"Database failover caused cluster to go down. Starting up now."
There's your offical statement on the matter.
It helps you how? The thread was started with a statement that the server was down due to technical reasons.

I understand that all games have their problems, but what irritates me is the number of trial accounts that are allowed on. It seems that the servers can barely handle the number of subscribers CCP has, yet they continue to allow more and more trial accounts. How about limiting them a little more until things are under control. The thought of waiting in a queue to log in, or waiting in jump queue because of "potential" customers really gets on my nerves.

Mate I feel your pain. For me I can only really get in game for an hour after DT during the week. Maybe an hour before if I'm lucky. Every time the server goes down for an hour or so after DT I effectively lose a day.
Try doing skill changes and running a POS network when you can be denied access for a day at random on any given day.
Fact is they will not move DT out of this time zone. They will not do maintenance in other time zones. We will never be reimbursed for lost time or lost ships and POSs due to this. Either accept that we get the ****ty end of the Eve stick or take you money elsewhere, those are your only options.
Exactly the same boat here. DT eats up a good part of my available time in game because of the time zone, and every time they screw up or decide on an extended DT it's effectively a 24 hour DT for me. I imagine it's the same for many on the West side of the Pacific. Spending the dollars elsewhere is looking more attractive all the time

You do know there's a limit on the number of trial account that can log into TQ at any one time, right? Wouldn't want to go looking silly and ignorant ---------- It's great being minmatar, ain't it |

The number of trial accounts are limited, I think it's something like 2,500 trial accounts on at one time, no more. ---

Hmm i agree, the feedback via devblogs is pathetically low... im sure they're very busy though.. clearly to busy to fix drones...
Still, Devblogs every day or 2 wouldnt kill them... all the dev blogs talk about up coming features and how awesome the games gonna be... to bad its **** at the moment...
Also the last dev blog plugging their card game... thats a great help to the community. i know thats what i want for xmas.
Does the card game lag/dc? and does it have bugs? will there be a patch pack?
These questions relate to money.. maybe i'll get an answer.

Post mortem...
At downtime today, I worked on restoring the wallet transaction logs we had to nerf a bit yesterday to get the patch done on time(I know it wasn't on time). This included running 3 giant insert statements, moving ca. 300mil rows from the archive table to the new table. After I started the server a bit after 12:00, I saw we had a problem. I was getting timeouts when I tried connecting to the database server and few minutes later it initiated a failover.
Reading the logs for it shows that ALL its schedulers got deadlocked by what I can only assume is a bug in SQL Server 2005, because nothing we do should possibly deadlock the actual schedulers.
Due to the large transactions I ran shortly before the crash, the recovery phase of the failover took an hour. Thats why it took so long to get the server back up.
Thats all for now. I have to run off to a meeting. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

Extensive hardware and software optimizations for both the server and game client, including performance gains, memory leak fixes and much more.
perfomance like log in lag out count up to 120 waiting activates module wait on server crash
allways nice to see how good and stables this server works fun for each player you should maybe reduce ppl in system to max 4 install in each sys free stations for all so noone have to think about to defend systems or hold sov . is ccp tell us much and i see nothing

Have a nice weekend Valar!
Pilots already been asking where the player donation info in the journal has gone to.
Good luck in finding the problems and getting them fixed ASAP! --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Nope, dont feel silly and/or ignorant. I'm aware that they limit the number of trial accounts. That's why i said "how about limiting them a little MORE" I personally think that trial accounts should be done away with until they can keep their current players online w/o jump queues and constant lag

Good luck.

thats where it went wrong :) every muppet knows you have to split SQL inserts in SMALLER pieces (unsure of how small, depends on server settings, i had em between 20k and 100k). ------------------------ Stop reading my siggy! |

I wish I could say I'm shocked and disgusted, but I'm just disgusted. The server konks out for an hour or two and you all go ballistic, calling CCP bad people, money-grubbing vikingsÖ, generally uncaring individuals. Just... wow. Can CCP ban people for just being whiny, selfish little ingrates? ----------------------------

PostKali - Gameplay lagged and broken First patch - Ok as far as i remember Second patch - 2 1/2 hours late uptime then still slow/buggy Downtime today - currently 1 1/2hours late without full gameplay.
see sig...
Right, so you must enjoy getting walked all over. People shouldn't be talked down for expecting a service that they are paying for. Everyone here who pays for the game has a right to be critical of how poor the quality of service has been lately.
Frankly with the number of players that have been in game the free 14 day trials should be suspended immediately. The games equipment is really starting to show some trouble with this many players and the people who aren't paying should be made to go.
Walked all over? Read the EULA. Performance issues are expected after a patch. You are paying for the game with the understanding that sometimes there will be performance issues after major upgrades. Don't think they're doing a good job? Start your own MMORPG and see if you can do better when 30,000 people are simultaniously logging in AND downloading a patch.
You're not getting walked all over, you, like many other children in the world today, didn't read the fine print.
P.S. The game was virtually unplayable for me last night. But I didn't complain because I understood the EULA and that a patch had been deployed. Also, other than after the three recent patches, I haven't had server issues in months.
