i was playing with my directional scanner in hi sec and spotted a battlecruiser.
I used my directional scanner and see this person is approximatly 1bilion km strait up..
i am carrying fathom probes so i go to probe him out and get nada after several tries.. leading me to beleive this person is cloaked..
so this battlecruiser would need to be 1bill off the plane and cloaked in high sec.. witch seems a bit paranoid to me..
any ideas what i might me doing wrong?

ok, the reason you may not be able to probe him out are many, but i can tell you why he was 'up' there: he was most likely running a mission and his gate/mission area was all the way up there, as missions are usually way off plane.

probes work in a sphere now, if his in a mission thats supposed to be ultra hard to bust since the patch, just scan for drones for some reason they are the easiest thing to pick up and another way of busting deadspaces.

If hes on your scanner hes not cloaked since cloaked objects do not show on a scanner.
If you failed to scan him out with probes this is because probes only have a % chance of success now.
There is a guide to scan probingHere It is really worth a careful read, kudos to Hoshi for this.

Also, Fathom probes have a range of 10 AU. Your scanner has a range of 13.*cough*something*cough* AU. So, he could have been in between 10 and 13. Also, the patch made people in deadspace much harder to scan, so you could have to make multiple scans or use a shorter range probe.

so you think that someone who you found on your scanner is cloaked?
and yeah probes work on a chance basis i think now so if he's on your scanner he aint cloaked so try again maybe.

LoL @ probes now, I've personally given up on them.
It was nice from a Pirate's view when they were made uber easy but we knew it wouldn't last, expecially after all the moaning about it (rightly so) - it baffles me why they didn't just leave it how it was???
