Has the implementation of the Warp to 0 option helped with the Db load at all? I would like to see if there has been some analysis of it. I haven't noticed a visual improvement on the client side, but I'd be interested on the server side improvement (if any)

I'm with you, Justin. It would be cool if CCP would offer up some numbers, showing us the difference in server load. Maybe a pie chart. :) Still, things have been far from stable, in terms of people on. Player activity might have to settle down before a fair, accurate comparison can be made.

its all scalable with the population so that doesn't matter as much, and we don't know if it has until the dev's tell us...a nice blog would help.

The thing that was causing slowdowns wasn't the creation or deletion of bookmarks, it was the huge database queries that each player was doing every single time they opened their bookmark folders... The Warp to 0km itself didn't fix this, it's the fact they deleted all bookmarks that were 0-25km from a station or a gate that did...
Anyway, that's how I understood it, and being a server admin myself that is what I would believe caused the performance degradation.

right but there should be some sort of performance increase server side...I'd like to see the numbers is all.

Also, every time you would jump into a system, your entire list of BMs was scanned to see if any apply to the system you are in. Not having all the Db calls anymore will probably decrease latency for other calls, like market and escrow/contract, or the lag you got opening POS corp hangers or loot cans/wrecks. -----------------------------------------------

I agree, I'd like to hear a CCP server admin show some statistics as well...
I have no idea how their backbone is setup, but I would assume they have several servers managing only the services (station service, agent service, stargate service, etc...), which talk to the SQL database server. And that all those servers are clustered to share the load (with load balancing). The thing is were the bookmark updates (when a player opened up his bookmarks folders) causing whatever service's queue to go up too high? were they making the CPU of that server go crazy high, or was it on the SQL backend that the problem was?
Of course that info is proprietary to CCP and I really doubt they share any with us, but I'd like to understand how the EVE server infrastructure works...

What that doesn't show you is how badly the place lagged out during that and then subsequently crashed in places

Hmmmm also 47% capacity - what is that, averaged over all servers? The problem with Eve isn't it's total capacity / number of players, it's the system capacity constraints / number of players.
There are lies, damned lies and marketing .
