstyles. If CCP wanted you to only be able to kill as a member of a "team" they would not allow the use of warp scramblers and guns/drones on the same ship. While what you describe is certainly one of the many styles possible in EVE, it is most certainly not the only one. Personally, I have enjoyed many 1v1's in my time in EVE, fighting the BOS guys back in the day was quite entertaining.
It is indeed sad that people will agree to a 1v1 and then jump their buddies in order to kill someone with overwhelming force. Fighting should be fun, and killing in a way which requires no skill isn't fun for the people with even a little skill or pride. I'm not sure why this type of thing as well as condoning it has become more popular. Perhaps, it's just the newer generation of players, or maybe it's because the game has become all about the killmails. I do kind of miss the days when the debates were a little more subjective on the forums and it wasn't all about cold hard stats.
Just my thoughts.

Normally this is how it is. I don't mind people watching, there were quite a few watching. This is the reason I held it at a planet because I've come to the system a few times and they normally know what I want to do -=====-
